A civil conversation.

Who: Joshua and September.
When: Early morning.
Where: Their apartment.

Strolling into the kitchen with a tired yawn, Joshua was suprised and relieved to find September wasn't up and about yet. Following his conversation with Lulu the night before, he knew that he had to come clean with his guardian as soon as possible but that didn't mean his stomach wasn't tying itself in a knot at the very prospect of talking to her. Grabbing two mugs from the cabinet, he placed a regular tea-bag in one and a herbal one in the other before filling the kettle and switching it on. As the kettle boiled his thoughts went back to Lulu and a smile came onto his face. My girlfriend rocks he thought to himself with a goofy grin before his attention was brought back to the boiling kettle. Filling the mugs, and in the process spilling boiling water all over the worktop which he narrowly managed to avoid, he quickly mopped up the water and finished making the tea. Taking the mugs in hand, he went into the hall and gently tapped on September's door. "September, are you up?"

September was, in fact, up. She didn't want Joshua to know what she was researching yet; if nothing else, she didn't want to get his hopes up. So she'd taken to reading whatever she'd found on the subject of luck and fortune curses after Joshua was asleep, and before he woke up. Problems, of course, arose when articles were in languages September hadn't spoken - let alone read - in years. Concentrating on translating, the guardian had lost track of time - a rare event, indeed. She was lightly startled by the question, and quickly put all of her research back in her desk drawer. "Yes, sorry. Come in! Is everything alright?" She hadn't sensed anything out of the normal, but, well... asking was habit.

Using his elbow to open the door, Joshua pushed it open with his foot and headed into the room. "Everythings fine. Just thought you might like a cuppa" he replied, holding out the mug. After September accepted the cup, he perched himself on the edge of her bed, raising an eyebrow when he saw it hadn't been slept in. Turning back to his guardian, he gave her a quizical look. "Didn't you go to bed last night? I mean you do need sleep don't you?"

Do I need sleep? What am I now? Oh well. This question was much less offensive then the whole 'sort of a girl' thing, so she was willing to overlook it. She accepted the mug and sat back in her chair, wondering what had brought this on. She could be paranoid, but this seemed far too much like some of Joshua's more recent peace offerings. I haven't been that bad lately. So what's going on? "I slept." she promised him. The fact that she'd dozed at her desk was irrelevant. "I just woke up very early. And yes, I do need sleep." I just don't get much of it.

"Oh right. Thats what I figured, I was just..you know...checking" Joshua replied, busying himself with slowly turning the mug in his hands. It was too hot to drink yet but he really didn't think September would appreciate it if he wound up spilling tea all over the carpet so he made a point of being very careful with it. Of course all he was really doing was putting of the inevitable conversation so he took a deep breath before meeting September's eyes. "I need to talk to you about Lulu."

So there was a reason for this. That made September feel slightly better and almost nervous all at the same time. It was highly possible - rather, probable - that he was still worried about the demon attack, and rightly so. Demon attacks were never good things. Setting her own tea on her desk, she nodded. "Alright. What do you need to talk about?"

Okay Barclay, you can do this he told himself as he unconsciously began tapping the side of his mug. "Last night, after the movie thing at Journey's, we went back to her place and she told me...she knows what attacked her wasn't a dog." Taking another breath to steady himself, he continued. "Apparently a friend told her that monsters were real and that she should wear a religious symbol as protection." Before September could ask, he quickly added, "And no, she didn't say who this friend was."

September frowned as she took this information in. That... wasn't very specific. Now she felt like she was in a real pickle. She'd wanted to help Lulu somehow when she'd shown up injured, but had been unable to - her priority would always be Joshua. But wearing religious symbols to ward off 'monsters'? "Well, for one, that's not going to save anyone. I know that it would ward off vampires, but I don't rightly know if it would scare away a demon. Perhaps a select few... I don't really know. Yours is blessed." As was everything else he owned, not that he needed to know that.

"Kinda figured that was the case" Joshua replied, taking a tentative sip of his tea. He wasn't completely suprised to hear that the symbols wouldn't be that helpful. Still something was better than nothing and they made Lulu feel less helpless so he wasn't going to say anything to put her off. Dropping his head, not wanting to meet September's eyes after what he was about to say, his grip on the mug in his hands tightened. "She was worried I'd think she was crazy so I told her I knew about demons and angels. I also kinda brought up the moving things with my mind thing" he said, the last sentence trailing off as he spoke.

At that, September paused and just watched him for a long moment. Of course you did. Damned teenage hormones. I'm not going to freak out at him for this. I'm going to deal with this calmly and rationally. "And how did she respond?"

At that, the bemused, goofy smile was back as his mind went back to the previous night. "She said it was cool and that I could practice at her place if I wanted" he replied, completely oblivious to the fact that he really shouldn't have said the second part of that sentence.

Internally, September groaned a bit. I'm hardly okay with him practicing here. He can't practice where I'm not there to safeguard! Try as she did to reign it in, it was obvious she wasn't the biggest fan of that idea just by the look on her face. "I see." she managed. "Well..." Deep breaths. "It's your right to tell whomever you deem fit. So long as you're careful." But this didn't feel like all he'd wanted to say, either.

Brain rapidly returning to the here and now, Joshua gave a mental groan as he realised his mis-step but was relieved to find he was still in one piece. "I will be" he replied automatically as he tried to process the conversation. She is taking this far too well. Mind you, this next bit is going to be what blows up in my face if anything does. "I told her you were the one who told me about all the weird-ness. Didn't tell her about you being my guardian angel but she knows you know about stuff."

September closed her eyes. Yes, that was just great. Eighteen-year-old man living with his older cousin who knows about 'stuff' - no, that wasn't going to raise questions. Not at all. On one hand, lying could have made things even more difficult for Joshua, but on the other... just, dammit! "Don't you think she's going to wonder how? Or why? Did she ask?"

"No. She asked if you had known that what attacked her wasn't a dog which was when I said you were the one who told me everything I knew. Then we moved on to the whole 'Hey, I can move things with my mind' business." Then there was kissing but there was no power on earth that was gonna make him divuldge that piece of information. "You didn't come up again after that." Lifting his head so he was looking at September properly, he bit his lip nervously. "What do you think I should tell her?"

Oh, dammit. Don't leave that to me. Is there anything that I don't have to be the bad guy in? Looking carefully at Joshua again, September tried to figure out an answer for him. There was the snippy part of him that would have very much liked to tell him that he got himself into this, and he could figure out his own solution, but she didn't. "You need to be very careful, Joshua." she said. "I know you like Lulu, but you haven't known her that long. I would be very sure of how serious the relationship was before I shared certain knowledge. It's a lot for one 'normal person' to grasp," -And she's a sixteen-year-old girl! "And your situation is not one you want a lot of people knowing. Do you trust her?"

Looking down at his mug again, Joshua began to think about Lulu. Her voice, which she worried sounded weird but in reality was just soft and reminded him of music. How cute she looked when she blushed, hell, how cute she looked all the time The way she teased him without it ever feeling like she was taking the piss. The fact that she was so kind and nice to everyone. And then there was the kissing. Musn't forget the kissing. Smile spreading across his face, he looked up at September. "Yeah I really do."

September really would have liked to groan, or just start bitching at him. "Alright. Well do you think she can keep a secret? Do you think she can hear things about angels and curses and your family curse and be okay? Do you think she can handle that information? Are you ready to tell her about your curse already?"

"Well she handled hearing about all the other stuff okay so I don't see why this would be more difficult for her and I already know she can keep a secret" Joshua replied quickly, however September's last question he couldn't answer straight away. For all his faith in Lulu, he was scared that things between them would change change if she knew about the curse. That she might become like September, hideously overprotective and always nagging or even just run for the hills, though he wasn't quite sure which was a worse prospect. But a bigger part of him wanted her to know, wanted to be completely honest with her like she had been brave enough to do with him. "Yeah I am" he said quietly, a tone of surprise in his voice he didn't expect to hear.

Son of a bitch. September sighed lightly, having to take a moment to try and figure out what to tell him. She didn't like this, but at the same time, she didn't have a good, coherent reason for why he couldn't. She still believed he was thinking at least partially with his hormones, or at least the adrenaline that came in the start of a young relationship. But if she flat out told him he couldn't... well, he could just tell her to sod off and do it anyway. Either way, she'd most definitely be the bad guy again. Finally, leaning heavily against her arm, she gave a short nod. "Tell her whatever you feel you need to, then. Just be careful." How many times did she say that a day?

Well that was...surprising, Joshua had expected more of a fight on the issue but here it was, a civilised conversation which ended in his favour. He was gonna make a note of this somewhere as he strongly doubted it would happen again anytime soon. Unless September was just mellowing out as she got older, a thought he was definitely not going to voice aloud. "I will be" he finally replied, standing up from the bed. "Thanks September" he said, giving her a wide smile before heading out of the room.

The second the door closed behind him and there was no chance of being seen, September allowed herself a scowl, and turned back to her desk as she muttered to herself. Fucking kids.
