quiet time at lunch

Medea didn't generally eat in the cafeteria--that was more Isabelle's territory, and she was more than happy to leave her sister to taming that crowd. So, she took her food and often found new places to eat, to see if she could meet mroe fringe people in the school social structure. It was the first day she'd been able to leave her arm sling at home, so she was glad for the freedom that gave her, even if she was still bruised a bit. She just didn't heal well enough to be fully better yet.

So, finding a little area by the gym to settle herself on the floor, lunch tugged out of it's bag, she opened up her abnormal psych book, and started skimming over things she'd already read. She knew that there was a funeral today for the old queen bee...that was making the environment in school interesting. Now all she had to do was hope someone came by who didn't want to be alone.

Hunger wasn't exactly top priority to Kavin at the moment. He had a funeral to go to in just a few short hours and he was really just trying to deal with that and dealing with a funeral on the horizon wasn't suiting his stomach very well. Eating food was definitely out. As was the cafeteria with the chatter about ghosts because, well he was damn tired of hearing about them at the moment. He felt like that's all anyone had said to him the whole damn day.

So he'd decided to wander around for a while, at least til his next class, or until he decided to say 'fuck it' and get the hell outta the school for a while. It was in his walking that he happened upon Medea sitting near the gym eating. He hadn't really said much to the girl since the party, but he wasn't just going to walk by her and not say anything at all. Besides, he kind of wondered why she was sitting all by herself and not in the cafeteria with everyone else.

Coming to a halt a few steps away from her, he gave her a smile. "Not in the mood for the cafeteria 'lunch'?" he asked, making little air quotes with his fingers and then shifting his bag on his shoulder.

Looking up, Medea smiled. "Hi, Kavin." she greeted. She hadn't seen much of him since first meeting him at his party, but that was less by design, and more by accident. But she was happy to talk to him now. "I'm brown bagging it...I just didn't feel like sticking around in that environment for the day. You too?" she asked, holding up an apple slice for him in case he wanted it. It was also a silent offer for him to join her.

He took the slice of apple and slid his bag off his shoulder and sat himself down beside her. "I'm not really in the mood to deal with a lot of people. Not that there's all that many people around today but the ones that are here don't seem to know that talking about the ghosts doesn't make them go away. I'm tired of hearing about them. They're there. We don't know why. They probably don't know why. The end." he sighed and shook his head. "How've you been?" he asked her as he took a bite of the apple slice she'd offered him.

She gave him a sympathetic smile. "I know what you mean there. I'm kind of growing weary of hearing it too, thus sitting by myself today. That and I keep hearing about the funeral...and it seems to me that people didn't even really like her all that well. So, I don't know. It all seems kind of contrived to me, and that turns my stomach. Figured I'd get out of there and get some peace and quiet. But you? Are perfectly welcome, my friend." she said, setting the apple slices she had and the rest of her lunch between them so he could share in any of it he wanted. "Generally, I've been well." she said, wondering if he had caught sight of her with the sling, and she decided to drop it in there. "Finally got to leave my sling at home today, so that's a good thing."

He hadn't even remembered the sling until she spoke of it. "I think I saw you with that." he acknowledged. "What happened?" he questioned. "I mean, if you wanna talk about that, and if you don't, that's totally cool." Kavin then went back on the Chrissy funeral crap. He understood what Medea meant. A lot of people would be going to the funeral that hated the very air Chrissy Chapman breathed. Kavin being one of them. "As for the funeral... I'm going, but... not for the reasons you might think and that might be a sucky ass thing for me to say with her being dead and all, but there's more to my motives for going than it just being some chick that sought out people only to torment them."

"Remember the night that there were all the animal attacks?" Medea asked, thinking someone would have had to be living under a rock to not remember that. "My..." she smiled and feigned sweet embarrassment for a moment. "I think he's my boyfriend...Porter, we were out walking, and got attacked. He pushed me out of the way, and I landed kinda wrong. I don't heal really well and I'm fairly easy to injure. I was a sickly kid." she explained. "I jarred my elbow pretty bad, but it's slightly better now. I just wanted to be out of that stupid thing." Then she paused, munching on some more apple as she regarded him. "Why are you going then?"

He remembered alright. He nodded when she asked him. The name 'Porter' didn't sound familiar and for a moment he wondered how someone wasn't sure whether someone was dating them or not, but then again, he wasn't exactly the king of relationships to begin with so he didn't mention that. He paid more attention to the fact that she'd been attacked. She'd said the Porter kid pushed her out of the way, so he was fairly certain she hadn't been bitten, but what about the boy? "Did he get hurt?" he questioned, hoping he didn't sound too concerned about a boy he didn't know. "And as for Chrissy well... Gabe, he's my friend and they dated and it sucks for him, so I'm going kinda for moral support for him I guess. And because bitch or not, I'd hate for no one to show up to my funeral ya know?"

"No, just kinda bruised up." Medea said, being vague there, though she didn't sound like she was being vague. She just didn't especially want to share Porter's secret, not unless it gained her something, and currently it didn't. "And I doubt you two'll be the only ones there. I'm sure most of the school'll show up, even if they're just pretending to mourn. Still though, that's really sweet of you to go for Gabe." she said, giving him a light smile.

Bruised up didn't sound too bad. He didn't want to press more and draw attention to his need to know about the boy and his condition. "Well that's good. Glad he's not hurt. Bruised is way better than what happened to a lot of people." he said, shaking his head at the mental image of Chrissy when he'd found her that night. "And yeah, I just feel kinda bad letting him be there with all those people who don't give a rats ass about Chrissy. They're there to pretend and get pity for themselves and stupid shit. I didn't like the girl, hell half the time Gabe didn't like the girl, but it's still gotta suck losing someone you've known that long."
