Breaking Up Sucks

default user pic

Who: Alexis and Kyle
Where: School
When: Late afternoon

Jonathan Byrd was not pleased with the idea of leaving his daughter up at school for the night, but an inability to get to the school kind of killed his argument. While Alexis wouldn't have chosen it for herself either, she wasn't bothered near as much, since she had plenty of people around to keep her company. At some point she hoped to track down Lily and Breezy, and maybe they could practice on their new routine, but for the moment she just wanted to watch the snow. She tried to feel it from her side of the window, tried to meditate of it, and while she was doing well for a while, it suddenly stopped. Alexis sighed and pressed her fingers to the cold glass.

Fire and Water

Who: Alexis and Wednesday
When: Lunch
Where: Cafeteria

The lunchroom was crowded today. And loud. Students chattering excitedly about the snow... most of it annoyed chattered, since it looks like they were all stuck together for a night. Which was going to feel like an eternity. Wednesday just hoped she could find an empty room, or something, and not have to sleep around a bunch of strangers. She seemed to be doing okay on her own anyway, since she was sitting alone at a lunch time and idly picking at her food. Her lighter was in one hand, her thumb flicking the flame bright every couple of seconds. After awhile, she got bored with her salad and starting playing with the flame, close to her lap so that people who were merely sitting around couldn't see. She ran the flame up and down her wrist, over her hand and got it to grow a bit after manipulating it. She wondered if she went somewhere and held it high, if the fire alarm would go off and the sprinklers would go off in the school. Because that? Would be hilarious... and fun.

Chillin' at the Arcade

default user pic

Who: Alexis and Isaac
Where: An arcade at the mall
When: Evening

After talking to her dad, Alexis just wanted to get out of the house, and for once he didn't try to stop her. He even let her have the car, just so she wouldn't be walking in the cold. Even if she felt better about the whole ordeal, she needed some space, some fresh air, and a chance to go let off some stress, if it was possible. She thought about giving Kyle a call, then decided against it, since that might only make the situation worse. Instead, she headed to the mall and began to wander, eventually making her way into the arcade. It was a good place to waste time, even if a little money, plus she could put some of her shooting range skills to the test. Popping a few quarters into one of the games, Alexis picked up the plastic gun and began to work the stress out of her system by killing herself some aliens.

Isaac had just been, well ... restless. Kaysen was in a bad mood, his parents were freaked out, Thom was off doing Thom things, the ghosts were more than a little unsettling, and he'd just wanted to get out of the house. He'd thought about calling up some of the guys, to see if he could round up a Guy's Night, but as he was flipping through phone numbers, found that there wasn't anybody he really wanted to hang out with. It was weird for him, but he was apparently in A Mood. So he decided just to work through it himself. Borrowing the van, he'd headed out to the mall to walk around a bit, and wandered into the arcade. Maybe some old fashioned Mortal Kombat would make him feel better or something. As his eyes skimmed around, he saw a vaguely familiar blonde head, and meandered over in that direction to watch her shoot things. Alexis, that was who it was. "Not bad for a girl," he said in a teasing sort of way once there was a break in the action.

It was a conversation she was dreading, but one she knew she couldn't put off. Ever since her talk with Thia and Michael, Alexis had been thinking about her father's job, who he hunted and who he spared. She'd been able to put it to the back of her mind for a few hours here and there, but then it would pop back up again. After months of worrying that she might be on the list, she'd finally reached the point where she needed to know. The last time they'd had this kind of conversation, she'd been a child. He'd said he hunted the bad things. Now that definition needed to be expanded on.

With Michael gone, Alexis had the house to herself, though her night was just as restless as ever. She needed to talk to her father, who arrived home sometime during the night, but it wasn't urgent enough that they discuss it at three in the morning. Even if she had tried to talk to him then, she wasn't sure what she wanted to say, and instead spent her waking moments trying to figure that out. What did he hunt and what did he not? It was a question that followed her to work that afternoon as she pulled the books on ghosts that she and Thom were going to look through. She planned to get an answer soon; she wouldn't let the weekend pass without finding out. Until then, there was work to be done.

Clarity and Conclusions

When: Night

Being home alone wasn't supposed to be quite this terrifying. Alexis' father had been home for dinner and while he was in the house there was nothing to be afraid of. The ghost that she'd seen last night was nowhere to be found. Assuring her that everything would be okay, he stepped out for the evening, and that was when the ghost appeared again, as if he was haunting her. Alexis didn't know why, couldn't fathom what she'd done to earn the ghost's attention, but she wanted him gone. Tonight it was worse. Tonight he was inside the house, stalking her, which left Alexis trying to hide from a being that walked through walls. Could they float, though? Like in movies? With the hope that they couldn't, she climbed up into the attic and drew the ladder, shutting herself in.

After last night's exchange with Kyle, she decided he probably wasn't a good option to try and calm her down. Alexis scrolled through her phone, looking for someone she could just talk to. When Thia's name popped up, she paused, trying to remember the last time they'd talked. It had been a while. Maybe catching up would be a nice distraction from the ghost below. With that in mind, she dialed the number and waited for Thia to pick up.

Seeing is Believing

When Alexis got to chemistry, she still hadn't decided what to say to Kyle, though she thought she might owe him an apology for being snippy. She didn't know how to handle the fact that he hadn't seen any ghosts at this point, seeing as she had one practically stalking her when she was at home. The ghost boy had followed her from room to room, peering in from the outside, till she finally decided to try and get some sleep. If the curtains were closed, then she couldn't see him, but that didn't help her sleep, constantly worrying he might wander inside. She was exhausted and spent most of the day thinking about where she could go to nap that wasn't at home.

Kyle walked into class soon after Alexis had and he hesitated in the doorway before finally walking to their table to sit down. He hadn't talked to her since their texting and was pretty sure she was still irritated with him. Which was fine, since he was a bit irritated with her too. He sat down and set his book bag on the table before opening it to dig around for his homework which he'd actually gotten finished. He was just stubborn enough to figure that if she wanted to talk to him, she would. If not, he could do the silent treatment just fine.

Believing in Ghosts

Alexis peered around the corner, then screamed before jumping back. He was still there, looking in her window, watching. Or waiting. She didn't care which. "Go away!" she yelled, then shut the curtains before backing across the room. Could ghosts walk through walls? What if he came inside? Even with the ghost out of view, she could still seem him in her mind, a bullet hole in the center of his forehead. Alexis picked up her phone, sending off a text with shaky hands. hey, are you busy? i'm home alone, kinda freaking out, and would like some company - alexis

Kyle was currently in his room, playing Gods of War on his Playstation when his phone buzzed. He paused his game and reached for it, noting immediately it was from Alexis. Frowning at her message, he replied quickly. at home. parents being all weird about me staying in. why are u freaking out? everything okay? It seemed like the weird paranoia was spreading to the entire town. He didn't quite understand it.

A Long Walk Home

default user pic

Who: Alexis and Thom
Where: The streets of Marquette
When: After school

For the first time in her life, everyone around Alexis was talking about the supernatural. Some couldn't believe their eyes, some were freaking out, but pretty much everyone had seen the same thing. She'd always thought that, if everyone knew what she knew, she wouldn't feel so alone. That wasn't the case, at least not right now. Just because they believed in ghosts didn't mean they believed in everything else. Furthermore, their belief didn't cover acceptance and talking to people who were still in denial made her even more frustrated. And panicked. When it came down to it, this wasn't what she was used to. Ghosts weren't supposed to be visible to everyone.

While she knew about the supernatural, she wasn't used to running into it on the streets. That included ghosts. Or spirits. She didn't really understand the difference. What she knew was that she'd rather not cross their paths. Alexis started walking home from school with paranoia practically coming off of her in waves as she watched for ghosts. She didn't know what they could do, but she didn't want to find out.

The sun hadn't set yet when the party started, which was a good reason for why the party was still on in the first place. Even if it was a kind of silly, geeky party, and a lot smaller than most, Charlotte was proud of her first-ever party. They had horror movies, pumpkin carving, and tables full of Halloween themed baked goods. And of course, costumes! Thankfully the animals were on their best behavior, but some of the cats kept darting between furniture to scope things out. None of them were used to a lot of people being in the house. This was definitely a first.

Lily returned from the hospital depressed. True to her word, she'd tried to tell the attack victims that they were potentially in danger. She'd done as Doc had suggested and kept it vague but urgent. All it had done was gotten her kicked out of several hospital rooms before being escorted out entirely by two security guards. By that time, it was edging towards dusk and she knew she needed to get home.

She made it back safely, confirming with her mother that her friends would be coming over that night. After that, all she needed to do was straighten up her room a little bit - she kept it fairly clean on a regular basis, and she didn't want to give her mom any reason to come in and bitch later that night. She worked quickly, then took her DS Lite and parked herself on the couch. A couple rounds of Ninja Town while she waited for the girls and Kyle to come over might help her stop thinking so hard about the people she'd talked to who would probably die later that night.

After the return text from Alexis and the subsequent text storm from Breezy, Lily knew that they should probably talk about what Alexis knew. Had she been warned by someone else and was just passing it along, or did she have somewhat of a direct pipeline herself?

She looked for Breezy at lunch to invite her for the chat, but didn't see the dreamweaver anywhere. It was okay; if Alexis was coming over tonight, they could always rehash things then. She wasn't going to give away Breezy's secret without express permission, and not until she knew what was up with Alexis. Spotting her friend in the crowd headed for the cafeteria, Lily squirmed her way through the mass of people to catch her elbow.

"Hey," she said, with a quick smile. "Want to grab our food and go somewhere quieter? I'm guessing there's some stuff we should probably talk about."

It's the end of the world as we know it. I'm throwing a party. My house, Halloween, 6 PM. Lots of silly horror movies, maybe some wii and pumpkin carving, ridiculous amounts of junk food. Would you and Chance like to come? Your brother and his girlfriend too. I don't know what the deal with Thom and Chrissy is and whether or not I should invite him. Also, cursed werewolf probably on the run, please please please be careful. I don't know if fire kills them or not. -Charlie

To Alexis, Eben, and Gabe:
I know it's a school night, but I'm gonna have a party on Halloween at my house at 6 PM. Horror movies, wii, pumpkin carving, and all the baked goodness and junk food you can handle. Costumes encouraged but optional. :) Feel free to invite anyone you like. Please please please don't walk, I'll pick people up and drop them off if anyone needs rides. Be careful over the weekend, guys. -Charlie

Just Hanging Out

Who: Alexis and Kyle
When: After hockey practice
Where: Don't know yet!

After hockey practice ended, Kyle quickly showered and changed before saying goodbye to Gabe and a couple of the other guys. He was suppose to meet up with Alexis at the school, since she would have been finishing up with dance practice around the same time. He was looking forward to just hanging out with her for awhile. Knowing they had plans, he left his bike at home that morning so he would be able to walk with her, and once he got back to the school, he dumped his things into his locker before heading out to track her down. He hoped she hadn't changed yet, since he really liked the little uniforms they wore. Then again, they were only practicing, so chances were she wasn't dressed up. Not that it mattered. Kyle found he quite liked the way she looked in just about anything - and more so nothing at all.

Alexis had been looking forward to hanging out with Kyle the whole time during practice, only afterward realizing that she didn't have a place to shower like the guys did. Not that she got super sweaty, but she was self conscious about it, and she didn't want him to think that she smelled. It was just something she'd have to deal with, apparently, and as the practice area began to clear, she took a seat on the floor to change her shoes.

She still wasn't sure how these things worked and she didn't want to read into it incorrectly. While she'd thought about calling him, or texting him, she wasn't all that sure what to say. And now it was Monday. Smiling, she stepped into the room and headed towards their shared lab desk.

It'd been a fun evening, at least for Kyle, hanging out with his friends and spending time with Alexis. He'd had a couple drinks, but nothing that would prevent him from being able to walk Alexis home. It would have probably been more comfortable, and warmer, to get a ride but he'd already had to deal with uneasiness of driving there, he didn't think he could keep from totally freaking out on the way home after having had a bit of alcohol. It was late by the time he said his goodbyes to his friends and went to track down Alexis. He was looking forward to the "alone" time with her, given they'd been surrounded by people all night. A goodnight kiss was definitely in the cards.

Alexis had deemed the bonfire a success, pleased with the turn out and how long people actually stayed. It was cold enough that she'd been worried about them leaving early, but the fire had done it's job, and the group lingered as long as they could find warmth. As the fire began to die, she began to search out Kyle, a couple of blankets in her hands, and a bag on her shoulder. Even if she wasn't walking perfectly straight, she was sure she was doing fine enough to get home. Now she was glad she didn't have the car. "Hey you," she smiled, strolling up to him lazily. "Ready to take off?"

The bonfire was built, and once people started to arrive, the boys set it ablaze. With the fire there to keep them warm, everyone gathered around, talking in small groups mostly, twos and threes. Some roasted marshmallows and made smores, others drank hot chocolate, diving into whatever they brought with them. It was much more casual than a house party, thought Alexis, but in some ways more comfortable. She didn't know everyone there, but it wasn't so big a group that it wasn't possible. She'd just have to see how things went over the course of the night.

The energy from the game never seemed to leave Alexis, who was still full of energy after the game was over. How she'd made it this far through high school without attending that sort of event, she didn't know, but she was more excited than ever that her life had turned the way it had. She'd had a great time dancing for the crowd, relieved when she'd remembered all the steps, and now she had another week before their next performance. As the crowds started out of the rink, she hung around the locker room exit, waiting for Kyle in her dance uniform. She'd not thought to bring a change of clothes, and though she had the jacket to help keep her warm, that did nothing for her legs. On the bright side, her dad had let her take the car. She didn't need to be walking home this late, especially dressed as she was.

Kyle came out of the locker room, freshly showered and changed, his bags in hand. He sought out Alexis and grinned when he spotted her. He tried not to let his eyes stare too blatantly at her body, but... wow. He was disappointed he didn't get to see her shaking her ass between periods. "Hey," he greeted with a wide grin. He was in a better mood now that they had won. And Gabe hadn't seem terribly pissed off with him afterward, so that was always a bonus. "You're going to be cold walking in that." Not that he minded at all. He had a hundred different suggestions on how he could keep her warm.

Thursday was one day closer to the bonfire and Alexis was just about to burst. She couldn't wait for the event to start, and the only thing better than that was planning the details needed to get it underway. She'd run into only one hitch in her plans, that being her mode of transportation. Kyle had suggested talking to Nate, and so when the bell rang to end History, she grabbed her books and headed over to his desk before he could leave the room. "You have a few?" she asked, glad it was the end of the day. At least they didn't have to rush off to another class.

"Hey," Nate said and carefully put his backpack over his shoulder. His good shoulder. "Yeah, what's up?" He asked, suspecting this was about the bonfire. Or at least he hoped it was about the bonfire and not Kavin's dilemma. On top of his list of priorities right now was smoking, but he could take time out. Maybe it had to do with the planning, he was supposed to be a part of this whole thing, in theory at least. A thing he wasn't quite used to, being involved in the planning stages.

It had been a long night with Kavin, even longer once the guy had left as Kyle spent most of the rest of the night on the internet researching detox. It sounded dangerous, and painful, and he was more than ready to text Kavin throughout the day to check on him. At least to make sure he was still conscious. Being tired meant that he didn't shoot any hoops that morning, and his homework had been left untouched, which meant another lecture from his tutor during lunch. Rubbing his eyes as he walked into chemistry class, Kyle set his bag on the table and rested his head on it before closing his eyes. He could do a five minute nap. Eight minutes if the teacher was slow in getting class started.

"Rough night?" Alexis asked as she strolled into class, taking her seat beside Kyle at the lab table. She couldn't tell if he was tired or sick, but he didn't look all that great either way. It'd been a while since she'd seen him with his head down on his desk. Then again, his friends seemed to have a lot going on in their lives lately and maybe it was dragging him down. She heard enough about them from everyone else that he didn't even have to tell her.
