Sex, Flowers, and Stuffed Animals
Who: Dorian and Eury
Where: Phone Calls
When: Night
Dorian was exhausted. Utterly and completely exhausted. And damn thankful he'd already decided he wasn't going into work the next day. There was one thing left to do though, and that was make sure his paintball partner was still interested in joining him. The store was taken care of and by the time he returned, he'd have been gone for a full three days. Already he was starting to feel better. Picking up the phone, he dialed Eury's number, waiting as it rang.
Eury picked up the phone on the second ring. "Hello?" she asked, pausing as she stirred the pot on the stove, in the midst of cooking herself something to eat.
"Hey, lovely," Dorian said, smiling a little at the sound of her voice. It was good to hear from a friend, even if he initiated the call. "Care to skip work with me tomorrow? I believe you promised me a game of paint ball."
"Hi!" she said brightly in return, obviously pleased to hear from him. "How goes?" she asked. "I haven't heard from you in a few days! Skipping work sounds lovely! I did in fact promise you, and good for you, I'm a woman of my word! What time?"
"It's been a crazy couple of days," he said. At some point he'd have to sit down and tell her about it. Not right now, though, not on the phone. Some of it was still too fresh and some of it he... he just didn't want her to know about yet. "Any time is good for me, really. I've got the whole day off."
"Well, how about I'll clear my schedule, and you can come get me whenever you'd like." Eury said. "Feel free to wake me up if I'm not down in the shop or anything, I'll leave the door unlocked for you. Sound good?" she asked. If she was going to be taking the day off, she may as well do it right and sleep in being lazy.
"I'll do that," Dorian grinned. It sounded crazy, but he liked it. He wasn't planning on jumping out of bed himself, but once he did, he'd head over and pick her up. "You sure it's safe to leave your door unlocked?" he teased. "Strange men might wander in. They might do more than wake you up."
"Like attack me with affection and flowers? What an excellent idea." Eury teased right back. "Maybe I should look into having a sign. 'My door is unlocked should anyone want to come in and accost me with sweetness'." she laughed. "Yes, sweetheart, I'm sure I'm safe from the strange men."
"Just saying," Dorian laughed. Affection and flowers weren't really his style, but he just might bring her breakfast. "I guess that's not near as dangerous as 'my door is unlocked, should anyone want to come in and ravish me'. It's all in the wording, isn't it?"
"Well I could go the ravishing route, but I like a person to make some effort first. You know, grand gestures, affectionate gifts, getting to know them before they decided to ravish me. Not that I mind that part. That part's usually quite nice." Eury said, taking her pot off of the stove and straining noodles.
"Oh, so I wouldn't be welcome?" Dorian asked. "No grand gestures or affectionate gifts. And here I thought I could just wander into your bedroom," he smirked. "I'll have to keep that in mind. I've been doing it all wrong for years! I always thought it was the other way around, with the ravishing then the gifts." Just, in his case, it never made it past the ravishing.
"Well, see? That's your problem then. Silly man. What were you thinking? Of course it has to be the other way around. Got to butter people up before the other parts, it always winds up better. If you don't know anything about them, you can't begin to guess what they might like, you know. So it's all shots in the dark, premature ejaculation and promises of 'I'll call you' when really you're just laying there going 'well that sucked!'. Much better my way." Eury assured him.
"What's the correlation between gifts and sex that prevents one from being good without the other?" Dorian asked. "By your explanation, I could do a better job at getting you off if I bought you chocolate and jewelry first. I've heard that chocolate is a natural aphrodisiac, but that's a little extreme." This was so not where he expected this conversation to go when he picked up the phone, but he had no complaints. The whole thing amused him, and that was what he needed.
"Well, that's because you're an unobservant man, dear." Eury said with a 'poor thing' sort of tone. And with undercurrents of speaking to a child. "If you give someone something, you learn more about them. If you go for flowers, what kind of flowers does she like? Is she the romantic, simple roses type? Might be some plain vanilla there going on. Does she not like flowers? Does she want something exotic? Candy and teddybears'll get you more of your straight up normal kinds of girls. And if you're doing the jewelry thing, if she asks for a spiked leather wrist cuff? Then you might be in for more of a rough ride."
"Obviously, you're right," Dorian said, grinning. "So, if I were to buy you flowers, what would you like? You don't seem like a red rose kind of girl." He asked the question without really thinking about it, as it went with the conversation. He was honestly impressed with how much thought went into such a simple question, making him even more aware of how little he knew about women. "Somehow I don't see myself buying a teddybear for a girl," he chuckled.
"Teddybear girls would bore you." Eury said with confidence. Then she thought. "Hmm. Flowers. What would I like? Bird of Paradise." she answered firmly. Which was tropical, and a good chunk of people hadn't even heard of. She liked them, though.
Leave it to Eury to come up with an answer that confusing. Dorian wasn't quite sure if she'd named a flower or an animal, but it was unique either way. "Now, where am I supposed to find a Bird of Paradise?" he asked, not even aware that it was tropical, but pretty sure it was rare. "I don't suppose you'll settle for breakfast instead? I can pick up something on the way. What would you like?"
"Birds of Paradise you probably won't find here. Like, at all. They're tropical, and they're beautiful and strange. They almost look plastic, but not quite, and they sometimes look like bugs, but not really." Eury explained. "But they're bright, and I like them because they're apart from the norm. Breakfast is fine. Anything you'd like. We weren't discussing you having to supply me with gifts or flowers." she said, sounding amused.
"No, we weren't," he agreed. "Nor do I plan to ravish you tomorrow morning. I should hope that would take more than cinnamon rolls and coffee. I just thought food would be nice before we go shoot at each other. Do you need to borrow anything? I have all sorts of gear around here. It might be huge on you though." He'd have to dig through it and see what he had. It'd been a long time since he sorted through some of those boxes.
"Psh! Heck no, I've got it covered. I'm a tough girl. And whatever you pick up is fine, I'll look forward to seeing you!" Eury said genuinely. "Get some rest, tomorrow's war. I'm going to go eat dinner then crash so I can be an effective soldier tomorrow. I take my paintball battles seriously, you know." she teased.
"Oh, I'm sure you do. I'm prepared for you to kick my ass, you know," Dorian grinned. This as something he was actually pretty good at and probably wouldn't turn out quite so bad, but he didn't really want to sound like that. There was always the chance that she'd rock at it. It really wouldn't surprise him. "Sleep well, Eury. I'll see you in the morning."
"You two, honey!" Eury said, smiling before hanging up the phone. She was looking forward to tomorrow now, in a giddy, girly sort of way that she was aware was silly. But...she liked Dorian. And she liked spending time with him. So she was counting it as a good thing no matter what.
