Can I get a lift maybe?

Who: Alexis and Nate
Where: MSHS, after History class
When: Immediately after last class

Thursday was one day closer to the bonfire and Alexis was just about to burst. She couldn't wait for the event to start, and the only thing better than that was planning the details needed to get it underway. She'd run into only one hitch in her plans, that being her mode of transportation. Kyle had suggested talking to Nate, and so when the bell rang to end History, she grabbed her books and headed over to his desk before he could leave the room. "You have a few?" she asked, glad it was the end of the day. At least they didn't have to rush off to another class.

"Hey," Nate said and carefully put his backpack over his shoulder. His good shoulder. "Yeah, what's up?" He asked, suspecting this was about the bonfire. Or at least he hoped it was about the bonfire and not Kavin's dilemma. On top of his list of priorities right now was smoking, but he could take time out. Maybe it had to do with the planning, he was supposed to be a part of this whole thing, in theory at least. A thing he wasn't quite used to, being involved in the planning stages.

"I was hoping you could help me out," Alexis said, giving him an apologetic smile. "I've got everything planned, Kyle's gonna help me set the fire and all, but we realized that neither of us has a ride, which means neither of us has a way to get the firewood on location. You wouldn't happen to have room in your car for me and Kyle and a bit of firewood, would you?" It was rambling on her part, which she knew was due to the fact that she'd put this off and was now worried about it. She should have called Nate last night, but time had slipped away from her and then it had seemed too late.

"Oh uhm, I could try to get the van," Nate said, biting his lip as he thought about it. "Frank's got a jeep now so he shouldn't need it. I kinda promised Medea and her sister a ride already. How much firewood are we bringing? Might be able to fit you all in the car or just go two trips - if I don't get the van. I'll talk to the old man tonight." He offered her a smile once he was finally done thinking out loud. "Invited a lot of people already?"

"If you don't mind," Alexis said, feeling bad about asking now. If she had an alternative, she'd jump on it, but she didn't really want to ask her dad for a ride. She wasn't sure how he'd react to all the kids getting together around fire. It was different than what she was used to doing, that was certain. "I have," she grinned. "I talked to Charlie, who's bringing some friends, and Kyle, of course, and Lily and Breezy-- though Breezy knew since she's been helping plan it. And we talked to a few girls on the dance team. If you know anyone else that wants to come, invite 'em along!"

"I've invited a few people," Nate replied with a small grin. "Not enough guys though, sorry about that." In fact he'd failed spectacularly at the guy thing now that he thought about it. He'd joked about it to Nic but really, who had he invited? Nic, Leija, Medea and her sister... None of them were guys. Kavin wasn't coming, or he doubted it, since he was in heavy withdrawals so yeah, only girls. What a player. "You'll have to rely on Kyle for guys."

"Go you!" she teased lightly with a grin. "I've told Kyle to invite a few of the guys on the hockey team, though I don't think you'll have an issue with being outnumbered." Most guys wouldn't, at least. "I'm gonna see if maybe I can get the car," Alexis said, just in case. "It's doubtful, but it's worth a try. I just don't want my dad driving me, so I'll let you know if I succeed or not. Catch you later?"

"Yeah you have my number," Nate replied with an easy smile. "I can probably get the van, I'm old enough that my dad won't care where I'm going." If he even did when Nate was younger. "It's not the most comfortable ride but it'd mean a bigger bonfire." And now he was picturing a huge fucking fire, like they'd light up on Halloween or something. Great.

Alexis grinned, relieved to have an option if she couldn't pull off getting the car for the night. It really depended on what her father was up to, if he needed to be working a job or not. "Thanks," she smiled. "I really, really appreciate it. I'll let you know before tomorrow morning." Which meant she'd need to talk to her father tonight. It was a conversation she wasn't really looking forward to, but she had to start somewhere. He probably needed to be clued in that she was now having a social life.

"Yeah just let me know before tomorrow night," Nate replied. "Don't want to go around picking people up and, yeah... Nobody there or whatever." He grinned. "Otherwise you know, don't worry about it. You may be really appreciating it or whatever but it doesn't matter to me what I'm driving. Though I might end up walking home or something so don't count on a ride back."

"It's the ride there that matters," Alexis laughed, letting him get back to gathering his stuff so they could both go home. She didn't mind walking home with Kyle, so long as they could get there with the firewood--something they definitely wouldn't be walking there with. It was the one last little detail she needed taken care of, and she'd have it handled by the end of the night one way or another.
