Reno Burke
Name: Reno Susannah Burke
Age: 21
Sex: female
PB: Julia Styles
Appearance: She's tallish for a girl, about 5'9" or 5'10", and has a willowy figure that she does little to accentuate. She tends to slouch, since she feels more skinny and lanky than graceful. With distinctive features (that she also doesn't appreciate) and a smile that brightens her whole face, she's attractive, but not model-beautiful. Which is just fine with her. Her eyes are an intelligent hazel, and though she takes care of herself health-wise and has resigned herself to eyebrow-plucking, makeup is rarely seen on her face. She dresses in stylish, but not trendy clothes, opting mostly for flared jeans, boots, and vaguely hippie-ish clothing. When she's not wearing greasy coveralls. She has a couple tasteful tattoos, a ring on nearly every finger, and a pendant on a small chain that she wears 24/7. Long medium blond hair with a natural wave to it.
Special abilities:
Aside from what she can do with her mind, Reno is good with the written word and mechanics. Perhaps an odd combination, but she can write a sonnet as well as she can fix a radiator, and she likes it that way. The balance between the dreamy and the hands-on. She can also walk on her hands pretty well.
Supernatural Affinity:
Species/Group: Psychic
Power(s): Telekinesis, Teleportation
Level: 'Kinesis - 3, 'Portation - 2
Personality: Reno is a very strong woman, though it tends to come out more as cynicism. She observes the world with the most objectivity she can muster, though it often doesn't work out that way. She's easily frustrated with people and things in equal measure. And when she blows her top? Look out. She inherited her mother's Irish temper. Most days, she's nice enough, though some people find her aloof and mistake her attitude for snobbery. This is definitely not the case, as she thinks most everyone is equally capable of being an ass or a saint. They're just more likely to be the former. She's very intelligent and analytical, and feels most comfortable in an intellectual crowd or by herself. Usually by herself, since most people act like fucktards. (She also curses like a sailor.) Most things girls her age like bore her; she'd rather write about life or tinker around in an engine compartment than go to parties. Though she has been known to dabble in drugs every now and then, to explore or relax. She's a very introspective person (even though you wouldn't guess it) and knows herself very well, which shows itself in a confident attitude toward most everything.
History:
She did decently enough in school, always more concerned with her own studies than what the teachers were attempting to show her. The only subject she excelled in was English, and was active in the theater in high school. When she was getting along with everyone, that was. Which was fairly rare. She didn't have a long list in the way of boyfriends, mostly by her own choice, but did run with a bunch of friends she'd decided she could tolerate. When Reno was about seventeen, her mother died very suddenly. The doctors said it was a brain aneurysm. The grief sobered Reno up quite a bit. She felt that now, outside of the loss itself, she had to step up and take care of her father. Smoking two packs a day had earned him a disturbing cough that he refused to see a doctor about.
It was during this time that her powers began to awaken. They were erratic at first, emerging in small ways ... a pen that had been across the room suddenly was next to her hand when she looked up. She would wake up under the bed. For a time, she was quietly convinced that she was losing her mind. She didn't tell anyone about it, worried that they'd lock her up. Bit by bit, Reno began to experiment, to see if she could control it. It was a slow road, but she started to develop in strength. Always keeping it to herself, because ... yeah, they poked and prodded people like her, didn't they? They would take her away from her dad.
She graduated, and went straight into helping with the shop. The old man was getting steadily weaker, and had never had a touch for paperwork. So Reno became a permanent fixture in the shop. She handled customers and slowly started to take over a lot of the actual mechanical work. She was good at it, having being raised around it. And if she couldn't reach something? When she was sure no one was watching, her telekinesis came in handy.
Weaknesses:
-Lack of Control -- When Reno gets really upset? Things tend to fly around the room. Sharp things, blunt things, possibly into people's heads. It's rather dangerous, depending on her location. Whatever you do, don't piss her off at work, what with all the tools and y'know ... one-ton engines and stuff.
-Patience -- Being that she has none. If something doesn't work when she thinks it should? It irks her. If someone stutters a lot or takes their damn time writing a check? Cue annoyance. She can be sharp and clipped with people without really intending to, it's just that ... well ... she's got better shit to do with her time than sit around and wait for you. Yes, it's rude to sigh a lot and eye roll, but she doesn't care. She's something of a perfectionist when it comes to her shop, and she can't stand to let anyone else do any of the paperwork.
-Strangeness -- Every time Reno is in the same room as a digital clock, it will automatically change to 10:33. They can be set back to normal if someone notices, but will not revert to their normal time once she leaves if left untampered with. She has no idea why. It annoys her to no end -- in no small part because it's very weird for other people to witness -- and she can't abide having a digital clock in her house. This is a small inconvenience at the houses of friends, a big ruckus at the airport.
Strengths:Reno's got a good head for business. She's very self-reliant (mostly out of necessity), and has a lot of common sense. For those that she cares about, she's the most dependable person in the world.
