Care Package Delivery
Who: Domino and Olivia
When: Mid-Afternoon
Where: Her place
Domino was happy to be out of the house for a bit without having to worry about Brian at home or himself being attacked by shadows. He also wanted to make sure his friends were ok. Sure Brian had told him that he'd spoken to Olivia, but he wanted to see for his own eyes. So he packaged up a little of the lunch Brian had made (which he made plenty of in his desire to cook after not for so many days) and headed out. He only vaguely knew where Olivia lived- having never actually being there before- but with directions from Brian he managed without too much trouble.
Domino was wearing light blue jeans that were worn through a bit on one of the knees and very frayed at the ankles (naturally not bought pre-damaged) and a black Batman T-shirt. He reached up and knocked on the door, holding the piece of Tupperware in his other hand.
Assuming it was Judiel, Olivia answered the door with a bright smile on her face. When she saw it was Domino, she blinked in surprise by the eagerness didn't wane. Olivia stepped back and motioned for him to enter. "Hey! Come in... what are you doing here? How are things?"
"I come bearing foodstuffs." He said, holding out the container to her as he stepped inside. "An' t' make sure that y' were in one piece f'myself." Domino replied with a grin. He, himself, probably looked a little worse than he was with a wrap on his lower arm covering one of the scratches- the others had healed enough that they didn't need a wrap but were still visible. He also had a nice scratch on his cheek.
"I'm a big fan of food stuffs." Olivia took the container from him and shut the door with her free hand. "And yes, one piece, more or less. Most of the scratches are healing." She grinned a bit, seeing as they had identical scratches on their cheeks. She was really hoping hers wouldn't scar. "I see you're doing okay too. You want some coffee?"
Domino nodded. "Would love some. And y'really have t'thank Brian for the food, I'm just the delivery boy." He laughed a little. "Nice place y'got here." He said, looking around curiously.
"It's kind of sparse, but I guess it works," Olivia told him, motioning for Domino to follow her to the kitchen. She placed the food on the counter and got to making coffee. "I don't even really have a bed yet. The couch was used, and the television and game thingy my boyfriend gave me. As long as the fridge is stocked with food, I don't think Herbert minds it so much - not having a lot of furniture and everything."
"Doesn't make it any less nice of a place. Furniture is just stuff, I mean before I moved into Brian's the only furniture -I- owned was a bed and dresser, and even that was bought from a yard sale." He laughed a little, following. "Everything else was Fawns."
Olivia laughed. "Well, I'm used to not having much, so the fact that I have a couch and a blender is good enough for me right now. How's that going, by the way? Living with Brian?" She had already talked to Brian, but she was curious to see what Domino's take on it was.
Dom leaned against the wall of the kitchen and nodded a little. "It's good. Strange, but good." He replied. "Been kinda stressful recently that I've not much of a chance to actually enjoy it yet." What with the shadows attacking so soon after he moved in. "Not used t'actually havin' a home."
"It's nice isn't it?" She shot him a smile. "At least having a roof over your head. And having some place you can call your own in a way. I'm sure it'll take some adjusting, but it'll be worth it in the end, living with Brian." Olivia got down two cups for the coffee.
"Y'sound so sure." He said with a grin. "But I'm sure y'r right. So, 'nough 'bout me." Yes, those words did come out of Domino's mouth. "Tell me 'bout y'r guy. How's things goin'? Y'getting' on alright?" He asked with a coy grin, wanting her to dish.
"It's... good?" Olivia took the newly brewed coffee off of the burner and began to pour. "I mean, we just got back together, and it was sort of in the midst of the shadow stuff, so I guess we'll see. I don't know where it's going to go, or anything like that, but I'm tired of worrying so much about the future. Might as well enjoy him now, right?"
"That's my mantra." Domino said with a chuckle. Of course Brian was more the 'worry about the future' type so Dom did think about it at times. "I mean if y' keep worryin' 'bout things t'come then when're y'ever gonna enjoy life?" The coffee smelled good.
"I'm trying to enjoy it as I can." She walked over to hand him a cup and motioned for him to sit at the kitchen table with her. "Once I get comfortable enough financially, I can quit one of my jobs and enjoy it even further. As long as things don't keep happening where the whole town has to shut down for several days."
Taking the cup and sitting down Domino rolled his eyes slightly. "Yea, I swear it's like every other week the town shuts down, pretty soon some people won't be able to pay their rent at all after being out of work for so long." He took a small sip of his coffee, careful because it was still warm. "I guess that's where I'm lucky. Brian won't -let- me pay rent. "
"I can't imagine he would." Olivia nearly pointed out he was making up the rent in other ways - but that would probably sound too much like she was calling him a manwh*re, so she declined. "The diner, I make okay tips... but Babylon? When I work the evenings, especially on the weekend, I walk away with more tips than I could hope to make at the diner in a week. I keep wondering if I should just take on Babylon full time, but then I don't want to disappoint Mya or Brian."
Domino shrugged a little. "Probably crossing sides here, but I think y'should do what y'want." He told her, knowing he was probably splitting loyalties there. "Not everyone at the diner tips, or tips well… some people are plain stingy, but when y'put alcohol in the mix- like at Babylon- tips tend t'grow." He'd never been to Babylon, but he had heard about it. "A'course y've got t'be ok with workin' 'round drunks."
"I'm used to it," Olivia said dryly. "And I've been okay with it since I got here. The nice thing about Babylon is, there are no fights. No violence. I've had a few hands grab things they shouldn't be grabbing, but overall it's not a bad environment. It's just... different. I don't know. I guess I'll know what to do once I get back on my feet. But eventually I'm going to have to make a decision before I burn out."
"Well I'm not one t'guess what other's'll say, but y'know Mya and Brian 'bout as well as I do." He chuckled. "I think th'last thing they'd want it t'see y'burn out." Domino said, trying to picture where the 'grabby hands' had been grabbing.
Olivia shrugged and took a sip of the coffee. "I know. And I know they'll want what I want - or so they'll say. I'll give it another week or so. Once I can get some money saved back up, I might feel more comfortable broaching the subject. I'm used to traveling without much money to begin with, so I think I'll be okay for awhile."
Domino nodded. "I can relate, only reason I stopped was 'cause I ran out'a gas money." He chuckled. "Never figured I'd be here more than a few months, now look at me." He felt a bit of a kindred spirit in the 'traveler' in Olivia, he still wanted to venture out badly, but kept in place because of things like Brian.
She laughed. "I'm here because my ride decided this was as far as he was taking me." She was still torn between being grateful for that, and regretful. But she had more good things happening for her now, than bad. "Every now and then a part of me wants to just get some stuff together and go. There's a lot of places I still want to see, but I feel sort of... stuck. Not in a bad way. But there are people I don't want to leave."
He nodded, understanding. "I was on a trip t'cross America from New York t'California an' then head back the southern route back home. I knew I'd have t'find a way t'keep fundin' m'trip, but I never expected t'find people here."
She remembered him telling her about that, when they first began actually talking. Olivia usually just jumped from city to city, wherever her rides were headed. "Surprises happen, I suppose. That's not a bad thing either. Do you ever think about leaving and finishing the trip?"
Domino nodded. "Sometimes, yea. But then I remember why I'm stayin'." Which was so strange. "At some point I'm gonna have t'do somethin' though. "
"Oh yeah? Like what?" she asked, genuinely curious. "Go on a trip? Take a break from Marquette?"
He chuckled. "More like decide whether t'go back home… or find a way t'be here legally." Only a handful of people actually knew Domino wasn't actually allowed to be in the US anymore, now Olivia was another.
"I think you are home," she pointed out. She hadn't known Domino was in the country illegally, but she supposed it was easy for him to get away with it. "If you want to stay, you can do it legally. I guess it's your decision to make."
“Means renewin’ m’green card and explainin’ what I’ve been doin’ stayin’ here f’th’last year with an expired one.” He laughed a little. “Never thought I’d ever stay, much less want t’stay in the same place long enough t’have it matter.” Domino rested his thumbs over the rim of the mug and shrugged.
"Can't you just tell them you left, and now you want to come back?" Olivia asked. She had no idea how the whole system worked. It didn't seem like it should be that hard, but then again, the simplest things were usually the most complicated. "I guess it all depends on if you want to stay."
“Well if I go t’one o’th’border stations I’ll get nabbed ‘fore I’ve a chance t’get across t’wanna come back, but I guess I have other ways t’get across without them noticin’.” He chuckled, he could just shift and stroll across some uninhabited area, not like anyone would question a cougars national status. “Then try and get back int’America legally.” Domino shrugged, it just seemed like a lot of work. “Just claim that th’guy must not’ve stamped m’passport on m’way back through. But f’now it doesn’t really matter. Dun need anythin’ that would require me t’be legit. "
Olivia made a noise through her lips and shook her head. "You're a shifter... and you wander a lot. I doubt you need to do anything legally at this point unless you want to become a citizen. It's not like you can't hide from authorities if they come looking for you."
“So long as I find someone like Mya who’ll pay me under the counter.” He chuckled. “Anyway, enough o’that. Tell me, if y’could just up an go again, where would y’go?” Domino asked curiously.
She was going to answer Mt. Shasta, but seeing as how she was going to go there with Judi sometime soon, she didn't think it counted. "I think Vegas," Olivia replied with a smile. "I've never been, and I want to go, even if it's for a few days. A part of me considered traveling further north to Canada. Or maybe heading south to Florida and spending the winter there. Obviously things are different now, but I still have that itch in me to go."
Domino smiled back. “Y’know if y’ever want a weekend in Vegas, I’d be more’n happy t’go with y’.” He chuckled, interested himself, even if human wise he wasn’t quite old enough.
"I'll keep that in mind," Olivia said, chuckling at the thought. "Although I think if I took you to Vegas, you might not want to come back with me. All the lights, and parties and people. That seems a bit up your alley."
Domino smirked. “Yea, Marquette does seem t’have it’s shortage of raves.” He chuckled. “Or anythin’ that’s not a high school party. Maybe I need t’hang out on campus more.” He took another sip of his coffee. “A’course I could see y’bein’ the hit of the party.”
That earned an amused snicker and she rolled her eyes. "Please. I would be in the corner having a lovely conversation with myself. I've never been big on parties, and the ones I have gone to, I've definitely never been one to be the life of the party at all. Now I could see you at a college party, and I'd go with you, only to remind you that you have a boyfriend."
“You’d be the only person I’d be going home with.” Dom chuckled. “If only t’pass out on y’r floor.” To save Brian from having to deal with is partied out ass of course.
"My floor is always yours to pass out on, if that's what you need." She sipped her coffee again. "Hell, maybe sometime I'll pass out with you. It's been a long time since I've been to a party. So..." Olivia relaxed, thinking it was nice having him stop by. Being able to talk without worrying about other stuff. Normality. Even if it was only temporary, it was definitely welcome.
