So... it's a date?

Who: Dorian and Joey
When: Around sunset
Where: Joey's Cafe

With the news of recent animal attacks, the cafe had been much slower than usual after nightfall. Joey was well aware of what was out there, and out of concern for her employees, she sent most of the home around dusk and locked up on her own. She was absolutely sure she could take care of herself, and if she were faced with a dire situation, well... that's what her wings were for. Werewolves, thankfully, couldn't fly. Generally on Friday's she had a couple staff members throughout the day until closing time, but Joey slimmed down the schedule to include only she and Patty up until seven. If things were still slow, she would send Patty home and probably lock up early. The way the vacant cafe looked now? Joey was pretty sure it would be a very slow, short day.

At the moment, she sat near the iron fireplace toward the back of the cafe with a cup of coffee and the employee schedule, tapping the pencil absently against the table as she tried to focus on the task at hand rather than the fact that Marquette had a werewolf on the loose. And given it was a full moon, there would no doubt be more shifters wandering about later. It was disconcerting, and she couldn't help but wonder how many people would get hurt before sunrise.

There weren't a huge number of people in Marquette that Dorian felt the need to warn, but Joey was one of them. She seemed like she could take care of herself, but even the most prepared person might not expect a werewolf to attack. And with all the attacks leading up to tonight, there were bound to be more than just a few cursed werewolves running around town. As it got closer to nightfall, Dorian closed up shop as well, heading down the street and hoping to catch Joey. She was right where she'd been the first time he met her. "Tonight's a bad night to stay out late," he said with a smile. "Did you drive to work, or did you walk?" Yes, his questions were abrupt, but he wasn't one to dance around the situation.

Joey glanced up when Dorian walked in the cafe and smiled as he approached. Her eyebrow arched curiously, however, at his form of greeting. She set down her pencil and leaned back against her chair. She knew it was the full moon, and she knew it was a bad night to be out. She had no intention of staying out any later than necessary. "I drove," she answered with a small smile. "Don't worry about me... I'm well versed in what goes on during a full moon. You're driving home yourself, I hope?" It was kind of sweet that he had come down to check on her - if in fact that was what he was doing.

"I'm not sure this full moon should be handled quite the same," he said, coming over to take a seat beside her. "There's been all those attacks, and I believe there's gonna be more crazed werewolves out than usual. I drove, just in case you needed a ride," Dorian said with a little smile. "So how are things with you?" he asked, jumping into something that was much more normal as far as greetings went. His focus had been on her safety, but if she wasn't walking home, then it might not be so bad. She just needed to keep her time outside to a minimum.

"I appreciate that you thought of me," Joey told him, sighing as she glanced out the window to the darkening sky. "I suppose I ought to lock up early. I had a feeling with the rash of attacks lately, something worse would come of it." She began to gather her papers, thankful that he drove as well. She had a feeling she would be stopping to give anyone she saw walking outside a ride home. "Things are okay with me, thanks. Nothing terribly exciting." She glanced up to his face with a small smile. "I met your brother."

"My brother?" Dorian said, brows raising slightly. That... could be a bad thing. It might not be, but it could be, and that part made him nervous. "Which one? Older or younger?" he asked. He couldn't help but hope it was Caleb, because if it was Mathias, then he had no chance with her in comparison. But since when did he think about Joey like that at all? Dorian wasn't all that fond of putting labels on relationships, but sometimes they were necessary in understanding the boundaries of those around him.

"Mathias," Joey said, tidying her papers in front of her before she folded her arms on the table and smiled at Dorian. "He was, er, building a snowman. Or something that was suppose to be a snowman. We got to talking and I realized you two were related." It had been a rather interesting conversation to say the least, and she was still debating whether or not to tell Dorian how Mathias had been asking her what she thought of Dorian. It would probably embarrass the guy, and she couldn't decide whether that would be a bad thing - or a cute thing.

"Math must've been really bored if he was building a snowman," Dorian said with a little smile. He'd have to tease his brother about it later, though he didn't really want him to jump town. "He didn't ask you out, did he?" he asked, trying not to seem uncomfortable with the question. If Mathias knew they were friends, he might not have gone that route, but he wasn't sure how the conversation had transpired.

"It really turned more into a snow rabbit... or something." She chuckled and shook her head, thinking that neither of them would be professional snowmen builders anytime soon. Admittedly, Joey was a bit taken back by Dorian's question and she arched a dark eyebrow in response. It seemed a bit abrupt, but valid, she supposed. Her smile didn't fade, though it was slightly more curious. "No, he didn't ask me out." She would have asked why it mattered, but she simply assumed Dorian would explain the question once she answered it.

"My brother can be rather charming when he wants to be," Dorian said with a little laugh. "It's not a skill I acquired. In fact, I think I get worse as I get older." In situations like this, all he could seem to do was put his foot in his mouth. Mathias wasn't Aiden; he didn't have to worry about Mathias chasing after a girl he liked... or might like... or whatever this weird feeling was. Dorian wasn't all that fond of exploring his emotions, as it usually left him less than happy. "I hope he was nice, then. And didn't say anything to embarrass me."

Well, she supposed that was something. She wondered what his response would have been if Joey had said Mathias had asked her out. Maybe she was hoping Dorian wanted to ask her out himself, but... silly to be even thinking that when they were just getting to know one another. And after the Ash disaster... anyway! Joey's smile was relaxed again and she nodded, tapping her pencil gently against her papers. "Yes, he was charming, and yes, he was polite. He wanted to know what I thought of you. I suppose he was looking out for you, making sure I wasn't some kind of succubus or what not. And you know, you've got other things going for you other than charm, so I wouldn't worry about that."

"He wanted to know-- and you don't find that embarrassing?" Dorian laughed, his face turning the slightest bit red as he ran his fingers through his hair. "I know you're not some kind of a succubus. Or, if you are, you work very slowly," he grinned. Hopefully she took that as a compliment, since it was meant to be something like that. It definitely wasn't an insult. Jules would be a more likely candidate in the succubus category. "I'm glad you think I've got something working for me. I don't know what it is, but maybe it'll be enough to get me a date." The second the words were out of his mouth, Dorian wondered what the hell he was doing and could he just disappear now because that would be great.

"I didn't find it embarrassing," Joey exclaimed with a laugh of her own. "But I was afraid you would." The soft color in his face made it clear he was maybe mildly embarrassed, but it was rather adorable in a strange way. She waved her hand dismissively. "Believe me, I am no succubus. Only being able to achieve orgasm if the man isn't willing? Honestly, I couldn't fathom that kind of existence." Joey picked up her coffee to take a sip, though her eyes ticked to his at his comment. Drinking coffee definitely gave her the time to analyze it and respond properly. Did he mean it would be enough to get a date with her? Or with women in general? Joey realized she had to tread carefully here. She set her coffee cup back onto the table carefully and smiled. "I could tell you what it is that you've got going for you, but I'm afraid it would take something away from your entire mystique, if you knew. I think it's definitely enough, however, to get you a date." There, that was general enough, she supposed.

There were a lot of things he could say in relation to the succubus comment, but none of them seemed appropriate. Such as the fact that some women were never thought to achieve orgasm at all, and that seemed a far worse fate than forcing a man to get there. He certainly couldn't say that, because what the hell would that mean? Instead he had to try and figure out her answer, after he'd gone and said something stupid. Or, he thought he had. Her answer felt far more cryptic than he thought his comment had been. "And here I didn't think I was capable of mystique," Dorian smiled. "So does this mean I can ask you out when werewolves aren't rampaging all over town? Cause tonight might be a bad night to try and make something happen. Unless you're into that kind of adrenaline rush." Cause he sure as hell was. A werewolf hunt just didn't seem like a date activity.

Joey felt herself relax a bit, relieved to learn he was talking about a date with her. She was cautious, in the back of her mind, because of her prior experiences ending in disaster, but Dorian felt different. She didn't have to tell him she was an angel. Maybe he would be like Ash and could figure out the signs, but she'd deal with it if it ever came to that point. Hopefully it wouldn't. "I think you're capable of a lot more than you think," she stated simply before resting her chin on her palm and smiling mischievously. "I'm all anything that produces adrenaline, although I think dodging werewolves might be more of a third date type thing. Maybe we could try something a bit more... er, simple first."

He thought that she might have tentatively accepted a date with him, but he wasn't quite sure, since he hadn't actually proposed one. While there should have been a thousand different options for a rush before werewolf hunting, Dorian couldn't seem to think of one that was even slightly the norm. But what was the norm when dodging werewolves was even up for consideration? "Do you happen to have plans for Halloween?" he asked with a smile. "I think I can come up with something by then that won't put your life in danger. Unless you wanna go grave dancing or something like that, which always brings about the risk of being cursed."

"As much fun as grave dancing sounds, I'd like to avoid being cursed at all costs, if that's okay with you." She couldn't help but chuckle softly at the image it projected. "However, I'm not at all opposed to doing something with you on Halloween." Joey paused and then lifted her eyebrow. "As long as I don't have to dress up." The last 'date' she had been on she'd gone as a sexy devil and... yeah, that night hadn't ended as well as she'd hoped it would. No need to jinx this one too.

"No dressing up," Dorian laughed. "I promise. I'm not really one for costumes myself, so I'd prefer to avoid it." He could only see that ending in disaster. Dorian had no idea what he'd do if required to dress up, so he was relieved she didn't want to go in that direction. At least they seemed to be zeroing in on something they'd both enjoy. "I'll have to see if I can line up some of those old horror movies or something like that. It sounds a little tame, but I think it's a pretty safe route. What do you say?"

"It'll be Halloween... in a town currently overrun with werewolves. I think I'll take tame for one night," Joey said, pleased with the idea. Hanging out and watching a scary movie on Halloween was less intimidating than going out to a fancy dinner. That kind of stuff was fun every once in awhile, but definitely not for a first date. If that's what this actually was. Joey wasn't still entirely sure. She grinned at him. "I'll bring the hot chocolate and snacks, if you want."

It wasn't really the sort of date that impressed a girl, so Dorian was glad she seemed pleased with the offer. He used to put so much thought into these kind of things, but now all he really wanted to do was enjoy her company with a spatter of entertainment. It only occurred to him after the offer that this would require him to clean the house. "That'd be great. I can supply pizza, or Chinese take out," he laughed. Cooking was not his specialty, so he wouldn't even try. She'd be happier with something ordered in. "What time do you get off work? I can pick you up, or meet you here," Dorian offered.

"Oh! I haven't had chinese food in ages. General Tso's and a scary black and white film? I think I'll be in heaven," Joey said with a contented sigh. And she wouldn't have to worry about getting dressed up, or how to wear her hair. It sounded almost too good to be true. "I'll be finished here about five. If you want to pick me up at my place around six thirty, that would be great. Give me enough time to wash the coffee smell from my hair," she grinned.

"Not that I would mind the smell of coffee, but that's fine," Dorian smiled. "I'll pick you up at six thirty, we'll have Chinese food and watch a movie, and you'll bring the goodies." That actually sounded like a lot of fun, even if she didn't turn out to be interested in him. And he thought she might be, since she'd accepted without attempting to confirm that they were just friends. Dorian rose from his seat, casting a glance towards the front window, then back to her. "Don't stay out too late. Those things move fast and they'll be changing about now."

"Definitely. I think I'll be closing here in about five minutes anyway," she said, standing from her chair to follow him to the door and lock it after him. She definitely wanted to get home and lock the doors. Her dog was no doubt already cowering under the bed. "Be careful tonight, all right?" Joey didn't know what he had planned, but hopefully it would include staying inside and safe. Despite the full moonness of the night, she was already looking forward to Halloween. She just had to work on surviving until then.
