Good Night
Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 05/11/2009 - 05:13.Who: Claire and Gabe
When: Late late/early?
Where: The library
It wasn't the most comfortable place to sleep, being in the library, but it was definitely the place Claire preferred. At least over choosing between the gym and auditorium. She hadn't been able to sleep very well anyway, given she was in school, but thankfully she had Gabe there to keep her company... despite what had happened at his house the night before. Things could have been weird, but luckily they didn't feel too weird, and he was still with her rather than in the gym, for which she was grateful. It probably would have been worse trying to sleep alone.
Gabe had just returned from chatting with Lauren, having given in to his need to wander a bit and now ready to settle down for the night. He and Claire had set up a little pallet in the corner of the library, where it was quiet and seemingly safe, even if Gabe wasn't sure what he was protecting her from. It just felt necessary, considering the circumstances. "You're still awake," Gabe said, coming over to take a seat beside her on the floor. It didn't really surprise him if she couldn't sleep. Gabe wasn't having an easy time of it himself, hence the little walk he'd taken.

So, they'd had a plan - Dean had met up with Caleb and Nic and they'd agreed that whever they were 'meant' to be staying for the night, they were actually breaking into the pool and kipping there, away from everyone else. So, they'd headed that way and dumped their stuff and now it was just a case of getting their allocations of blankets there as well, without being spotted by any of the staff and herded in with all the dross.

They'd been told that they were going to have to stay in school. Which was something that Leija immediately did not like. She'd tried calling her dad to see if he could come and get her, but he'd made clear just how bad everything was out there, and that he was going to be sleeping in his office at the university himself. The very thought of being caught at MSHS overnight made the angel kind of queasy to her stomach, and panicky. How closely would they be watched? What if she got called out? Could she sneak away? Would they lock the doors and windows? Marquette wasn't the safest place in the world anymore, after all, and it was going to be dark.

The tongue lashing Gabe received from his mom was unlike any he'd gotten in a rather long time. While she'd always been annoyed with him for fighting, now it was different. She didn't wait to hear the explanation before ripping into him, and even after she insisted that he should have done a better job at getting away from the fight. Gabe thought it best to leave out the part where he'd thrown the first punch.
After dinner, he lay on his bed, staring up at the ceiling as the day's events ran through his head. There really wasn't much that could have made it worse, so instead he tried to think of something that would make it better. Gabe sucked on his lip as he reached for his phone, hitting the speed dial for Claire. It would be nice to talk to her, just for a little bit, and maybe she'd be able to cheer him up.

After leaving Nevermore, Kyle headed directly toward Gabe's house. He kept Dorian's advice in mind - not to provoke a werewolf. But... yeah, he was still pretty doubtful that werewolves existed. In fact, he was more worried about just hurting Gabe than anything else. But experiments were experiments, and hopefully his friend would understand that. He just had to think of a way to piss the guy off enough... and if that didn't work, then maybe he'd start a fight with him to see what happened. If Gabe turned into a crazy, hairy monster? Then holy shit, okay, he'd believe. And probably be dead too... but... chances were it wouldn't go down that way.
You're a crazy, stupid mother fucker, he thought before shaking his head and walking up Gabe's driveway to the front door. This could all easily backfire on him, which he was almost prepared for. But he felt he had to do it. Taking a deep breath, Kyle lifted his hand to knock.

His mother had gone to church, but listening to someone talk about the end of the world wasn't high on Gabe's list of fun things to do. He had enough to stress about without adding that to the mix. Instead, he headed over to Charlotte's house, hoping that maybe they could hang out for a bit, and maybe talk about ghosts. After spending the evening with Lauren, he was eager to learn more about them, and Charlotte seemed to be the most informed person he knew. Knocking on the door, he waited for someone to answer, hearing the footsteps inside before anyone even made it near the door.

Who: Gabe and Lauren
Where: Babylon
When: Night
Restlessness hit Gabe around dusk and by the time the sun had fully set, he was pulling on his coat, just wanting to get out. It didn't matter where to, so long as he wasn't in the house. Telling his mom he was going to Kyle's, he climbed in his car and began to drive around town, trying to decide just where it was he wanted to go. Kyle's place was out, since he'd scared the guy off, and he wasn't willing to just drop by Claire's place on the off chance that tonight was date night with Joshua. He thought about going by Kavin's place, but then he wasn't sure he was ready to hang out with the guy. The last thing he wanted to do was get into a snippy conversation and so he steered clear of anyone he might have to talk werewolf shit with. That didn't leave him with a hell of a lot of people to talk to.
He was thinking about turning around and heading home when he came across Babylon, which was weird because he remembered it being somewhere else the last time he'd been there. Sure, they had a bar that was adults only, but he'd been able to enter the club for the masquerade. Parking the car out front, he headed in, hoping that part was still open for him to enter. He wasn't sure he wanted to go dancing or anything, but maybe there was a pool table, or maybe he could shoot darts. Wandering inside, he started to have a look around, not entirely sure he knew what he was doing. This wasn't the sort of place he usually wandered into alone.

Kyle was frustrated. It happened pretty often, for various reasons, but at that particular moment, Kyle was letting his frustrations start to boil over concerning the 'ghost issues'. The news was still reporting on them, people were still talking about them, and Kyle had yet to see one with his own eyes. So he had Kavin insisting they had been there before Kyle arrived, he had Alexis pissed at him for not believing her and his own parents were murmuring about it when they didn't think Kyle could hear them. It felt like a massive joke was being played on him by the entire world - or he was just too stupid, or blind as Alexis had said, to see any of it. It made him want to go spend the night in one of the cemeteries, just to see if he could spot something. Even a flicker of a ghost would be cool at this point.

After yesterday's call with Oz, Gabe thought he probably needed to get on with this whole cage building business. While it wasn't on the top of his fun-things-to-do list, it was a must that couldn't be put off. The last thing he needed was to wait so long that it became a crisis. Even though Kavin had offered to help, Gabe finally decided to give the private contractor that Oz had mentioned a call. If he had experience building cages, Billy seemed like a better bet than the friend that usually hunted werewolves instead of locking them up. His number wasn't hard to find in the phone book, even though it didn't specify an expertise in cage building. Taking a deep breath, Gabe dialed the number and waited for someone to pick up.

It had been too sunny for a funeral. Gabe expected rain, or at least good cloud cover, but they hadn't even had that. This time of year, it would have been snow. Anything would have been better than the sun. It didn't fit his mood, though the biting cold was a reminder that even the most beautiful day could have it's harsh side. As the sun set, Gabe found himself lingering in the cemetery, staring down at Chrissy's grave. Reality was hard, even when it was staring him in the face.

Gabe had read the anonymous note over and over again all week. Eventually, he re-typed it and saved it on his computer, afraid he might ruin the only copy he had, though he was careful to keep it in a safe place. He just couldn't decide if he should try contacting the guy, since he did have an abundance of friends willing to help him-- more friends than he wanted, even. But not one of them was cursed like he was, and so he finally worked up the nerve to call the number on the flier. He was taking a risk, and he knew that, but he thought he could ask the right questions to make sure he had the right guy before giving too much of himself away first. As the phone rang, Gabe's foot tapped nervously, hoping he wouldn't get voice mail. He hadn't planned on leaving a message.

Having semi-resolved his issues with Kavin, Gabe's day only continued to get better. He knew that it would come crashing down later, but for now he'd pretend there wasn't a funeral coming up later that afternoon. For now, he'd get to brag about his first set of real wheels that didn't belong on a bicycle. Dumping his books and grabbing his lunch, he headed over to Kyle's locker, looking to catch up with his friend for the first time in a long while. He wasn't sure how it happened, but they'd not been connecting, probably due to the fact that Gabe's life had become a circus over the past week. Unfortunately, Kyle didn't have any idea how true this was, and Gabe didn't think he could tell him. Out of all his friends, Kyle was least likely to believe the weirdness that had infiltrated his life.
Kyle saw Gabe coming as he put his morning books away and grabbed his afternoon homework. He didn't have tutoring that day, which was awesome since he wanted to see Gabe's new set of wheels. He was still waiting on Kavin to call or text him about the supposed ghosts, but so far, nothing. Which wasn't surprising. "Hey man," Kyle greeted. "Long time no talk... or see... or whatever the fuck. You've been a busy mother fucker." Kyle shut his locker and slung his bag over his shoulder before grinning. "I heard something about you finally getting your own set of wheels."

Gabe was sure that the day he was supposed to be bouncing into school was yesterday, but today was the first day that he'd driven himself to school. Not having to walk, or ride the bus, or having his mom take him made all the difference in the world, and he headed towards his locker with a grin on his face. Grabbing his books, he moved on, pausing when he saw Kavin at his own locker. He was in a good mood today, despite having a funeral to attend later, and he'd cooled down enough that he thought he could manage a civil conversation in public. "Hey, Kav," Gabe said, continuing towards Kavin's locker. "You got a sec?"
Kavin blinked and dropped his book on the floor when he heard Gabe's voice. God fucking idiot. Dropping shit? he thought to himself as he bent down to pick up the fallen book. "I'm not supposed to talk to you." he said simply. "I'd rather not get myself in hot water if I can help it." He didn't want to give Charlotte any excuses to out him. The last thing he needed to be doing was talking to Gabe, he knew, but he'd not approached him, Gabe had come up out of his own free will.

Presents of the Birthday Sort

Claire had managed to get a bunch of balloons taped to Gabe's locker before the school day started, although sadly she hadn't been able to find an embarrassing hat to make him wear either. While she had struggled to find the perfect gift for him, she was pretty sure she had done okay in the long run. She had finished his CD, and his gift was currently, well, not there yet. But she had the print out of her online order in his birthday card. She had only bought the thing after calling his mom the night before when she'd gotten home from Joshua's. Hopefully he would like it, and not find it cheesy or something. During history they had agreed to meet outside by her car once school was over, and after she got her things, she headed outside, zipping up her jacket and searching through her book bag for her car keys as he waited for him.
Gabe was glad to get out of school, where talk of the ghosts was beginning to drive him nuts. He'd under-estimated just how much he could hear and even the whispers of his classmates seemed to register as he walked through the halls. While he'd always been fine with crowded hallways, now he wanted to tell people to mind their own business and shut up. Unfortunately, he couldn't say anything since they'd barely been talking in the first place. On the up side, it was his birthday and an undercurrent of happiness seemed constant. The balloons on his locker had been a good way to start the day and he'd known they had to be from Claire. Seeing her in the parking lot, he jogged ahead to catch up to her just as she made it to her car. "Hey," he grinned. "Thanks for the balloons."

Sometimes Skye's aunt was a little oblivious to things like schedules and nonsense like that, especially when she was off doing damage control because of ghosts. Skye wasn't processing that last bit very well, it was just maybe the last straw on her capability too wrap her head around things in general, but it did mean that she was dropped off at school way to early for even her own personal tastes. Somehow school always felt empty and echoing when there was no one in the hallways.
So Skye was kind of wandering around, feeling kind of lost and lonely and unsure of what to do in an empty school, which did have people and some of them you could see through.

They had horror movies, pumpkin carving, and tables full of Halloween themed baked goods. And of course, costumes! This was definitely a first.

Gabe had gotten to school downright early. Far earlier than normal, which meant the halls were still mostly empty as he wandered to his locker. Yesterday had been wearing, with the conversation with Kavin, then with Nate, then receiving the anonymous gift that told him someone else knew what he was. Someone with a sense of tact, which was better than his friends had. Someone that was also a werewolf and knew what he was going through. Gabe had been unable to sleep, his senses becoming more and more sensitive as the days passed, and he realized that earplugs would be essential to preventing exhaustion going forward. Eventually he'd just given up and headed to school, rather than have his mother worry over him for the rest of the morning. Though she wasn't crumbling to pieces, this was hard on her as well, and he hoped that getting to school would provide her some relief.

He'd explained to the teacher that he'd been injured, presented a doctor's note, and got to sit it out, which was only annoying in that it actually looked like fun. On the other hand, he knew it would all do shit against a werewolf, since the school wasn't encouraging the students to carry guns. Who: Gabe and Drea
When: post-lunch
Where: school
After talking with Nic -- which had gone better than she had worried about -- Drea felt a little stronger. Just a little. And she needed to find Gabe, which spurred her on out of the stairwell after the bell had rung, and toward the gym. If he was going to be easy to find, he'd probably be in there. She hadn't known about Chrissy until she'd come to school that day, seeing as how she slept most of the weekend away, and her first thoughts had been of him when she had heard. It was a double-reason to see how he was, and as she limped into the place where they were holding the memorial, her nostrils flared and eyes darted around at the same time.
Gabe had stayed in the gym through lunch, not entirely sure he could eat if he wanted to. The day thus far had been emotionally draining and the thought of going to his afternoon classes didn't exactly appeal to him. Besides, everyone just seemed so... so loud. It was a change he was still adjusting to, one he didn't completely understand and was serving to drive him nuts. What he really wanted was to crawl back into bed and sleep this all away, but he'd already tried that and it didn't work. As the bell rang to end lunch, Gabe glanced at the clock and stayed right where he was. Time seemed to have stopped. There was silence for a minute, then the door to the gym opened and Drea limped in. Gabe frowned, pulled from his funk at the recognition that a friend had been hurt. "What happened?" he asked, rising to his feet. "Are you okay?"
Missing Chrissy

Where: MSHS, the gym
When: Late morning
After Peyton left, Gabe stayed in the gym. At one point he wandered around to the memorials for the other students, but he kept coming back to Chrissy's, his thoughts growing darker as he imagined the last few minutes of her life. He hoped it was fast, that it had been as painless as possible. He hated the thought of her running scared through the park, unable to get away, dying in terror. It just wasn't right, and it was made even worse when he remembered that he would become that sort of monster. Gabe sat at the back of the bleachers, staring into space, as that fact sunk in. Every full moon he'd be reminded of her, of what he might do to the people he cared for.
Thom walked into the gym. He'd been here earlier on, but he couldn't stay all day - he just couldn't do that. He felt conflicted today. He'd be here because he couldn't not be. Yes, the girl was dead, but he wasn't crass and callous enough to just forget that they'd had something - even if all they'd had between them was a lie, a fake. He wasn't going to suddenly end that. But still, he felt almsot dirty, carrying it through, carrying on the lie. Even though admitting the truth would be no better. He was trapped in this - there was no way out, there was no right thing to do here. And there was still that guilt, that lingering guilt, that maybe he could have saved her, even though he knew he couldn't - for so many reasons it was pointless to count them all. So, he'd been there that morning, and then gone off to class, and now he was back again, pausing at her memorial before looking round. He spotted Gabe on the bleachers, made eye contact, wondering whether he'd be welcome to go over. Wondering whether he wanted to - given the situation, and given how things were left between them last time. Everything was a mess.

When: Morning
The gym wasn't packed, at least not on the far end, where Chrissy's portrait stood. There were four pictures in total, lined up across the gym, as a representation of the students lost in the attacks. Students were encouraged to gather and support one another, but the number down by Chrissy's picture was scarce.
Gabe remembered the memorial service held for Lullaby, a girl that everyone loved. This wasn't quite the same, though the death of three other students did mean that there were tears being shed, fond memories being recited among the other little groups. He didn't expect that to be the case for Chrissy. She had her followers, girls that stayed on her good side because it was better than being on her bad side. And she had her admirers, guys that just wanted to screw her, that had heard she was good in bed.
What she didn't have a lot of were friends, and even if Gabe wasn't sure if he was among them, he knew he was one of the few that actually knew her, that had seen beyond the plastic bitch exterior she put forth. He planned to go to her funeral, but had brought flowers here as well, and set them up beside the portrait. Gabe sat on the bleachers in silence, intending to stay there until they made him leave. While he never thought he could miss the bitch, he never thought she'd be truly gone. He wondered if he was the only one there who wanted her back.
