Forgetting someone

default user pic

Who: Dylan and May
Where: Phones
When: 10pm

Dylan had been in bed for the last hour but he wasn't asleep yet. He always struggled to drift off now, always fought it to save himself from the nightmares of his mother, but in his new house pretending to go to bed felt better than staying up. He didn't mind his new family, all of them seemed nice enough but it felt awkward and he barely knew them. It was easier to pretend to be tired and hide in his room. He was playing Snake on his phone when it occurred to him that he needed to call May. Obviously it was too late to try it now but he had promised to do it before the weekend, before everything had gone downhill and he hadn't seen her since. He'd skipped school on Monday and today had been cancelled so... After drumming his fingers across the screen for a moment, he decided to play it safe and text her.

Voicemail for Mathias

default user pic

Who: Olivia to Mathias
When: Late
Where: Voicemail

Hi, it's me. I wanted to let you know I'm leaving town... for good. I'm moving to California tomorrow and... I probably should have come to say goodbye in person but maybe it's best for the both of us that I didn't. I'll miss you and... maybe I'll see you again someday. You meant a lot to me. You still do. Take care of yourself, please? And be careful... and if you need anything, to talk... or anything. Just call me. Thank you for everything, Mathias..."

Bread Buddies

default user pic

Who: Kavin and Jeri
When: Evening
Where: Kavin's home

"Tell me again how I let you talk me into baking bread?" Kavin said. He looked pretty odd in jeans, shirtless with an apron around his middle, but he wanted the least mess possible while making the dough like Jeri had instructed. "I'm a guy. I'm a guy. I'm supposed to be a horrid cook. Why are you turning me into Martha Steward?" he teased.

"I'm not turning you into Martha Steward. Though I'm pretty sure that woman desperately needs to get laid." Jeri managed not to look offended. She wasn't shirtless, but she was wearing an apron. "We're making bread because it's almost violent and very fun, and then you'll have fresh bread to eat. Think about it. Fresh bread. It'll be delicious and you can show it off to your friends and proclaim yourself the greatest cook of all of them." Not that she thought people like Gabriel Winters had any kind of cooking skill, but if they did she doubted they'd make bread anyway. "And besides, this way if you ever end up being the last person on earth, you'll still have bread to eat. Go get three cups of warm - not hot - water and put a third of a cup of honey in it, and two of those packets of yeast." Jeri set a glass bowl on the counter.

Deciding on a Change

Who: Olivia and Judiel
When: evening
Where: Judi's Apartment

Judiel waited until twilight before he emerged from the abandoned house he'd taken shelter in the night before. He was on the outskirts of Marquette, and the snow had been daunting. He'd barely found a place to hole up before the storm had really hit, and was just thankful he had some matches on him. The small fire he carefully built and the furs on his back kept him alive and unfrost-bitten. And then it cleared and he heard them plowing the roads. Still, he waited for nightfall to come again, huddled in his little shelter. He looked a sight, skinny and unshaven, and wearing only animal pelts. Even in Marquette, that would draw attention. So he waited, humming songs quietly to himself to pass the time. Humming and dreaming of Olivia.

Bad Day Gets Worse

default user pic

Who: Joshua and Claire
When: Mid-day
Where: Joshua's

After what felt like an eternity, the school finally allowed students to leave the premises. Most of the roads were clear now, and while there were piles of snow here and there on the sidewalks, it was definitely a lot safer than it had been the night before. Claire left school and headed home, feeling icky and grimy and desperately wanting a shower and change of clothes. After she'd accomplished both, she headed out to her car again, texting Joshua on the way.

Who: Dean and Joshua
Where: Joshua's place
When: Early afternoon

Dean was officially bricking himself. In what world had he thought this was a good idea? In what world had he volunteered to go round and tell the guy with a guardian-fucking-angel that he was dating his ex-girlfriend? Oh, right - in the world where it was the 'right-fucking-thing to do'. Damn him and his fucking rules, he didn't want to have them, he wanted to just go and hide and pretend Joshua didn't exist and nothing was going on. He could do that, right?

Wrong. He knew he couldn't - which was why, when he'd heard school was letting out early, he'd texted the guy and arranged to come round. And round he'd come, which was the reason he was standing outside his apartment door, and had been for the last few minutes, trying to get up the courage to knock. He wouldn't blame Joshua if the guy took this really fucking badly, Dean knew he himself would, he'd mentally prepared for the worst - but that didn't mean he was looking forward to the possibility of worlds of pain. He was a coward when it came to pain.

Fuck. Taking a breath, he knocked, and tried to assume an outward attitude that didn't look automatically like a kicked puppy screaming 'don't hurt me!'

Who: Syn and Seph
When: afternoonish
Where: the Martens house

Seph had the afternoon off, even though he could've done with working. He'd been stuck inside all damn day yesterday, and hadn't been looking forward to it again. Funny how when he couldn't really leave the house, he wanted to, but was just fine lazing around and not doing anything on clear days. Just one of those things. Those cat-things. It had stopped snowing and the roads were being cleared, but he was still home, letting that restless feeling build. He sent his thoughts out to his sister, somewhere else in the house, trying to make trudging through knee-deep snow look tantalizing. In the meantime, a good song came on his stereo and he twisted on the bed to aim the remote to turn it up. Then proceeded to play air-guitar in his boneless-bed-flopped position.

"So wash your vice away with dirt," he sang along with James Hetfield, with eye-squeezy feeling. "It don't feel good until it hurts. So take this work and shake it! Come squeeze and suck the day, come carpe diem, babyyyyy!"

The Clunker has Clunked out.

pay attention

Yes, The Clunker bites the dust. Or the snow. Whichever. Beloved(ish) sub-compact has put-put-puttered its last. In retrospect, should not have expected it to survive the weather. Will need to figure out new mod of transportation.

Huzzah, mass transit.

Good Night

default user pic

Who: Claire and Gabe
When: Late late/early?
Where: The library

It wasn't the most comfortable place to sleep, being in the library, but it was definitely the place Claire preferred. At least over choosing between the gym and auditorium. She hadn't been able to sleep very well anyway, given she was in school, but thankfully she had Gabe there to keep her company... despite what had happened at his house the night before. Things could have been weird, but luckily they didn't feel too weird, and he was still with her rather than in the gym, for which she was grateful. It probably would have been worse trying to sleep alone.

Gabe had just returned from chatting with Lauren, having given in to his need to wander a bit and now ready to settle down for the night. He and Claire had set up a little pallet in the corner of the library, where it was quiet and seemingly safe, even if Gabe wasn't sure what he was protecting her from. It just felt necessary, considering the circumstances. "You're still awake," Gabe said, coming over to take a seat beside her on the floor. It didn't really surprise him if she couldn't sleep. Gabe wasn't having an easy time of it himself, hence the little walk he'd taken.

TIME UPDATE

oldphoto tree

Date: Tuesday, November 6th 2007

Weather: The snowfall slows and stops in the hours before dawn, allowing the snowplows to get out and start to clear the roads. The day remains grey and overcast, but there's no further snowfall.

Events: The town's opening back up, but crews are out clearing the roads all day. Some establishments are still closed and some places have had their roofs fall in from sheer weight of snow.

The roads are clear enough to send everyone home by late morning and school is let out for the day then. There are no other major events.

If you have any events or anything going on which you think warrants a mention in the time update, please let us know!
