The new girl.
Who: Skye & Chrissy
Where: The Diner
When: Around 4:30
Skye had decided, on her way home with her aunt's car, that she really wanted a cup of tea. She didn't drink coffee, but who needed that when you could get chi and lemon and 'African spice' or whatever it was called, which was a heck of a lot better (in Skye's opinion)? Anyway, she parked, wandered into the diner (internally flinching at the number of people there), and found herself a quiet little table in the back to order her tea from.
After leaving Sammy in the hallway of the school, Chrissy wandered around for a bit before heading into the diner the mood for a nice diet soda and something non fattening. Okay... probably just a diet soda. Pushing through the door she plastered on her usual smile and walked up to the counter ordering the soda. Glancing around as the person behind the counter went about making said soda, she spotted the new girl. She'd seen her around the halls and had yet to speak to her. The waitress handed her the soda and Chrissy paid her then made her way to the table where the girl was sitting, inviting herself to have a seat across from her and gave her a teeth baring grin. "Hi. I'm Chrissy Chapman, I think we go to school together, you're new right?" she asked sweetly.
Skye wasn't startled that Chrissy Chapman was sitting across from her. She had no idea who Chrissy Chapman was. It was more of a 'sudden person appearing' thing that had her blinking in surprise. Having her train of thought derailed, it took her a moment. "Uh, yeah. Hi. I'm Skye - pleased to meet you. And yeah, I'm new."
"Sorry about just poppin' up on ya." she said, still baring her plastered smile. "Just thought I'd introduce myself. Being new has to be a bit of a change for anyone. Where are you from?" she queried. She didn't much care where the girl was from, but it could prove interesting to see what she could figure out about her. At least it would occupy her for a few minutes if nothing else.
"North west Alberta, up in Canada." Skye glanced up as her tea was finally brought, and she smiled at the waitress. Then she put the teabag inside the little metal pot of water and waited for it to brew. "Pretty isolated from everything else. Did you grow up here?" Skye looked at Chrissy curiously, as she turned up her coffee cup in preparation for the mighty drink that was delicious tea.
She nodded. "Yup, sure did. Gotta be a change, moving to the states from Canada." she noted. "Is it a lot different?" she questioned. "I mean, learning differently and stuff. Don't they use like the metric system or something. Kilometers instead of miles and what not?"
"Yeah, but conversion's easy. It's just math. You know, formulas. You know the formula, you know how cold it is outside in metric and imperial." Skye put sugar in her cup. "I don't know about the schools, though. I've never been to one before. It's kind of a neat experience."
Chrissy raised her brow at the thought of never being at school before. "You've never been to school? Were you like home-schooled or something?" she questioned as she took a sip of her soda.
Skye nodded, and then poured herself a cup of the tea, nicely strong because that was how she preferred it. "Yup. It was just too far to go to school every day, so it was like a cross between long-distance learning and homeschooling. I guess it was good enough, since, y'know, I know generally what they've talked about in class for the past couple days."
"Still gotta be a bit confusing, just jumping in the deep end like that." she said. "I mean, no real social interaction and then heading face first into high school. Made any friends yet?" she questioned, raising an eyebrow. "Or have you kept pretty much to yourself?"
"Not really, no. I mean, I've chatted with people, but that doesn't make for a friendship, y'know? And people seem to have their own groups, and I just end up feeling like an outsider if I want to go over and talk with someone. But it's only been a couple days." Skye said, determined not to be negative, and she picked up the tea and sipped it. Could've used a bit of sugar, but she'd just drink it as it was.
This could be more fun that Chrissy had initially imagined. "Well, ya know. If you're having trouble finding your niche, you're more than welcome to hang out with me sometime." she offered. "Maybe we can go shopping or something tomorrow. Come hang out at my place. I've basically got run of the house and I think you'd look really great in a couple of shirts I have." she offered sweetly. It would be interesting to wind the girl up and watch her go. Especially if she hadn't already been warned about Chrissy Chapman.
Skye wasn't altogether sure why anyone would offer her random shirts, but then again, she wasn't altogether sure about the social dynamics of girls her age. "It's the same at my aunt's house - she's hardly ever there - but that'd be nice, thank you for inviting me." Skye was good at taking things at face value.
Chrissy smiled. "No problem. After school good for you or you have something else planned?" she questioned, taking another sip of her soda and shifting her bag from her shoulder to the floor.
Skye hesitated long enough to think about it, then shook her head. "No, not unless my aunt surprises me with a random dinner party I'm supposed to attend or something, but I don't think she'd spring that on me."
Nodding Chrissy reached into her bag and pulled out a piece of paper and a pen. Writing her number down in loopy round print she passed it across the table. "That's my cell number, how bout you give me a call later on tonight and let me know if your aunt's okay with it and everything?" she suggested.
Skye immediately reached down to her hoodie pocket and checked to see if her cellphone was there. It wasn't. "I'd phone her now and ask, but I'm not used to carrying one with me yet - I guess I forgot it. What time would be best for me to call you?" It didn't occur to her not to ask, now, or not to call Chrissy back. That would be impolite.
She shrugged. "Whenever, really. Don't have much planned for the night, so whenever you can is good." She glanced around the diner again then hearing the bell on the door chime signaling another customer coming into the building. She recognized this customer, it was Thom. "Well, um... Hey, I need to go talk to that guy over there at the counter, but like I said, give me a call. Well iron out the details, kay?"
"I will. Around seven, if that's alright with you?" That'd give Skye a chance to do her homework and for her aunt to get home, and for them both to eat.
"Sure thing. Talk to you then." She smiled and tossed her bag back over her shoulder and stood from the table. "Bye!" Grabbing her cup off the table she made her way up to the counter and Thom, waving over her shoulder at the new girl, her mind quickly on to other things.
