Introducing Chaos

Who: Kavin and Nic
Where: Outside MSHS, streets around town
When: just after school lets out

Today was a different approach for Nic, that was for certain. She'd grumbled her way through her day at school, itching for it to be over so she could get downtown and get to her kickboxing lesson. Which, admittedly, was an hour away still, but Nic had found the lessons surprisingly addictive. What was surprising was that she was actually good at it; she'd even been invited to test up into the advanced classes next week if she could pass muster. But even if she was eager, her mind tended to gravitate to other places. She'd looped around the highschool before heading out the back doors by the football field, absently wondering if Caleb was stalking her as Nic tugged her hoodie down over the layers of t-shirt, thermal sleeves, and gloves. Tugging up her hood and slipping headphones on, Nic smirked curiously, wondering if she might spot him if she looked around.

She should've tried, it might've given her some warning as a truck rumbled past the curb, deliberately swerving in to spray slushy snow up at her. "Eat a bag of assholes!" she screamed at the truck as it pulled past, shaking her sleeves free of extra wetness and scowling at the others in the lot around her, just daring someone to say something and give her a reason to warm up before class.

Kavin was just leaving the parking lot, his window down just a bit to let the cigarette smoke escape into the wind. He just happened to be behind said truck that sloshed wetness all over the very vocal girl. He wasn't about to leave her wet and in the snow, so he pulled up beside her and rolled his window the rest of the way down. "Uh... hey..." he began. "Um... you wanna ride because walking in the snow is gonna suck and... oh, I'm Kavin by the way.." he added, realizing he probably should have mentioned that to begin with. "You can say no and stuff, but I think you'd prefer sitting in a warm car than walking in the snow.."

Nic smirked thinly at Kavin, deciding that the smell of smoke rolling from his car was delicious, and it made his offer all the more tempting. She had to wonder just when it was that the guys in this town started deciding to be decent, because it wasn't just new arrivals like Caleb or nate, apparently. There'd been Thom too, and now Kavin? "I know who you are," she said somewhat teasingly, moving over towards his car, "Think we had algebra or some shit together last year, I was the one who got sent to the office for for spitting on a cheerleader." Really, Nic was thinking she needed to work harder on getting her reputation back up to snuff. "A ride? Yeah, just don't go getting any ideas. You don't know where I've been."

He had to chuckle a little at her comment. "Yeah, a ride. Promise I won't get to frisky. Wouldn't wanna catch anything." he teased, his voice clearly coming across jokingly. "And yeah, I think we did." he said, unlocking the passenger door for her to climb in. "Nic, right?" he asked. "I think you might know a friend of mine too. Nate." A friend. Yeah, a used to be friend who hauled ass, but that thought had to be shoved out the window right away because it really wasn't going to help him feel better about Nate leaving if he kept thinking about him. "So where ya headed?" he questioned once the girl had gotten in the car.

"Shit yes I know Nate," she answered as she dropped into Kavin's car, slamming the door and digging out her own cigarettes, "Where's that skinny bastard been at? This town's fucking scarce when it comes to people who even know who Al Jourgensen is." And okay, there were points in Kavin's favor as far as not sucking. He knew Nate, he smoked, he'd offered her a ride even if he knew who she was. He'd even played along with her whole 'disease-ridden' joke. Fuck ghosts. Finding out these people are cool is messing with my world, she mused, popping a smoke to her lips. "U.S. Muay Thai, down on Washington," Nic eventually elaborated, "It's time for me to actually get approval for punching fools in the mouth."

He nodded at the statement of where she was going and once she was buckled in, he rolled his window up almost all the way, flicking the ash out the window and replacing it between his lips again. Taking a puff, he decided the best way to approach talking about Nate was just getting it over with. "He left town." he began. "His dad had some sort of work shit back where they moved from so him and Nate took off a couple days ago. Not sure if they're coming back or not, but..." he shrugged. "Sucks, but not much you can do about shit your parents make ya do, right?" At least when you lived in their house, by their rules.

Well that... sucked. It was plain that Nic thought so as she frowned deeply, wondering if the 'work shit' was related to just how Nate had known about the werewolves. "That's some shit," she agreed as she exhaled her first drag out the window, pushing her hood back. "But yeah, they're the wardens we all get, right? Hell, I just got done being under house arrest a few days ago." And with everything Nic wanted to learn and try, she figured it might not be long before she got grounded again. She also thought that grounding was comparitively light compared to what could happen out there after dark, but that was a little much to share. "I've got his email, if you need it or anything," Nic offered weakly, figuring that Kavin probably knew how to get in touch much better than she did.

"Thanks." he said with a nod. "His little brothers still here so I figure he'll come around eventually or something. I know it's not the same and Dylan totally isn't Nate..." Mostly because I totally can't make out with him and get high with him and just hang out and... stop you're just making yourself feel shitty. he thought. "But at least there's someone around that may know how to get a hold of him and stuff. He's still got his cell, but I know he's busy and shit so, yeah. But, onto more non-depressing things." he suggested. "You get approval for punching people in the face?" he smiled.

Nic had to laugh briefly, Kavin sounded as intrigued by the idea as she'd been the first time she'd gotten praise for knocking someone on their ass. "Oh dude, you have no idea," she gushed, grinning wickedly, "If I do it right, the instructors do everything but give me a highfive and a cookie. And like, I was already the toughest person with tits in school, you know? Except that fat dude on the football team. But now?" Nic puffed her cigarette animatedly, throwing tiny jabs at the air in front of her. "Now I could take on the hockey team without any stolen tools from the autoshop classroom. You know how to fight or anything? If not, you should totally sign up for classes, I'd even go easy on you."

"I think I can hold my own." he smiled. With a weapon or two he'd battled with more than just kids on a hockey team, but he couldn't really say that, now could he. No, of course not. He took another hit from his cigarette and flicked the ash out the window, giving the girl another little grin. "Always nice to know that every chick isn't waiting for a white knight to save her. Kinda cool that there's at least one that could kick some ass of her own."

She made a face at that, nose wrinkling in distaste. If she thought about it, this entire situation was something of a coup. There she was, the school's resident anti-girl, riding in the car of one of the more popular guys in school. And she would've mistrusted the whole idea if she didn't feel confident that she could handle herself if things went bad, but they hadn't yet. Maybe he was a decent guy who just happened to be up there on the social ladder. Weird. "I can't stand chicks like that, y'know? Not a whole lot of white knights, so plenty of girls are just setting themselves up for disappointment. All deluded and shit. And no offense, but your gender kinda sucks? So I like knowing I can take a toll of a few teeth from the ones who waste my time."

"They are deluded, and yeah, I know guys suck. At least the majority of them. I like to think that I don't suck, but I might just be fooling myself or something because I've been called a dick more times than I can count." He smiled a little at that, thinking that he probably deserved every single time he'd been called a dick, but he wasn't going to admit that much fault. "Next time you decide to kick the shit out of some guy though, lemme know so I can get a front row seat to that shit."

"No dude, you totally suck," Nic deadpanned, keeping an even expression for a solid thirty seconds before she smirked. Because really, her? In this car? It was weird, and even if it was okay thusfar, or maybe even more because it was, Nic had to question things at school. Thom was a more popular kid, Kavin definitely was, and both were turning out to be decent. So... whatever, she'd think it over later. "Serious, no one has as many sycophants as you do without something being wrong with them," she teased a little more, sitting back and poking her cigarette out the window before rolling it back up. "But I'll make sure you're on the VIP list for next time. All you need to do is listen for someone yelling 'stop that, you crazy bitch!' and you'll know where I'm at."

"Not like I ask for it." he told the girl, shaking his head and taking a hit from his own cigarette. "I think the more money you have and the more parties you throw the more popular you become. really blows, but..." he shrugged. "What the fuck ever. I have come to the conclusion, in all honesty, that I have a lot more fun with the not-cool kids than the cool ones."

Her smirk stretched a little wider as Nic absently reached up to the vivid bruising on her neck, wondering how Caleb might take Kavin. Probably not well, given his fuck-off attitude for so many people in school. But that wasn't a huge concern to her, it wasn't like she'd suddenly be getting party invites she'd have to drag him off to. "Probably because we're not parrots wearing Abercrombie shirts," she commented wryly, "Yes-men suck, y'know? I'd rather know I can butt heads with people than wonder what they're really thinking when they act like I'm god's gift."

"Totally." he agreed with a nod. "I have the feeling a lot of the people I know just chill with me for the house parties." It was a sad truth, but Kavin didn't really give a shit. "Dude, you should see the way a lot of them look at me because my girlfriend isn't in the social circle of bitches." he muttered, annoyance clear in his voice.

"Careful, they might decide to try and give her a makeover or something equally fucked," Nic cautioned, glancing out her window to watch the streets roll by. "Probably all thinking they can improve her or some shit, that's how a lot of those mouthbreathers operate; 'we can fix her, make her stronger, faster, better'." She knew firsthand, it was clear from how she spoke. But lucky for Nic, people had taken her not-so-subtle hints quickly and just backed off. "Who's your girl? I can either watch her back and fend off the retards or steer clear so no one thinks she's a les."

"Jeri Campbell." he said with a little chuckle at her comments. "And you can watch her back and fend off the retards. You don't have to steer clear of her, because even if the thought that, I can totally see you beating some ass for calling you or her that for that matter. I don't thinks she'd take it too lightly. She's not really a fighter, but I could see her popping a chick in the mouth for talking shit." And boy could he. Hell, he could probably even see Jeri popping some guy in the mouth for saying something out of line. In fact, he'd probably pay to watch the whole thing go down.

Nic smirked, thinking she'd like seeing more chicks in the hall who weren't scared to throw a punch. If there were enough? Hell, she could start her own little gang with Drea. "Well, if I watch out for her or something? I'm gonna be subtle with that shit. You might not like your rep, but I love mine," she informed him, nodding to herself. And why wouldn't she? Nic could step into the bathrooms and the chatter would stop, she could put on a good glare and have clear passage down the halls. The last thing she wanted was to fuck it all up by having obvious friends.

Kavin grinned and nodded. "Yeah, wouldn't want people thinking you actually liked someone. You can tell them you threatened to beat me up if I didn't give you a ride." he teased, flashing a smile in her direction. "Wouldn't want them thinking you associate with me now would you?"

Honestly? She wouldn't. And not because of anything personal, or not really, but Nic didn't know how she'd handle the connotations of people thinking that. Though the rumors alone would be beautiful to behold. "It'd almost be worth it to see the chaos hit the social structure," she mused, "Cheerleaders all dressing in black, tightassed dudes you know running out to buy Anthrax albums. I'd laugh myself sick, y'know. And then I'd have to go on a rampage to punish people for biting on my style."

That got a laugh and Kavin shook his head a little. "Jeez." he muttered. "I could actually almost see that." he said. "They'd really think that the apocalypse was coming." He knew they would. The whole social ladder would collapse upon itself and everyone would fall off and have to rebuild. It was quite tempting in all honesty.

"Who says it's not?" Nic asked far more lightly than she meant, "Between the ghosts, the 'rabid animals', the gangs? Fuck, even the freak-ass weather? If all it takes to really convince them is you saying hi to me in the halls, these people have some weirdass issues to consider." And she wondered just how much it would take to fully burst the bubble of normalcy that people still had left. Nic knew she still had one too, otherwise how would she still be able to focus on work or kickboxing or even this? But somehow, she had the feeling her own was much more shrunk down than the majority of people she or Kavin dealt with daily.

"It probably is." he shrugged. "Too much fucked up shit. But as crazy as Marquette is, you never know. It might just be another random day in the life of a Marquette kid." he pointed out as he turned on the street of his destination. "At least we're smart enough to keep doing shit we like doing rather than sit around waiting for it all to end in a fiery explosion or something."

"You've got your hopes too high if you think it'll be some big explosion," Nic chided jokingly, shaking her head at him, "After all, 'this is how the world ends, not with a bang, but with a whimper', right? But yeah, you've got it right. I'd rather be getting shitfaced than crying and hugging a bible, whatever happens." And that was another oddity, realizing they agreed. Though it was less than it would've been only a short time earlier, given that this had been okay. She hadn't wanted to hit him once. "Right up here," Nic pointed out, finger jabbing ahead and to the left to indicate the curb they were approaching.

Kavin pulled over next to the curb and put the car in park. "Well, my ass ain't gonna be hugging the bible." he said, shaking his head. That much he knew to be fact. He had enough shit to worry about than to just sit around and hold the bible and pray that god would come back and take away all the evil of the world. It hadn't happened yet and he wasn't holding his breath for it happening any time in the future. "That whole shitfaced things sounds pretty nice though." he grinned. He took a last puff of his cigarette and flicked the end of it out the window.

Nic nodded her agreement, popping her seatbelt free and lugging her backpack up into her lap. "It's how I manage to deal with week after week of school," she confided with a conspiritorial wink, "I'd suggest you try it sometime, but you already said you did the whole house party thing. But hey, try itwithout the geniuses. Get your misfit girl and a bottle, maybe some bad horror. It's a good time." Nic reached for the handle of the car door, grinning more earnestly at Kavin. "And thanks for the ride, dude. Don't take it personally if I still tell you to eat shit in the halls though."

That got a grin from Kavin and he nodded. "Totally understand. Might pop back with a 'fuck you bitch' in return. Our little code for saying hello without drawing too much attention." he chuckled. "Not a problem." he assured her. "I'll catch ya later Nic."
