Holy ground

Who: Caleb and Nic, OPEN TO ALL TEENS
Where: Halls of the hospital, hospital chapel
When: 4 A.M.-ish

Caleb was relieved when the two groups converged on one another, both having been headed for the other group. So, at least that was handy, and it appeared no one was missing. Or, well, no students. With the brief description of the creature, Caleb definitely encouraged the chapel, even though he knew full fucking well he wouldn't be able to stay there. Dean had remained at the back of the group, and Caleb had the front, and he tugged Nic up beside him as they hurried.

Up at the front was where Nic wanted to be, keeping her eyes peeled for trouble and ready to back Caleb up if trouble showed itself. Her mind was still reeling, of course, since somewhere in the back of the group with Dean was Lullaby. Lullaby, who'd never given her shit, who'd died. She'd been shocked, yeah, but she was choking it down for now. Survival was the order of the day.

"We just need to wait for sun-up, right?" she asked as they moved, still keeping her knife at the ready, "One of the teachers is probably supposed to call someone and check in or something, right?" She didn't expect Caleb to have all the answers, but there was too much going on in her head for Nic to move in silence. It was either asking questions or grabbing Caleb's hand, and even in the face of horrors she wasn't going to be that girl. She'd had her shit together, it was staying together.

"In theory." Caleb said. "But just for the hell of it, I'm going to say we prepare for long term, just in case the cavalry doesn't show." he said. But then that was what he did. He was the kind of person who did worst case scenario, regardless. So far that hadn't fucked him over so he was sticking to it. Better to be more prepared than necessary than underprepared and fucked. "Right now I just want everyone in the same place, and someplace where what I'm pretty sure are demons are not going to want to go." Which also fucked him over, but he wasn't concentrating on that just now.

So they were demons. It had been a logical conclusion, but Nic didn't trust her own hunch there. She'd seen so little, who knew what these things were? The chapel was a perfect spot to defend themselves from, in that case. All they needed to make the defense last was weapons and food. A few chair legs and knives wouldn't do much, and even if Dean had a gun and Lullaby had a bow? Who knew how many of these things there were? From what Nic had gathered, the teachers from both dorms had been attacked within minutes of each other. So either these things could teleport, or there were a few of them. "You're, um..." Nic said as they moved, lowering her voice warily, "You're going to tell me later how Draven's here, right?"

Caleb nodded. "And if you're going to have a bad reaction to that? Don't have it in front of Dean." he said, voice very low. "She's fine. Trust me." he said, knowing it was kind of a lot to ask, really, but he hoped that she would do that. Of course, trust might be becoming an issue really fucking quick-like here, but at the moment he really hoped that it was doable.

Giving herself just a moment, Nic did reach out low to squeeze Caleb's hand in her free one, looking his way with a taut smile. "I trust you," she murmured, letting go an instant later. In this situation? All she could do was trust the people who knew more than her, so if people vouched for Lullaby? Nic would watch her back if she needed it. "Anyone else looks like they're gonna freak... pow," Nic added, clenching a fist and winking at Caleb. It was a weak attempt at humor while they were technically running for their lives, but she needed to do it for herself. "Fucking Rah Rah and her drama queen sister wanted to hide under their beds..."

"Never expect practicality from a cheerleader." Caleb said, and he'd given Nic's hand a squeeze when she'd taken his for that brief moment. It surprised him, a little, but not in a bad way. Though it did give him a pang, since hey. He knew where this ended. Other people needed to be in the chapel, because it was the safest place for them. He couldn't be in there long term. He could get there and help people get set up, but yeah. That was not going to be anything that was sustainable. And he'd have to answer for that. He turned the corner, stopping for a moment to be sure nothing was there before keeping moving, they weren't far now.

"Fuck no, that's what bitches like me are for," Nic shot back with a stronger smirk, feeling some steadiness return just from the back-and-forth with Caleb. "Got my blade and my witch shit, now I just need to make it work." She also had her pint bottle of vodka, which was technically a component? But it had also been appealing to think of sneaking some private drinks. Now it was a makeshift molotov waiting to happen. "After this is over? Knife lessons," she insisted, spying the faded sign on one wall that told her the chapel was just ahead.

"Just tell me when." Caleb said, thinking that she wouldn't be wanting to do that after she found out. Or, after he told her. Either way, he wasn't making a promise, because she could very well want nothing to do with him in oh, say a few hours. He noted the sign as well, and picked up the pace a little bit, so they could get everyone to the chapel, and hopefully come up with a better game plan. Then he'd worry about what was going to happen to him.

"The moment we're done talking to the cops or my mom or whoever we have to explain this shit to," she told him, tensing up and expecting the worst on the other side of the chapel's doors. Sure, Taylor had said holy ground would be safe, but the girl didn't exactly seem experienced. And maybe only certain churches qualified, Nic wasn't sure. As they reached the doors she threw a hand out behind her at everyone else, shifting her grip on her knife and stopping in her tracks. "This is the part where you get upset if I go first," she told him with a deep breath, cracking her neck in anticipation.

"This would be that part." he agreed, So he went first. He opened up one of the doors fast, and moved inside, looking around. And....fuck all happened. "Two rooms to check." he called back, going to push the adjar doors open, and after a few momends, he was back out. "Clear." he said, already feeling the weirdness that holy ground made him feel. Awesome. This was just going to be fabulous.
