New Best Friends

default user pic

Who: Gabe and Kaysen
Where: The streets of Marquette
When: After school

Gabe had been saving money for a car. He'd been saving, but he wasn't quite there. It sucked being a senior without a car, and it would suck even more by the time winter came around. Though he'd already gotten it in his head that he should pick up a part time job, he hadn't found one yet, and until then he had to deal with other ways to get around. So long as the sidewalks were clear, his roller blades were what he had to work with, and so Gabe headed in the direction of home, mind wandering as he skated along.

Kaysen was already halfway across the parking lot with her skateboard, sort of in her own little world as per usual. Kaysen-land didn't include that many people, really, and the less she had to do with anyone in school the better. Either way, she was kind of half thinking about stupid Chrissy today and what she might be able to do to get back at the wench, and she heard something else wheel-based sort of half behind her, and she glanced back, half wondering if it was Chance. Sadly, it was not.

Bad Day, Part Ten: The Last Scene

Who: Brian and Domino
Where: The house
When: About seven

Between people to visit, Brian had done a lot of thinking. He had a few options ready, now, depending on what Domino said and wanted to do. He knew what he hoped would happen... but he knew what was more likely, too-- and he told himself he wasn't going to be disappointed. He was going to be understanding and work with whatever happened. And he was not going to wimp out and cry.

Leaving Times Three

Who: Corwin and Ivan
Where: Ivan's house
When: Not too long after sunset

Though he was still nervous, and still glancing around him ever time the van wasn't in motion, Corwin felt... a little bit better about everything. Delilah was coming with him. She'd be safe, he'd be able to look after her, and he didn't have to leave her behind. He swung by Shannon's house to pick up his drawing, tucking it safely away for Eric to see when he came back, but then he had another person he really needed to say goodbye to in person: Ivan.

Corwin pulled the van to a stop in front of Ivan's house, but again, he took a long moment to look around suspiciously before he got out and hurried up to knock. He was pretty sure Ivan would be home; someone with that many stitches wasn't going to be out and about much.

Who: Brian to Hunt
When: 3:30ish

Hey, man. It's Brian again. Just wanted to say... hope you're doing okay. I'm going to be going out of town. My mother's sick, and-- just wanted to say I'll miss you, man. Even if you won't, or don't, or-- whatever you're doing now. Just give me a call sometime, if you want. My cell number's not changing. So I know you're still alive and shit, and-- fuck. Just call sometime.

Bad Day, Part Seven

green side downlook

Who: Brian and Ash
Where: The phone
When: Late afternoon

The list was slowly running down, and Brian was feeling the strain of trying to keep his emotions in check. He was, at his heart, an emotional kind of person-- he'd just learned long ago that it was a very bad idea to let that get the better of him. When he started feeling the edges of short circuit, saying his goodbyes to Jennifer, one of the cooks from the diner, he started moving to the phone.

At least he had Ash's phone number.

Sitting in his truck out on the edge of town, with the radio on but down low, he dialed it in. Good thing it wasn't early morning this time. Maybe Ash would even be awake.

Leaving. Times Two.

Who: Corwin and Delilah
Where: Delilah's house
When: Just after sundown

There were a couple people Corwin had to say goodbye to in person. He had to pick and choose-- but in the end, it wasn't all that hard to do. First and foremost, he drove the packed-up van up to Delilah's house, collecting cats along the way as they came to his silent call from various places and posts around town. The cat-alarm system wouldn't exactly do a lot of good if he were too far away to come to the rescue.

Not that he'd done a whole lot of good at that, anyway....

Who: Hannah and Seph
Where: Texts, then the woods
When: After dark

Two down, one to go. The biggest one to go. Hannah had thought long and hard about Seph before she'd made the decision she'd made. It would benefit everyone around, she thought. So sat in the Bronco outside Park Cemetery and sent him a text.

Yo. Can I pick you up somewhere? Wanna show you something.

Seph only knew he had a text because the phone happened to be in his pocket, and he always had it set to vibrate. His music was too loud to hear it. He pulled it out and skimmed the message. Tossing a glance up to the shadowy figure on the wall, he thumbed in a response. Sure. Where? Everything ok?

Lectures Can Wait

default user pic

Who: Dorian and Mathias
Where: Cell phones via car and train
When: Evening

It hadn't been all that difficult to hop on a train, but it had been a pain in the ass staying on one that was going the direction Dorian wanted to go. Seeing as how he hadn't actually bought a ticket, he rode in the carrier cars, along with whatever was being transported across the continent. Sometimes the trains would stop, at which point he'd jump on another, hoping to get to his destination faster.

Spotting his tracker was easy, as the demon had to jump from train to train to keep up. Dorian pretended not to notice, and the demon kept his distance. He assumed there would be more to follow, that the bulk of them were all two steps behind, probably traveling by much more conventional means. While he still had a long way to go, Dorian was finally at a point where he could relax, and he opened his phone, this time dialing up his older brother.

It was wonderful being back home after the chaos had died down. The minute the shadows had begun appearing, Regan had taken off, enjoying the sights and tastes of a nearby city while Marquette struggled yet again for survival. Regan figured she was fairly smart - running before the real violence began, and then returning when it died away and people were left to pick up the pieces.

Who: Jules & Sasha
When: 8pm Berlin time/1pm Marquette time
Where: Phone

No extended trip. Thank god. Jules was in her hotel room now, having finished going over the itinerary for the next day with Derek. Sprawling out across her bed she reached for her cell phone on the nightstand and found Sasha in her contacts. She owed him a call to let him know when she'd be back in town and thankfully tomorrow night she would be. She highlighted his number and pressed the talk button and propped the phone between her shoulder and her ear, listening to the steady ringing.

Sasha was in his living room, waiting for Sammy to give him a ring, when the phone started buzzing. It was far too early for Sammy to be calling, so he was a bit curious as he picked it up. He peered at it, saw Jules' number and flipped it open. "Hey."

Who: Lucius & Marlowe
When: 8:30pm
Where: Marlowe's house

Lucius found himself in front of Marlowe's house pacing and contemplating whether or not he should even bother going up to the door at all. His fingers were clutched around the vase of wildflowers he'd gotten at the flower store so tightly that his knuckles were slowly turning white. He sighed and let all of the events from the day wash through his body hoping to let everything just drift away so he could talk to Marlowe, hopefully getting somewhere without being more of an ass. He was the one that hurt her, he'd been the jerk and walked away, he was the one that didn't listen to what she had to say before flipping out. It was his job to fix this.

He sighed and turned towards the door, finally gathering up the courage to climb the steps to her porch and knock. He squeezed his eyes shut for a moment as he waited for her to come to the door, half expecting her to look out the window, see him and completely ignore that he was there. Letting his eyes flicker open again, he stared at the door.

Making Friends of the Garden Variety

default user pic

Who: Chelo & Lucius
When: 7pmish
Where: The Garden Party

Funny how a simple phone call could really change so much. His mood lately hadn't exactly been sunshine and fucking rainbows, but now with Hannah headed out of town he wasn't exactly a happy camper. He hadn't made many friends in this town and losing Hannah now that they were getting close wasn't exactly hitting him easily. Along with the thoughts of Hannah were those of Marlowe and the advice that Isabella had given him about getting some flowers and parking his butt at her house. He was still walking around aimlessly and he happened to glance up and find himself in front of a flower shop called 'The Garden Party'. He smiled to himself as he thought about Isabella asking if flowers would fix him and Marlowe and finding himself in front of this shop at this moment seemed to be some sort of sign. "What the hell." he mumbled as he pulled the door open and headed inside. The entire room was littered with flowers of every sort. He ambled through them and up to the woman standing behind the counter. "Please tell me that you can help me find some flowers that'll say something like 'Hey I'm a jerk, please take me back anyway'."

Who: Alexis and Thom
When: lunch hour
Where: the music room

Though it was over a month into the school year, Alexis hadn't found her own group yet, and grabbing a table at lunch still felt awkward. Usually she was better at it than this, but with all the weird happenings in town, she'd ended up staying on the outside longer than usual. Rather than sit alone, or crash someone else's party, she wandered to the music room. When signing up for school, they'd asked her to pick a fine art's elective and choir had been her selection-- she'd never learned to play an instrument, but singing could be somewhat self taught.

The main room was empty, but that didn't mean the practice rooms were, and Alexis was quickly drawn to one from which music came in loud complementary chords. The door was just barely open and she slid in quietly, hoping not to disturb the music as she watched the boy who played. She'd seen him around school, but in a school this size, it was hard not to notice everyone in passing.

Scared to Shout

default user pic

Who: Peyton and Geo
Where: Peyton's house
When: Sometime between ten and eleven, immediately following Vigil.

Geo finally had to admit flying wasn't doing much good anymore. His wings were sore, and his eye was starting to ache from trying so hard to see at night. He shifted his talons on the strap of his backpack, letting the places he'd seen dance on the edges of his mind. He'd gotten a little bit better since things started going mad; a tiny bit better at the not forgetting places quite so quickly, but...he was slightly worried about pressing his luck, and he didn't really want two hours of work to go flying off into the ethereal nether.

He was closer, he realized, to Peyton's house than he was to his house. With that thought, he shifted directions, setting out towards the Marsh's house, mind still burning with thoughts and questions and ideas that threatened to escape before he could get somewhere to write them down. He ground his beak shut tighter, and redoubled his efforts, speeding up over the glowing lights of the houses below.

Phone Call of Bad News

default user pic

Who: Hannah and Lucius
Where: The phone
When: 6:31PM, on the dot

Well, the chat with Chance could've gone better, but it could've gone worse, too. She was actually going to miss that guy. Maybe she'd be able to come back before too long, and see him again. Take him on that promised hunt before his whole town went to shit. One down, two more to go, and Lucius, by necessity, had to come first. So she lay on her back in the dry loam out in the woods, her car parked not far away, and stared up at the branches with their colorful leaves while his cell phone rang and she waited for him to pick up.

Lucius was just leaving Isabella's house when his cell rang. He pulled it out of his pocket and saw Hannah's name on the caller id. Flipping it open he smiled into the receiver. "Hey you, what's up?" he questioned as he continued down the road. He was thankful to have a bit of a distraction from his thoughts, even if just for moments.

Geo Williams was sneaking out of the house.

It felt like forever since the last time he'd done that - since the last time he'd needed to sneak. He hadn't needed to most of the time when his parents were alive. And it hadn't been long enough to learn all the places where the hall creaked, all the places that the stairs shifted if he stepped on them. It was making him paranoid.

At the last bell, Isaac was more than ready to get the hell out of school. He slung his backpack over his shoulder and hurried out of the classroom, trying not to look at any of the weary zombie-faces around him. Nobody was really at the top of their game today, at least not that he'd seen. But it wasn't his problem. He wanted his girlfriend. Isaac made his way through the halls to Peyton's locker, sure that she'd stop off there before heading home. He wanted to walk her, and maybe go home with her. His mind was weighed down with what Kaysen had told him. Not to mention every other fucking little thing. It was one of those days that demanded girlfriend-time. Hell, maybe she could use some cuddling too. So he got to her locker and waited for her, eyes scanning the crowd.

Who: Helen and Sammy
Where: The kitchen
When: While Marek's at Babylon, around 8.

The sun had gone down and had taken with it Sammy’s ability to stay in denial. Hands immersed in soapy water he stared silently out the window, fingers resting on the bottom of the sink, no longer searching for the plug as he remained caught up in his thoughts which spun through his mind like people stuck moving through a revolving door with no way out. Herbert was leaving – had probably already left – because his dad was in the hospital. Corwin was gone – true, he’d left his key, but that wasn’t the same as having someone to talk to – because a hunter had come after him. His parents were dead, and that was the worst part. People were leaving in one way or another left and right, and who knew wh– he wasn’t going to think about it. He could go back into denial without a look over his shoulder. It was safer there. Nothing could brain him over the head with thoughts that bordered on emo there. He pulled the plug.

He punched the number in carefully, sitting on the grass in one of the parks around town, and hoped she picked up.

Who: Isabella and Lucius
When: 6pm-ish
Where: Streets of Marquette

Isabella was not a fan of fast food. Perhaps she had lived on it way too much in college, or on her travels, but since becoming a successful writer, she was used to finer things, like steak and expensive wine. Marquette was not full of top tier restaurants, so she found herself cooking her own meals, sitting down at her table and eating alone. Which wasn't as depressing as it sounded. She was used to being on her own, and except for the random spurts of time where her hormones told her differently, Isabella was perfectly content in her life.

She'd gotten to torture Kaysen earlier at lunch and now here was Claire all alone like a single deer all alone and unaware of the wolf in the forest ready to pounce. She took the opportunity without a second thought, hurrying towards the girl with all the stealth of a ninja. The art of surprise working for her as she fell instep beside Claire, unnoticed. "Hello, you." she blurted, purposely giving the words a sharp and pointy edge, hoping to startle the girl.

Who: Harper and Herbert

Harper was in the stacks again, her last customer had been about ten minutes ago and she was back to organizing the store. She was now two-thirds of the way done with the book part. Her arm hurt less today- which was a good sign, although she kept telling herself that she needed to get back to the doctor to have him look at it after the mad window breaking she did on Friday. As she finished up another row she smiled a little, her mind wandering yet again to her dinner the previous night, and whether or not she should call Xander.

Work probably should have come before Geo, Herbert realized belatedly, as he was coasting up to the familiar bookstore. He stopped in front of it for a moment, looking up at the sign blankly, before sighing, locking his bicycle up at the usual spot, and heading inside. He was two hours early for his shift... and really, he ought to have called her earlier. He just wasn't thinking straight today. "Harper?" he called, when he didn't see her immediately, but knew from her scent that she was in the store somewhere.

First in the round of goodbyes he had to make was Isabella. Brian pulled the truck up to the front of her house and sat inside, staring at the door to the sounds of Alan Jackson on the radio. Would she forgive him for running out on Hunt? Would she be able to handle Hunt on her own? Would she be glad he'd have to leave Domino behind? He knew she'd miss him, he wasn't that self-pitying, but he felt like he had to leave with so much left undone.

With a sigh, he climbed out of the truck and started up the walk to knock on the door.

There were people to talk to, that much was certain, but he'd catch them as he could.
