Bestfriend Meets Boyfriend

Who: Ransom and Madock
Where: School
When: Just before Lunch

Madock left his classroom and headed off in the direction of the lunchroom. Jessalyn wanted him to sit with her today and he had absolutely no problems with that what so ever. On the route to the cafeteria though, he spotted Ransom. Or who he thought was Ransom at least. Jessa had told him where the kid worked and he thought that was the same guy. Pretty sure. Okay, so best thing to do is just tap the guy's shoulder right? So he did. "Hey." he said with a grin. "Ransom, right? I'm supposed to meet you at lunch. Or something. Yeah... hi." Great first impression goofball.

Ransom didn't expect to be meeting anyone at lunch, or he'd forgotten, if he'd been told. Still, he smiled at the guy and did his best to try and remember. "Hey, nice to meet you," he said, continuing towards the lunch room. "So, who am I meeting?" he asked. If he had a name, he was sure he could figure out the connection.

Your name idiot! "Oh, yeah... crap. I'm Madock." he smiled. "Jessalyn's... boyfriend?" God, he sounded almost confused when he said that word. "Yeah. Hi. Well maybe you weren't supposed to meet me, but Jessalyn wanted me to meet you or something. So hi, I'm Madock."

"Oh, yeah! No, I wanted to meet you. I just didn't know when," Ransom grinned. "And I think you're her boyfriend. Or she talks like you're her boyfriend. I think. But then she talks a lot, so... How are you?" He decided now would be the time to shut his mouth, otherwise he couldn't get to know the guy. It'd be the other way around.

"Well, I kinda asked her to be my girlfriend, so I guess that makes me her boyfriend, maybe. But she's a girl sooo that might change like at any time." he smiled. "But, yeah, I'm good. You?" he asked, taking a step in the direction of the lunchroom, since that's where they'd both be headed anyway.

"That makes you her boyfriend," Ransom agreed with a nod. "And, even if it might change, I think she'll tell you if it does. Or you'll just know." He wasn't an expert on relationships by any means, but he was pretty sure a change like that constituted a break up. "I'm pretty good. Wondering when this snow is gonna stop." And he was talking about the weather... fabulous.

"Well hopefully it doesn't change." he smiled. "Pretty sure it won't for a while at least. I hope. But yeah. Snow. Lots of snow. Not used to the snow still." Madock said. And boy he wasn't used to it. California wasn't cold like this. It could get cold, but never like this. "So, Jess says that you guys have known each other like forever."

"Yeah, Marquette's good for the snow," Ransom said. "Where'd you move from? Someplace warmer, I'm assuming?" Which could be just about anywhere, especially as they moved into winter. "Jessalyn and I have known each other since we were in diapers," he laughed. "Pre-grade school, even. As close as to forever as we can get, so I think of her as a sister. Can't hurt to add one more to the count."

"California." Madock nodded. "And yeah, she said you had a big family. Kinda like mine." he smiled. "There are eleven of us kids all together in my family." he explained. "Everyone's usually like 'oh my god, so many kids'."

"Dude, I'm one of nine," Ransom laughed. "I know how you feel. I can't imagine trying to move with so many. I mean, I've never moved at all, so maybe it doesn't matter, but that's still gotta be hard. Are you at the older end or the younger?" He knew that Madock had a little sister, Breezy, but she wasn't exactly young.

"I'm actually smack dab in the middle. Five older, five younger." he smiled. "And it's not so bad really. Some of us are already outta the house and everything so it wasn't like moving with eleven kids and our parents. But it was still a major hassle. Tons of stuff to get shifted from there to here." he shrugged. "You're lucky getting to stay in one place."

"We're about the same then. I've only got two older, and they've moved out, so I'm the oldest still at home," Ransom said. "Moving just... wouldn't work. We're kind of rooted in here. But it's home, and it's what we know, so no complaints." Moving would taking finding a new place with pack land, and would likely displace already formed packs. It was just too hard, which was why Ransom saw himself living in Marquette for the rest of his life.

Madock nodded as he pushed through the lunchroom doors. "Yeah. I wish we'd find some roots. We move a lot. Maybe I'll find those roots here." he said. He hoped so. He wished that the family would just stay in one place and figure out things there, but he was fairly certain that moving day would come again eventually. It always did.

"Why do you move around so much?" Ransom asked as they entered the lunchroom. Until Madock had mentioned it, he'd thought that maybe California had been a long time home. Now it sounded like they were hopping around, which had to be even more difficult with that many people. Even if the elder half was gone, it was still a big family.

Because my parents have to search for people for us to marry, Madock thought, but he definitely wasn't going to say that. "Guess my parents just get bored." he said with a little smile. "We were in California for a while though, so I guess I really can't complain."

Ransom couldn't imagine moving due to boredom, and wondered if there wasn't more to it, but that Ransom wasn't willing to talk about it. Maybe he'd ask Jessalyn later, since he didn't feel like pushing. "So, what's the biggest difference in living here, besides the cold?"

Madock shrugged. "It's not really all that different. I mean, different faces and stuff like that. But still school and home and all that. Same thing, different town is all."

Ransom was surprised that Madock didn't say something about the crazy things that happened in Marquette, but maybe that was too obvious to mention. "I just wasn't sure if the other places were small town. I know I sometimes wonder what it would be like to live in a city, but I think I like the countryside too much. Fresh air and all that."

Madock nodded. "Yeah, I like the small townness here." he smiled. "It's not... too small town ya know? No countrymen jumping out of trees and stuff. Weird stuff yes, but not... that bad." he chuckled. "So uh... where do you guys sit?" he questioned, glancing around the cafeteria.

Ransom almost laughed, and he did grin. He'd met Drea while she was in a tree, and he'd met Charlotte under a tree. He wondered if either of those were similar to jumping out of trees, but didn't ask. "Usually over here," Ransom said, leading the way. "Glad you could join us today." He'd been wanting to meet Madock for a while and was relieved to see that he seemed to be a good guy.

"Me too." Madock said with a smile. He liked Ransom. He seemed like a pretty cool guy and he could understand why Jessalyn was such good friends with him. "Now to wait on my girl and see how long it takes for her to make me blush." he chuckled. Knowing Jessalyn, that wouldn't take long.
