good news
Who: Dean and Oz
Where: Their house
When: Morning
Dean had awoken alone, but that didn't come as a surprise, since Thia had seemed dead set on sleeping elsewhere. It just made a change for her to be there when he went to sleep and for it not to be him crawling out of bed early enough to be gone before she woke. Still, being that she'd been there when he went to sleep, he woke up early, just in case. He'd showered and dressed, gone down stairs, only to be surprised that she wasn't on the sofa. Which did beg the question of where she was. He'd have to look for her. He'd have to look for her, and he'd have to find out what the latest news was about his deportation status. Two things on the top of his list of 'shit to do today'.
Oz was walking through the house to head upstairs, a cup of coffee in his hand. He needed the caffeine. Normally he'd be asleep around nowish, or just heading to bed, and that? Sooo wasn't an option today. Even if he'd gone to bed early with Sophie, that didn't fix his natural tendencies. "Hey." he greeted Dean with a nod. "Got a few?" he asked.
"Sure," Dean agreed, wanting to ask whether it was good news. Or to demand that it be good news. Really 'so, I'm getting married this afternoon' would be just wonderful right about now. But, in the event, 'sure' was all he gave.
"Your cousin and I are going to be gone for a few days. We're...well, we're going to Vegas to get married. So, that should take care of the issues of deportation and everything. I'm leaving you guys cash, just in case, and Billy and Maddie are sticking here, so if anything comes up, call them first, then call us." Oz said, condensing, though he was watching Dean carefully.
Dean's smile began on that second sentence and slowly grew. "Really?" he asked, as if he had to make sure. "So - we're not going to have to leave? We can stay? It's all going to be alright?" he checked, hardly daring to believe it. He'd forced himself to become resigned to the fact that they were leaving, to not entertain the hope of something - well, something exactly like this, in fact.
Oz quirked a little half smile. "In theory, yeah." he said. "So...you can stop worrying, and everything should be good to go." he continued. "Feel better?" he asked, sounding a touch amused. He had to say just seeing Dean that happy at the news lightened his own spirits. He wasn't going to have to deal with his pack getting split up. He wasn't going to have to deal with losing anyone. This? Was a very good thing. And the fact that Dean looked really pleased about it, that was good too. The kid obviously wanted to stay, so...yeah. Now he could. The world might even itself out yet.
"Yeah, yes - yes. This - is great." He paused. "Thank you. Really. I... Have you seen Thia?" he asked him. He wanted to tell her. Wait, no, he wanted... He didn't know what he wanted right now, but yes, this was good news. The best news. And he wanted to know where she was, because he didn't know and when he decided what he wanted, he'd need to. Hey - it made sense in his head.
"She's in the basement." Oz said. And technically he hadn't so much seen her as knew she was down there from other cues. "I'm guessing sleeping on the couch?" he suggested. "She and I...usually aren't up this time of the day." Which was why when she'd been living with them, he'd occasionally gotten to spend a little bit of time with her. At the very least enough to know her sleeping habits, and now was her time to be crashed out.
Well, that answered Dean's quandary - if she was sleeping then he'd let her sleep. Or, maybe, go and take a peek and then let her sleep. "Okay, thanks. So, erm - when are you leaving?" he asked.
"Ummmiiiii have no idea." Oz said. "Sophie's kinda...in a huge flurry of organization and I'm more or less just kind of smiling and nodding at this point. Today?" he suggested. "Sometime today. Maybe this afternoon. Or...in the next ten minutes, honestly I have no idea, I just got done packing." he admitted. "But today, at some point. That was the general consensus."
"Okay, erm - take care. And good luck. And - congratulations and everything," Dean told him, a little awkwardly. It was beginning to hit home that this felt a little weird - the whole 'marriage' thing. Five minutes ago, it had just been something that needed to be done to stop him having to go back to England. Now, it was like... they were getting married. Which would mean that Oz would really become his cousin and everything.
"Thank you." he said. "Sophie'll tell you to be responsible and good while we're gone. I'll tell you to have fun. Just don't do anything illegal or burn the house down." Oz said, figuring Dean was a kid who really could use a little more fun in his life. So, he was giving permission for it. And whatever that might entail. He didn't know if Dean would actually do anything, but he guessed they'd see.
"I won't burn the house down," Dean promised. He didn't promise about the illegality - but then, Oz had been the one who gave the minor the illegal firearm in the first place, wasn't he? He paused, before asking what was on his mind. "...And Thia?"
"Billy tells me she's staying with us again." Oz said to that, not sure how to go about addressing that situation. He still figured until this was all kind of more over, it was okay. He knew how Dean felt about the girl, and so he wasn't going to be the asshole who was keeping them apart when they might need each other. Plus, he'd never sent her away because he didn't like her. He did. It was just the relationship intensity and possible unhealthiness that had him concerned.
So...witness him not being a dick about it. They could reassess when he and Sophie were back.
Dean nodded. "With this and - that house isn't good for her. She's not good there, she doesn't like it. I don't either. There's something... wrong... there. Nobody else seems to feel it, but - maybe it's just us. Maybe there's something wrong with us, I don't know, but I know she's uncomfortable there and... And I don't want her to go back there," he said, finding a firmer voice and standing behind that. He'd gotten her out of there. She was here now. He wanted her to stay.
Oz listened, watching Dean, slightly distracted by the fact that he could very faintly smell blood. And Dean's lip was a little swollen, as well. Which he'd ask about in a second. "Billy mentioned something like that...what exactly is going on? I know I haven't felt anything like that there, neither have Sophie. But, you two are...different anyhow. Maddie's looking into it, isn't she?" he asked. Last time he'd checked she was.
"Yeah, Maddie's looking into it," Dean confirmed, sucking his bottom lip in between his teeth, trying to lessen some of the stinging there, though it only made it worse, so he let it go. "And - we don't really know what's going on, but... Thia feels some kind of weird energy, I just feel wrong and we both feel generally uncomfortable and twitchy whilst we're there. It's - hard to explain. But there's definitely a border - edge of the property down the drive and, like - if you go down to the beach and then wade out into the lake to around mid-thigh height? That's the border there," he explained.
"Very strange. Well, she can stay here for now, and then when we're back, we can all talk about it, okay?" Oz said. "I'm sure no one wants her staying someplace that she isn't comfortable, that's no good at all. So we'll figure things out." he promised. "What happened to your lip?"
Dean had opened his mouth to reply to Oz, when he asked about his lip and he immediately shut it again, sucking his lip back into his mouth as he felt the blush start to rise. "Erm, nothing - look, I... have some stuff to do, okay?" he said, already backing off.
Oz gave Dean a 'Hey! You're acting amazingly strangely, and I have taken note!' look. "Uhhhh yeah." he said. "Sure you do. Not even a half assed excuse for me?" he asked. He was just a tiny bit amused, considering the blush. If it had been a fight or something, he probably would have gotten a different response, now Oz was just curious.
"What - you'd believe me if I gave you one?" Dean asked him, giving him a disbelieving look as he continued to back off. He coudn't think of an excuse anyhow and the truth - either really wouldn't go down well, or the best he could hope for was to be laughed at. Dean really wasn't good at being laughed at.
"It's the principal of the thing." Oz said. "But fine, go on, do your stuff. I'm betting we'll be checking in every night, so have your cell on you or be home." he continued. "The money I think is left for you two in an envelope in the kitchen..." he said, glancing back towards it, still feeling a little out of it and very 'go with the flow' right now. "I probably have random shit to do too. Or I'm sure Sophie could find something for me to do. See you in a few days, Dean."
"Okay - erm, bye," Dean said, before almost fleeing the house, just wanting to get out of there now so hopefully he could stop blushing. He go... out for a bit. Come back later. Hey - maybe they'd be gone by then... That would be good. And he could avoid horrible questions like that. god.
