I'm home from the hospital. Yes. Hospital. That party thing I got invited to? Ended up in disaster, in demon-ish cat form. Long story short (because that's not really the point), I'm still sick and scratched up, but they let me come home. Everybody lived -- which is not me being dramatic. I'm tired of talking about it.

Getting Closer

Who: Thom and Leija
When: afternoon on
Where: Leija's room
Warning: work-cautious toward the end. >.>

Thom had canceled his planned day when Leija had called earlier on to say that she was home from the hospital and not to go visit, if that's what he'd been intending to do. Because, well, that was what he'd been intending to do, after all. She'd also told him that she was going to go sleep for a few hours, but if he wanted to come over that afternoon, that'd be fine. And, as Thom was still feeling hideously guilty about everything and probably would have done anything she asked at that point, he agreed and intend spent his morning down in the basement, laid out on one of the couches with his guitar. Once the 'afternoon' wore round, he'd called a cab, decided that he really needed to have that 'car' talk with his mom again, and headed on over to Leija's. Paying the driver, he walked up the driveway and knocked at the door.

As Leija was upstairs, racked out asleep on her bed and breathing even, it was her dad who answered the knock on the door. He was entirely unsurprised to see Thom standing on the front porch. They'd crossed paths in the hospital for the past couple of days, exchanged one brief introduction, but that had been about the extent of it. John had learned years ago that giving Leija her space was the best course of action most of the time -- though that space had never been shared by young men before. It was odd, but his expression was pleasant enough as he gave the boy a nod and stepped back to let him in. "Thom," he greeted.

"Mr Christiensen," Thom said, politely as he entered the house. "Is Leija awake yet? She said she was going to get some sleep, but that I could come over this afternoon." His tone was deferent, respectful, but confident - a habit of Thom's. He'd learnt how to successfully walk that line years ago. He was still a little unsure, almost nervous, around Leija's father, but that didn't show outwardly.

uneasy conversations

kaysen .....

who: kaysen n chance
where: diner, his house
when: middayish

Kaysen was in her room most of the day, playing with fire. Literally, actually, she'd been testing out the weird fire thing, especially after Charlie's visit. At first she had been afraid to, but after a while, she realized that she wasn't getting burned. At all. Like, she could sit there and hold her palm in the flame for as long as she wanted, and it didn't hurt, and it definitely didn't burn. She couldn't figure it out, but hell. She found out she could stick her hair in the little flame and nothing happened. She didn't know what was happening, and was caught in this terrible cycle of thinking it was cool and being completely blindsided with it, thinking it made her some kind of freak and it was scary.

She'd been so absorbed with that that the day had sort of skated by and when she glanced up at the time she was jarred to find out it was about time for Chance to be showing up. Which was a whole different sort of panic, and sent her into flail mode.

General Wanderings

Who: Jocelyn and Charlotte
Where: Peter White Public Library
When: Morningish

Jocelyn had finished the morning mass at St. Peter's Cathedral before deciding to take a walk up to the hospital to check on Gray. She made no plans to visit, if he was still admitted, but she wanted to at least make sure he was all right. Unfortunately, given she wasn't family, they wouldn't release any information to her, so all she could do was simply hope for the best that he was doing fine now, and go on her way. Maybe she'd run into him again, who knew? It was a small town, after all. The weather was warm again, and already a bit humid. Jocelyn didn't want to complain too much, as autumn would be cooling things down before she knew it, so she was determined to enjoy the summer weather while she could.

So she walked for awhile, thankful that she wasn't coming across any seizure prone strangers about to get plowed down in the middle of the street. It was nice to be able to think with a clear mind, to let the day wash over her and cleanse the parts of her she was continually at battle with. Her feet were aching, just a tiny bit, in her boots by the time she came upon the library. It looked inviting and it'd been awhile she'd read anything other than the newspaper, so she found herself walking inside, breathing in the scents of dust and books. Jocelyn wandered for a bit before finding a small section on religious symbols. It was one she hadn't read before, so she carried it with her as she browsed, enjoying the opportunity to be out today, to be alone and do whatever she pleased. Not many people would find wandering a library very exciting, but currently Jocelyn was in her element. At least with the subject matter she was carrying at hand.

TIME UPDATE

Date: Saturday, August 11th 2007

Weather: The sunny weather continues today, hitting the high eighties once more. It's humid and muggy with hardly a breath of wind.

Events: Animal control appears to be having some success with the cat problem - or, at least, there seem to be slightly fewer of them around. They are still being spotted all over town though and the official advice is to not approach them and to immediately seek medical attention if bitten or scratched. A local newpaper has also run an editorial condemning animal control and their 'inhumane' tactics, showing grainy pictures of dead cats. Apparently someone has been leaving very dead and occasionally dismembered kitty corpses around town and, naturally, animal control has gotten the blame.

If you have any events or anything going on which you think warrants a mention in the time update, please let us know!
