Catching Up Before Class

Who: Gabe and Claire
Where: MSHS, History Class
When: Last period

Yesterday had been draining and Gabe was glad to get back to what he considered the norm. Classes had resumed and they were actually having history, rather than replacing it with a self defense class he could not participate in. He'd explained to the teacher that he'd been injured, presented a doctor's note, and got to sit it out, which was only annoying in that it actually looked like fun. On the other hand, he knew it would all do shit against a werewolf, since the school wasn't encouraging the students to carry guns. Today, it was just history, and as he came into class, he smiled at Claire. "How's it going?" he asked, taking the seat next to her, as usual.

Claire had been pretty busy the last day or so - at least in her own mind. Gabe had been a bit preoccupied mentally, which she didn't blame him for. Losing an ex - even a bitch like Chrissy - would be hard on anyone. So she had spent most of Monday and Monday evening reading up on werewolves. There were so many different mythologies out there, depending on the country, but she had a better idea now of what was going on with him - and what could happen in the future. "Same old, same old," she replied with a small smile. "Homework and stuff. How are you feeling?"

"Okay, I guess. Charlotte gave me some books, so I've been reading," Gabe said. He'd never thought that he'd stay up late reading non-fiction supernatural books, but that was currently the case. It was helping, but it was also daunting. Unfortunately, he hadn't gotten far enough yet to learn anything that he didn't already know. "This whole not-going-to-hockey-practice thing has me kind of off. I've got a lot more time than usual." This was only hard on him in that it gave him more time to think, and Gabe really didn't need more of that.

"Well, you need time to heal," she pointed out, her eyes falling to his shoulder. "You won't be any help to the team while you're in pain. Did you tell Charlotte about what happened?" If he trusted Charlotte enough to disclose the information, Claire wouldn't let herself worry. She just didn't want the wrong person finding out about Gabe. That could be very bad.

"Charlotte and Drea," Gabe nodded. "I thought they could help. They know things." He wanted to tell her that they both had supernatural powers of a sort, but if he were ever to share that with her, it wouldn't be at school. Hopefully Claire would realize he knew enough to know that it was safe with them. "And I trust them. As soon as it happened, I knew you three would be the ones I could tell," he said with a little smile."

"I would hope so." Claire smiled faintly and shifted in her seat. He was allowed to have other close friends. It wasn't like she had a like... 'copyright' on Gabe's friendship. And who cared if they were both female. He was allowed to have female friends. Claire mentally rolled her eyes at her own stupidity. Seriously, was she that much of an idiot? Refocusing on Gabe, she shifted in her seat to face him. "How did they take it? Could they tell you anything useful?"

"Um... Charlotte said it was important to work on my temper," Gabe said, trying not to cringe. That was going to be the biggest problem, staying out of fights. Gabe told himself he could do it, now that there were different stakes, but it was still something that made him nervous. "They were both helpful, but you're the only one I got to nap with," he added with a flirtatious little smile. It was definitely more fun to flirt than talk about (or around, considering where they were) his adventures in lycanthropy.

Claire had read that a temper issue was a bad thing for cursed werewolves as well. She could just imagine Gabe getting into a fight at school and starting to turn... yeah, that would be a very, very bad thing. She smiled at him. "I think working on the temper thing is a good idea. You have a really big reason to count to ten now before throwing a punch, right?" Her cheeks burned just a smidge when he mentioned them napping together - she still couldn't believe she'd fallen asleep on his couch - but she knew there was no real reason to be embarrassed. "Well, I'm glad I got to be your nap buddy. I feel so special," she teased.

"You should," Gabe grinned. "I don't take naps with just anyone, you know." He saw sleeping with someone, in any form, to be very personal, but he'd trusted Claire enough to get through it. Now, looking back, he wondered how he'd fallen to sleep at all, with his new hearing senses coming into play. It was probably exhaustion, he told himself, though he wondered if some of it was having her there and finally feeling safe. "Oh, and not that this has anything to do with naps, but do you have plans for tomorrow night?"

Claire lifted an eyebrow curiously, but grinned. "Are you asking me to nap with you tomorrow? Oh, wait, you just said it had nothing to do with naps..." She wracked her brain quickly, but couldn't think of anything she had planned. Oooh. It was Halloween. She didn't know what Josh was up to, as she hadn't heard from him. She assumed he was busy with school and work. But still... she also knew he would be stuck inside, given it was probably a dangerous night for him to go out. "I don't think I do. I might have to double check on that, but as of right now, I think I'm just planning on staying in. Why... do you want to go trick or treating?"

"Well, we could nap," Gabe laughed. "I've got no problem with that. But what I really wanted to ask was if you wanted to drop by Charlotte's Halloween party with me. I don't think it's gonna be anything huge, but I don't wanna sit at home by myself on Halloween either. If you'd rather not, we could always polish off another horror movie, but I think we're a bit old for trick or treating." The last time he'd gone, he'd still been a little old, and most of the people had told him so when giving him candy.

"Oh!" Another party. Although Charlotte didn't seem like the band-slash-kegger type, so Claire wondered if that meant it would be a more quiet party. Or at least something smaller. "I think I could probably go with you for awhile." She really needed to text Josh. "It's not a dress up thing, is it?"

"I think it's costumes optional, so if you're not in the mood, it'll be okay. I still might go as a vampire, just cause I got everything together for Kavin's party," Gabe said. He'd wanted to go to that, but after being bitten that night, it had gotten crossed off the list. At least he'd gotten to hang out with Claire that night. "I don't see it being anything wild, though. That doesn't seem like Charlotte's style."

"Maybe I'll dye my hair blue and go as a blue raspberry lollipop," Claire suggested jokingly. She didn't mind if other people dressed up, and she thought it would be amusing to see Gabe made up as a vampire - especially given what he was now. "I'll text you tonight or tomorrow about it, but I think I should be able to go for a bit. It'll be fun." At least she hoped it would be. Fun was needed after the last week in Marquette. And she knew Gabe could use a bit of a pick me up as well.

"I'll see if I can hunt you one down, so you can have a blue tongue. Then you'll taste like one too," Gabe teased. Claire was the only girl he knew that could pull off blue hair and still look good, though he thought she was prettiest when there was a mix of natural color in there. He couldn't tell her that though, or she'd likely hear that he thought she looked ugly, which definitely wasn't the case. "Awesome," Gabe smiled. Beamed, actually. He hadn't been all that sure she'd accept the invitation, so it was definitely something to look forward to.
