Breaking Curfew

Who: Kaysen and Tad

The sun had been setting when he'd arrived at the library, and now that he was leaving it was even later. Tad didn't have a curfew because he'd never had a reason to have one before, but tonight he'd probably end up being accused of breaking it. Instead of pedaling towards Grams, a late dinner and more classic movies, while they avoided talking about what happened on his trip, Tad steered his bike one handed while eating cracker's from his backpack and headed for Kaysen's house.

Kaysen was wandering. She'd sort of broken off from the rest of the group as soon as she possibly could. She was just walking, following corridors, and it seemed there was an endless supply of them. She had her map, though it was shoved into her back pocket, ignored for the moment. It wasn't like she minded if she got lost. It was a neat place. Weird, of course, and there were quite a lot of ghosts, most of which didn't seem to want much to do with her so far. But then she'd just kind of waved, and kept about her business.

Turning a corner, she found a room that looked like it used to be a greenhouse or something. It had glass walls and all, so was the ceiling. Snow covered most of it, and she kind of liked the feel of it. Walking inside, she looked up and around, seeing cracks in the glass of one of the panes in the ceiling, but it didn't look like it was in danger of smashing out or anything. The lights were dimmer in there, since she hadn't flipped them on, and with the snow cover, it was almost dark. At the very least, it was heavily shadowed. Shadowed, and nifty. She even smiled a faint bit.

Kaysen was out. She didn't feel like being home, since things were still massively tense, Isaac was still leaving, and there wasn't a single good place to be in that house. So, she'd taken off. She'd grabbed her board, and was going to do some really stupid skateboarding in the snow. Down steps. And just general mind numbing shit. Whatever, she just wanted things to be over.

Thom was in shock. He just felt numb. He'd been sitting on the couch in the basement of his home for he didn't even know how long, cradling an acoustic guitar he wasn't even playing, staring blankly at the wall across from him.

Tonight his one dream had come true - along with his worst nightmare. Everything was reality now, and it had all ended. All his illusions had come to an end, all his dreams had gone. Over. In one night.

Try as hard as he could Tad could not sit still long enough to do anything all morning. He'd tried at least three different video games, tried getting a jump start on his project with Dean or the other homework that was piling up, tried just dancing around his room to loud music and none of it worked. He was still jittery and completely unfocused. Giving up he grabbed his bike and did his best to brave the weather and less than ideal road conditions to just wander around town.

Who: Kaysen and Isaac
When: afternoon
Where: mostly in the van

It was Saturday, and Isaac felt like he owed his sister some time. Like ... big time. She hadn't said much about her breakup with Chance, something that he hadn't really pushed. He knew that breakups sucked, and he knew how dramatic Kaysen was. He didn't have anything going on that afternoon, as the band practice had been postponed, so he decided to sister-nap her and do something. Coming out of his room, Isaac finished pulling a long-sleeved shirt down over his head and banged on her door. "Hey!" he called through it, grinning a little and already expecting to get yelled at.

Kaysen was in there, doing some homework on her bed though really, that was a loose description. Mostly she had her history book open, and she was doodling on her notebook as opposed to say, reading the words in the book and taking any notes which had been her goal. She was distracted, and she really didn't give a shit about whatever happened to some dudes way back in the day that no one really cared about in the first place. When the bang came on her door, she was happy for it, and grinned, even if she snapped out a response that sounded annoyed. "Oh my god, what the fuck do you want?!" she called. "And what're you trying to do, break the door down?"

Charlotte still had a lot to do before the party, but most of it was quick work she could do before everybody got there. Before she went to pick up Ransom and pick out movies, she wanted to spend some time with Kaysen. She figured if anyone would be excited over Charlotte's first threatening encounter, it'd be Kaysen. Plus, she wanted to make sure she was still coming to the party. All good things. As soon as she put her books away, she headed across the street.

Kaysen was up in her room, and she saw Charlie walking across the street. By now she'd almost forgotten that it was Halloween. That there were things going on that totally didnt' stop for her breakdown or...'break' with Chance, or his mom being a killer or anything like that. But the world kept turning. People kept doing whatever they were doing. At least no one had come asking her if it was her who'd started the fire at school. She waited a few minutes, til she heard the knock on her door, and she looked back over at it. "C'min." she said, squishing the statement into one word.

By the time the bell rang for lunch, Chance realized he hadn't seen Kaysen all day. Usually he caught glimpses of her, even if he wasn't able to catch up and say hello or steal her away for a quick kiss or something. But today he couldn't recall seeing her, which had him on a mission as people filed into the lunch room. He wandered for a bit, looking in the library, some empty halls and classrooms to see where she'd hidden herself. Finally he walked outside, realizing she left school at lunch at times, despite the weather. Sure enough, he found her at the tennis courts and was thankful he'd pulled on his jacket. "Hey," he said, walking up to her. "You doing okay?" Chance wasn't oblivious to her mood lately, or the fact that she had been unusually quiet - at least with him.

Kaysen wanted her fucking board back. But the stupid lake had eaten it. It was now the new bane of her existence. It was all...wet. And ate precious things you couldn't ever ever get back. Like skateboards. And people, she guessed, but whatever. She had decided to take it personally. It was because she was a fire elemental, or something. That was her story and she was sticking to it.

And alright, it was cold, and there was snow on the ground, but she could still probably use her deck for a good week or so more. It'd be a lot more fun doing that for halloween tomorrow than like...hoofing it or whatever. She still hadn't quite decided what she was doing. There was Charlie's thing and stuff...hm. But that would require her to be social and shit. And she still didn't even know where her head was at lately, with the Chrissy shit. She still knew she should be feeling more about that than she was, and it was a bit worrying. She just didn't know who to talk to about it. It wasn't like she had a million options, and she understood that it might say about her one blinding thing: she was a terrible person. So...who really wanted to bring that to friends or family? Oi.

She didn't have her board. The lake had eaten it, and she just hadn't had the heart to go get a new one. Nowish, she was trying to sort out her feelings on Chrissy's death. She knew in theory she shouldn't ever be happy about something like that. She should feel bad or...something.

It's the end of the world as we know it. I'm throwing a party. My house, Halloween, 6 PM. Lots of silly horror movies, maybe some wii and pumpkin carving, ridiculous amounts of junk food. Would you and Chance like to come? Your brother and his girlfriend too. I don't know what the deal with Thom and Chrissy is and whether or not I should invite him. Also, cursed werewolf probably on the run, please please please be careful. I don't know if fire kills them or not. -Charlie

I know it's a school night, but I'm gonna have a party on Halloween at my house at 6 PM. Horror movies, wii, pumpkin carving, and all the baked goodness and junk food you can handle. Costumes encouraged but optional. :) Feel free to invite anyone you like. Please please please don't walk, I'll pick people up and drop them off if anyone needs rides. Be careful over the weekend, guys. -Charlie

Kaysen sat on her window seat in her room, watching out the window after she dialed Chance's number and listened to it ringing in her ear. She still felt a little weird about calling people. Even Chance, when she knew it was lame of her. It just had nothing to do with who she was talking to do and everything to do with her own weird issues. She'd almost texted him, but then opted not to, wanting to actually talk-talk to him. Properly. As she did so, she reached out to fix the bracelet on her wrist--which hadn't come off since he'd given it to her. She knew she should, but...well...she liked it. So she couldn't bring herself to do that.

Kaysen was heading along Lakeshore, hands shoved into her hoodie's pockets, and she was barely feeling the cold. Inside her pockets, she kept flicking the lighter of Kurt's. Or hers. He'd given it to her, she knew that, but she still thought about it as his. Hopping the gate that went across the road up to the island, it now being shut as hell to keep out the infidels--like her--she kept going. It got dark fast, it sinking in around her as she left the lights of the little marina behind. She was headed towards the breakwall. That was always a good walk. Nice. It was far away from people, anyways, and that's what she was after.

It was getting on towards nightish. It was dark, anyways, as Kaysen walked over to sit on Thom's back porch. Sure, she could knock. Or ring the doorbell. Or y'know, totally just open up the door and walk in like she owned the place. But...she didn't. Because she still wasn't at all sure what she was going to say. There were words. Opinions, in fact, but...expressing things wasn't really her forte.

Alright, she did fine with anger, but that was it. And she didn't really want to be pissy at him over this. She wanted to attempt rationality. Rationality, and like...normal talking tones and she could tell him what she thought and maybe it would be over.

Or, alternately, she could get pissed, say a bunch of shit all at once that she regretted later, had no idea how to apologize for, probably in the end would figure it was too much work anyways, and then everything would be Weird.

Which, actually, now that she was thinking about it, put things back to normal...

Casting a longing glance towards her house, she sighed, rejecting the idea of just going home again. No, she'd put this off for-fucking-ever. It was time to talk to him about The Chrissy Shit.

Thom was home, in the kitchen chopping up vegetables for dinner, having decided that he'd cook tonight, rather than grab a takeout. He saw the shadow pass the window and his first thought was Isaac, except it was smaller. He put the knife down and headed out, a little surprised to actually see Kaysen sitting on the porch. "Hi - you okay?" he asked, stepping out to her and sitting down.

Kaysen was by nature a bit on the vindictive side. It was brought out at odd times, really, and she generally didn't take out any vengeance for herself. But fuck with people she cared about, and that was a whole different story. So, she'd gone investigating. Which meant first breaking into his locker.

That didn't come up with anything, so she left it be. So, she waited til she knew he had gym--since he had it with Charlie, and then snuck into the boy's locker room. She broke into his locker there, and that's where she found the jackpot. She ganked the pills he had in there, then shut the locker again like nothing was amiss, and walked out with them. Stashing them in her pocket, she brought them outside and with a flick of Kurt's lighter, she torched them. Which really didn't take long at all, and she kicked the remains off into the grass where no one was likely to find it. Then, happier with things, she headed back to class. Maybe next time people would think before they flipped out and became insane dickfaces at her friends.
