Dinnertime dishing.

Who: Marlowe & Jules
When: Evening
Where: In the car and at the Restaurant

Jules pulled up in front of Marlowe's house and beeped the horn. Checking her make up in the mirror she smiled at herself and adjusted her hoop earrings. She'd promised Marlowe to take her out for dinner for her birthday, an added little gift on top of the necklace and the mere fact that Jules was a permanent fixture in the tiny town.

At the sound of the horn Marlowe peeked out the window, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth when she saw the familiar looking car idling at the curb in front of the house. After brief goodbye to Lucius and a little peck on the cheek she retrieved her coat from the front closet, slipping into it as she stepped through the door, and pranced lightly down the stairs toward the awaiting vehicle.

"You know you could've come in and at least said hi to Lucius." Marlowe told her friend as she buckled herself in the front passenger seat after settling herself in.

Jules rolled her eyes. "Riiight. I don't think the guy likes me. I'm surprised your not shackled to the bed." she teased as she pulled away from Marlowe's house. "Have you told him yet that I'm not just your best friend, but also an ex?" she questioned as she headed down the street. "Bet he'd just love to hear that." she chuckled and shook her head, her loopy earrings flicking back and forth with the motion. "Better not tell him. He might never let me see you again." She wasn't sure what to make of Lucius. He was attractive, sure. And Marlowe was head over heels for the guy, but she got the sneaky suspicion that the man was wary of her.

"He knows I had a girlfriend in high school," but that was just about as much information as Marlowe gave out. "I didn't offer up any names and he didn't do any asking, and I think we're secure enough in our relationship for him not to have to worry unnecessarily should he find out that you were that girlfriend he heard about." At least that was Marlowe's take on her and Lucius' relationship. She didn't think anyone could come between them and thought Lucius' thinking ran along the same lines.

"Is he jealous?" she questioned, glancing at the girl then turning back towards the road. "Nevermind." she shook her head. "All men are jealous and if he for one second sees me as a threat he's going to go apeshit about it. He'll be all 'my Marlowe!' and you'll never be able to see me again." she chuckled and shook her head.

"Oh please." Marlowe said with a roll of her eyes, and a glance sent over in Jules direction. "He would do no such thing. He knows who I'm with, I know who I'm with, and you know who I'm with. So really. I see no problems ahead should he find out."

"So, where are you taking me for my birthday dinner?" Marlowe asked in an attempt to divert their topic of conversation from one subject to a possibly more pleasant one.

Jules tossed her a smile. "Wherever you want, love. It's your birthday dinner, so you get to choose. What strikes your fancy tonight. Besides the hunk of a man you're going to be tasting for dessert?" she teased. "Maybe we can make it a party." she joked, knowing that Marlowe was much to infatuated in the man to invite a third person into the equation. She didn't even wait for the face that she knew Marlowe was about to make. "Okay, okay. I'll stop."

"You know you're as bad an influence now as you were when I first met you." Marlowe giving a bit of a smirk with her words. "Somewhere on the quiet side where we don't have to try and talk above the music or mass of people all trying to talk at the same moment." Marlowe told her.

"Alright. Italian or Mexican?" she questioned. "And please. I am not a bad influence. I'm just... opening you up to new experiences. Why? Don't want to share Lucius?" she teased. "And really... Lucius? You call him that? You don't like shorten it? You actually have to like... moan out his name?" She couldn't imagine calling out 'Lucius' in bed. It sounded so... medieval knightesque.

"Italian, and I happen to like having the guy to myself." She stated simply with a touch of sternness to her voice. "And yes, yes I do. I don't have to call him that, I just prefer to. I happen to like the name." And the guy, very much so, that the name had been bestowed upon.

"Oh... Oh... Lucius." she moaned playfully as she drove down the street. "Oh, that's too funny, Lolo." she chuckled. "Hilarious. You do realize I'm going to pick on you forever about that now, right? Does he have a strange middle name too?"

"Stop." Marlowe giving a light chuckle and playful swat, though not rough enough to disturb Jules driving all that much. "Of course, the little thorn in my side." She smirked. "And there is nothing strange what-so-ever about his middle name."

"Right." she said with a chuckle. "I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the guy at all in your eyes." she teased. "He's just such a dream boat."

It didn't take long for them to get to the restaurant and even shorter to be seated. Sunday's didn't seem to be busy in the restaurant. Once the waiter had got their drinks and took their orders, Jules leaned forward against the table. "So were you surprised?" she questioned with a little grin. "Surprised that I'm here again?"

"No guy is total perfection, Jules, They all have minor flaws, but there's nothing I would change about Lucius. I happen to like him just the way he is. And just to prove that there is nothing strange about his middle name, I'm going to tell you what it is. It's Evan." And if she found that odd or strange, well she'd have to have the same thought on Marlowe's last name as well.

When they reached the table Marlowe let her coat drape backward over the back of her chair after shouldering it off when she sat down across the table from her friend. "Totally. I can't believe you actually kept something of that magnitude from me. I mean with me being you best friend and all."

"I wanted it to be a surprise." she smiled. "It was so close to your birthday and I figured a little charade would be worth it to see the look on your face when I showed up on your doorstep with my present. And it was worth it." she said with a little wink.

"It was, though next time you do something like that make sure to wait and see who opens the door before giving a physical greeting." Marlowe said a bit amusedly while taking a sip of her drink. That scene had been a priceless moment, worthy of being captured on film if Marlowe had had her camera handy at that time. "I don't think Lucius has ever had a woman pounce on him like that before." Marlowe added with a grin.

"Oh he loved it." she said with a laugh. "Better watch him. I could give you a run for your money." she teased with a little wink. "And besides, I'm sure you pounce on him all the time, so don't even pretend you don't."

"That. Is completely different." She grinned mischieviously over to her friend. "My pounces just happen to be one of the things he enjoys most during our little interludes." She teased back playful, though her tone hinted to a bit of truth behind her words.

"Oh, I'm sure he's enjoying a lot more than pouncing. He's attached to you like he thinks you might disappear if he doesn't stay close to you at all times. How'd you end up with a clingy guy? And he has this bad boyish type look to him, which is weird for a clingy thing like him." she chuckled. "Is he always around you like that or was Friday night special?" She was curious how Marlowe dealt with him being around as much as he was and wondered for a moment if once the new wore off, she might get tired of the guy.

"He's not clingy, he's attentive." She said with a light nod of her head. "It was my party and he just wanted to make sure I had a good time, and then there is the fact that all the invities were my friends, so it's not exactly like he knew anyone other then me." Sure he had met Isabella prevously, but that didn't necessarily mean they knew each other all that well.

Jules rolled her eyes. "Attentive. Right. Is he always so 'attentive'?" she questioned with a playful little smirk. "I don't know how you do it. And I can't believe you really moved him in." she laughed. "He's practically your husband now, you realize that right? A little whirlwind. You sure it's not going to fizzle?" she asked, her tone taking a little more serious note. "I don't want to have to pick up the pieces of your broken heart should things turn sour."

"The politically correct term, Jules, is significant other. He was pretty much living at the house anyway, why not make it all official like." Marlowe reached for her glass to take another drink before continuing their conversation. "And no. It's not going to fizzle as you so delicately phrased it. Things only seem to be getting better between us, not worse." And that was something Marlowe firmly believed in. That they were in this relationship for the long haul. That things might turn sour had never been a consideration or briefest thought.

She shrugged. "I hope for your sake your right, lovely." she said to the redhead. "It's been my experience that guys and girls want two separate things most of the time. And girls tend to get invested in a guy that's not in it for love. I just don't want that for you." And she didn't. She avoided it herself by being just like men usually were with her. She wanted one thing from them and that was it. Marlowe was far more emotionally invested in this guy than she'd originally thought.

"It seems like ever since we met we've been on the same track. I mean we have some different interests, but then most couples have that. I think Lucius is the best investment I've ever made, relationship wise. I don't know how to explain it so that it'll make sense, but it just seems like this was meant to be. That we were destined to meet." Marlowe told her with a light shrug of her shoulders.

Jules shook her head a little and offered her best smile. "I just hope it works out for you, sweets." she said simply. "I can say that if he's as afraid of fire as you mentioned he was, and he still sticks around knowing... everything... maybe he's worth your time. I would tell you to just not jump in head first, but I'm getting the feeling that it's far too late for that." The waiter came then, bringing their plates and setting each girls meal in from of her before leaving. Taking a bite, Jules shrugged. "At least he's hot." she teased.

"Well, it's good to see we agree on something." A grin given before Marlowe eased her plate a little bit closer to start in on her own meal. "So. What about you, and exactly what is the story with that guy, Sasha was his name, wasn't it, that you brought to my party?" Giving her friend quite the curious look.

She chuckled. "Sasha, yeah. There's really no story." she told her honestly. "He stays at my house sometimes. Helped me out with some shadowy crap. Speaking of, now that you know I'm here, tell me that you got that shit too..." She hadn't even thought to ask the girl until now. Taking another bite of her food she shook her head. "You didn't tell me that so much crazy stuff went on around here."

"What. And have you worry when you were at the other end of the world?" All right, so she technically wasn't living that far away, but it sometime seemed like that. "Unfortunately the whole town got that shit. Had a close call with them, and if it weren't for Lucius I very well might not be sitting here talking with you right now." She told her.

"I pegged him for a bad boy, but a bad ass too? How exactly did he manage to get rid of them?" she asked. She'd known that bullets could kill the fucks, but highly doubted that Lucius, despite his rough outward appearance, carried a revolver.

"Knife." She answered. "Think he got it from a friend when all the shadow crap started." She added taking a couple more bites of her meal.

After a bite and a sip of her drink, Jules raised a brow. "A knife? He actually got within a knifes distance to the things? How the hell did he manage that without being clawed beyond recognition?"

"He managed. Somehow." Marlowe taking a quick drink after giving the vague answer. Wasn't like she was wanting to go into all that much detail of just how Lucius used his knife. Marlowe didn't think he'd want he sharing his little secret, even if it would be with her BFF. At least not before talking to him about it.

Jules raised her brow at the vagueness. "Right." she said, eying the other girl. "He must be pretty handy with that knife then. Maybe he's part of an underground gang." she teased, shaking her head and taking another bite of her food.

"What can I say. He's good with his hands." She smirked knowing well what her words insinuated. She knew her response had no reference to what Jules had just said, but at least it might work in derailing things from the track of conversation they were currently on.

"Is that so?" she questioned with a wiggle of her brows. "Just how good? Come on, I'm here in person now, you can dish on just how devilish Mr... whatever his name is, is in bed." she chuckled.

"Rembrandt. And you should know me well enough by now Jules to know I'm not one for kissing and telling." She grinned back to her friend. Alright, so she might offer up a few tidbits, but for the most part what Marlowe did behind closed doors generally remained there.

"Marlowe Rembrandt." she teased. "Has a nice little ring to it doesn't it?" she chuckled and shook her head. "And that's no fair, you have to give me some little inkling of how he is in bed. Don't make me find out for myself." she teased. She might be a little more than friendly with more than one man, but she'd never take anything away from Marlowe. Another woman, perhaps, but not Marlowe.

"Evans-Rembrandt." She corrected her friend. "But that is only if things ever reach that place." Things had moved a bit quickly between her and Lucius in the past, but now that things seemed to have settled they were content to taking things at a little more of a slower pace. With marriage never figuring into the equation. "And I have given you a little bit on that subject." She smiled smugly. And there was no need for her to retort on the latter part of Jules comment as she knew her friend all too well to know she'd never attempt following through on those words.

"With the look that you get in your eye every time you say the guys name, I'm pretty sure that you'll reach that point eventually. Just know that I'm not going to be doing any babysitting." she teased. "Yeah, a little bit isn't enough. I want details. If I'm never going to get to sleep with him myself, you have to at least tell me what I'm missing out on."

"Oh. If that ever happens," which would be a long way off from this time and place, "you are so being pulled into babysitting service." She told her. "I think you have enough imagination to let you know just what you're missing out on." She teased in return.

"I'm not going to babysit. Kids hate me. I'd be a bad influence. They'd come home with tattoos and piercings." she teased. "You wouldn't want that now would ya?" she chuckled and took a few more bites. "Just give me a few years at least. And I'm not doing the whole infant thing. Diapers... me... nope. Not happening."

"Just wait til you start having kids of your own, then you'll probably try and persuade me into doing the same thing." Marlowe gave a light chuckle at just that thought. Jules and a house full of little kiddies.

Jules burst into a fit of laughter. "Not happening." she said, shaking her head. "I don't get into relationships, let alone anything serious enough for a baby to be birthed. Nope. No kids for Jules." she told her. "Not happening. Maybe I'll be like Angelina and just get a few adopted kids."

"Weren't her adopteds infants? You'd still have to go through sleepless nights with hourly feedings and diaper changes." She remined her. "And you should know better then most, Jules. Never say never." Giving a playful wink.

She shook her head. "I'll adopt teenagers." she chuckled. "In like fifteen years when I'm bored and I need something to torture. I think I'd just love that 'I'm your mother, do as I say' crap. I know my mother did." she smirked. "I'm careful to keep things like that from happening." she went on. "As I hope you are, too."

"I'm not ready for any unexpected mistakes to happen. I don't think either of us are. Maybe in like ten years when, or if, we're married it could be a possibility. But right now I don't think children would play any part in our life." All right, so maybe it wouldn't take a decade for her and Lucius to have kids, but right now in the forseeable future, all Marlowe saw was her and Lucius.

"We'll see." she said with a smile. She let the topic drop and moved it right along to something else. "So, how was your birthday, besides of course the spectacular fact that your bestest friend in the entire world now lives in your vicinity again?"

"It was great, though it didn't end there. Been kind of a birthday weekend." Getting gifts and spending time with people who meant the most to her had made the whole weekend more then spectacular.

"A birthday weekend?" she asked, raising a brow and sipping her drink. "Lucius been showering you with attention this whole time?"

"You make that sound like a bad thing." She smirked. "Not that the gifts and attention came the full twenty-four hours per day. But he did make each day special. One gift each day, and then there was the breakfast in bed thing this morning." She said with a light twinkle in her eye.

"Awe..." she said with a high pitched little whine. "How cute. He's completely over the moon isn't he?" she chuckled. "You've got the guy wrapped around your little finger and you haven't even been together that long." she smiled. "Maybe you guys will make it afterall."

"Of course we will." She said with quite the confident sound to her voice that said she expected nothing other then that to happen. That what her and Lucius had was long lasting.

"You know." Marlowe started, eating a bit more of her meal before continueing, "you should come over for dinner some night this week. Bring your friend, Sasha with." The night might go a bit smoother if it were a little gathering of four instead of a small gathering of three. Considering what her and Jules had had in the past, even if Lucius wasn't privy to that little bit of back in the day history, things might be a little awkward among the trio.

"Sounds like fun. I'll run the idea past Sasha." she said with a nod.  "I'll let you know whenever I ask him. He pretty much comes and goes as he pleases." she chuckled. "But yeah, I'll ask and get back to you on that."

"Good." She said. "He sounds like somebody else I know. Just comes and goes as they please. Travel from city to town without so much as a single word to let a person know they're around." Marlowe smirked before digging into her meal once more.

She nodded. "Yeah. Sasha's a mechanic. Works a lot and he's got an apartment, but I know I don't like being alone, figured he didn't like it much either. So when he gets bored or just doesn't feel like being by himself, he comes and crashes at my place. Did you ever think you'd see the day when Jules Martinez actually has a guy at her house that she's not banging?" she laughed.

"Nope. Never thought I'd live to see such a day. Thought hell might freeze over before that'd happen." She smirked.

Jules laughed. "I know right! Me too, in all honesty. So other that being obnoxiously involved with Lucius lately, what else have you been up to?" she asked. "Tell me everything. We've got tons of catching up to do. I might even have to kidnap you for a night. Think Lucius can handle being alone a whole evening?"

"I think he can manage on his own for one night." Marlowe gave a light chuckle. "And why don't we leave the major catching up for that night." She added. Sure there was lots Jules didn't know, just like Marlowe was guessing there was much in her friend's life that she missed. "It'll be just like the sleepovers back in the day."

"Well... without the making out." she teased. "But yeah. Tell Lucius to plan on being Marloweless at least one night. Maybe he can go out and do manly things. Or order some porn on the television." she chuckled.

"Well, there goes my fun for that evening." She teased. "Wanna tentatively set it for Friday night?" That be a good night for her, she could head on over to Jules' after getting off work. And this way it wouldn't be like she was throwing the night out at Lucius at the last minute. He'd probably have time to make alternate plans then.

"Sounds good love. I work til fiveish. I can meet you at the diner if that's easier, pick you up?"

"Well. I work til nine, so it might work out better with me just driving on over to your place that night. That way it'll give you time to do a bit of housecleaning."

"My house stays pretty clean, but I can get movies picked out and drinks and junk ready for us to pig out, because we so are going to. Pizza, movies, ice cream and probably some liquor. Maybe even a stripper or two." she teased.

"I don't know about the stripper thing, but everything else sounds like a plan." She smiled. "So. Are we going to veg out in your living room? Should I pack a couple sleeping bags into the element for sleeping on the floor in your living room?" Been quite the while since she did that. Sleeping bag it out on someone's living room floor.

"Could be fun. Sure, why not. We can relive our youth for a night." she chuckled. "And why can't we have a stripper? There's nothing wrong with strippers."

"Cause it's suppose to be an all night catching up session, and, well, we won't be able to do that if you've got strippers present. And besides, if I know you you'll be trying to get at least one of them into the sack. And then where would that leave me?" She returned with a questioning look.

"That'll leave you calling up Lucius at 2 in the morning to come bang you." she said with a teasing grin. "And you know that you wouldn't be minding that in the slightest now would you?"

"Of course I could just leave you to your little party of three and go home and get more pleasure in my own bed then having to worry about interruptions at your place." She grinned back before finishing off the rest of her drink.

"Or you could bring Lucius along and we'd just have an orgy and everyone would win!" she said with a smile spreading across her face. "That would be so hot. Me, you and Lucius. What do you think?"

"I think you'd end up having an orgy of one while I'm at home having at it with Lucius." She smirked. She really wasn't in to those types of things, which Jules well knew, and she highly doubted Lucius was a big fan of them. Not that she was wanting to find out.

"Oh come on. You're no fun." she said with a little laugh. "Hogging the hot guy. We're supposed to share things, Marlowe." she teased.

"We do share. Some things. Guess I'll have to go on a little hunt and find you your own little town hottie." She grinned.

"You do that." she said with a nod. "Make sure he's really hot and totally unattached. And... doesn't work at the diner." she chuckled. She wasn't about to go into all those details unless coaxed out of them.

"I may just very well do that." She returned with a playful grin. "Though you need to do one thing in return if I happen to find Mr. Wonderful for you."

She raised a brow. "And what's that exactly?" she questioned. "I do a lot of things, but it's got to be well within reason, sweets."

"You can't turn him into a one night stand. Gotta keep him around for at least three days." She smirked. Yes she knew her friend all too well.

"We'll see what I can do." she said what a shrug. "Maybe you'll find me a Prince Charming and I'll hold onto him for an even week."

"So. Do I get dessert with this meal?" Her plate was pretty much on empty. And having something sweet to cap the dinner off with would allow them to linger a bit longer at the table before heading on out.

"Of course you do. Gotta get some sweet stuff in me." she said with a grin. "Get whatever you like, sweetie. I've got all night to gab and I'm sure Lucius will be fine for at least a little longer."
