Why can't you see what I see?

Who: Kyle and Kavin
When: Night
Where: Phonelines

Kavin realized that he hadn't talked to Kyle in what felt like forever. He knew how everyone else was handling the ghosts, at least those close to him. Gabe and Charlotte, well he wasn't talking to them at the moment, Nate he knew was okay, Jeri was sleeping in the guest bed, so he knew she was alright, and Isaac and Peyton were good too. So next on the list was Kyle, so he slipped out of the guest room and grabbed his cell, hoping it wasn't too late to call and dialing his friends number. He listened to the ringing and was half tempted to hang up, but he'd at least leave a message first.

Half expecting it to be Alexis, Kyle turned over in his bed, away from his phone to ignore it. He was watching some shitty horror movie on tv and... it was a hell of a lot better than whatever she might have to say to him. Still... after the third ring, Kyle sighed and rolled back over to snatch his phone from his table. When he saw it was Kavin, he quickly answered it and rubbed a hand over his eyes after lifting the phone to his ear. "Hey man... everything okay?" It was late, so he assumed something was going on. But if he heard the word 'ghost' he might fucking break something.

Well, he was alive, that was something. "Yeah. Everything's fine, just... hadn't talked to you in like forever. Not too late is it?" he questioned, raising a brow. He wasn't sure how exactly to bring up the ghosts to Kyle, so he figured he'd wait a minute or two. Maybe beat around the bush until the other boy brought it up. "What are you up to?"

"Nah, it's not too late. I'm not doing much," he admitted. "Watching some shitty movie on the Sci-Fi channel." Every other channel had the shitty hoax videos. "What about you? Haven't been able to talk to you in awhile, with all the shit going on. Animals and stuff." Kyle sighed and closed his eyes. "Please don't mention anything about ghosts and I'll be cool, okay?"

Again his brow rose slightly and he was wondering why Kyle didn't want him to talk about ghosts. "Uh, okay... lot of people been asking about ghosts or something?" he questioned as he plopped himself down on the sofa and leaned back against the arm of the piece of furniture. "Sounds like you're not too happy with hearing about them, I'm guessing."

"No one's been asking me about them... well, Alexis texted me saying she was afraid because there was a ghost outside of her house, or something. I mean, Jesus, Kavin... the shit on tv? Could have been faked. People giving into mass hysteria, or paranoia. It's fucking crazy." Frustrated all over again, Kyle sat up and flipped off his tv with the remote. "They say they're everywhere? I haven't seen one fucking thing... not one and all of the sudden I'm suppose to believe in ghosts or some shit. What's next? Santa Claus? Come on."

Well, it wasn't fake, Kavin knew that much, but Kyle hadn't seen anything? That was just fucking ridiculously crazy. "You haven't seen anything?" he questioned, raising a brow. He wasn't about to say that he'd seen anything either, but he wanted Kyle talking. Wanted to know if maybe he just hadn't been outside and that was why. Maybe there weren't any in his house. Or maybe he had seen things and he was just in denial.

"I haven't seen a damn thing, dude. Not even a shadow. If these things are everywhere? Why am I not seeing them? It's just bullshit. Alexis got pissy with me over text about it, if you can believe it. Like I'm fucking blind or something, or ignorant. Pissed me off." Which was evident in his voice. "I went skating after school, since practice was cancelled. I walked to the library to drop off some stuff, walked home... saw nothing. And the people who were in the library, or walked by me? Didn't seem like they were seeing anything either." Kyle paused to calm himself. It wasn't Kavin's fault he was irritated. "Not everyone has to believe in the Loch Ness monster, you know? I don't see these things, I don't believe in them to begin with, and I'm a prick for that apparently."

Kavin blinked and shook his head as he furrowed his brow. "Well, if you didn't see anything, it's not your fault. Maybe you're a lucky one and everyone else is insane." he shrugged. He was more than a little confused. Kyle had been all those different places and hadn't seen a single ghost? That was just... fucking unexplainable. How did he get through the whole damn day and not see anything?

"I'm starting to think this was some kind of terrorist attack." Actually he had just thought of that one. "Some sick fuck put something in the water and now everyone's seeing shit. Or they're all high on LSD or something." Kyle sighed. "I didn't see anything... and since Alexis bitched at me, I've been looking out my window all night. I saw a black cat, a guy riding his bike - totally alive by the way - and a garbage bag roll down the street. Just don't get why I have to expand my beliefs for something I can't see with my own two eyes." Frowning, he paused. "You're not going to tell me you've seen ghosts, are you?"

He opened his mouth to say something, but closed it again and paused. "You told me not to mention ghosts." he reminded him. "So I'm not going to tell you anything." He was too busy trying to figure out why Kyle wasn't seeing them to care about much of anything else. What could he possibly have going on that kept him from seeing what everyone else in the whole damn city, hell, the country and probably farther than that, was seeing?

"Aw, hell, Kavin," Kyle groaned. "You've seen them too, right? Or at least thought you have. You know what it feels like? Invasion of the Body Snatchers... everyone who goes to sleep wakes up and sees ghosts. Not quite like that, but you get it." He was starting to get agitated again. There was frustration that everyone was seeing this shit, and fear because he wasn't and he was really starting to think they were all going insane. Everyone talked about the weird shit in Marquette, didn't they? He'd never seen any of it, but that didn't mean people didn't buy into it. "Where are they all hanging out? Where should I go then so I can experience this first hand?"

"They're kinda... all over." he said, furrowing his brow. "And I'm not saying you're a freak for not seeing them or anything, I just... can't figure out why you wouldn't be seeing them." he shrugged, though the gesture went unseen. "I mean... as far as I can tell, outta all the people I talk to, you're like the only one who hasn't seen anything."

Maybe because they're not real? He couldn't explain why other people thought they were seeing things... though drugs seemed like a good explanation. Something... not ghosts. "I don't know what to tell you, man. No one I've been around was seeing anything either, that I can tell. I imagine if someone was seeing a ghost while they walked by me, I would have seem some kind of reaction."

"Yeah." Kavin agreed easily. That was logical. He couldn't argue with that. "Ya know what... we should do a test. If all this shit is still going on tomorrow... how bout I call you, tell you where I'm seeing ghosts and you come by and tell me what you see? I'm fucking confused and either me and the rest of the town... the country whatever, are on drugs, or something fucked up is going on."

Kyle thought that over before reluctantly agreeing. This own situation was fucked up. But at least Kavin wasn't getting snappy with him the way Alexis had on his phone. "Yeah, okay. You gonna be at school tomorrow?" It was Chrissy's funeral after school, and he knew he's be going, at least to keep Gabe company.

"Might as well." he smiled. "Catch the teachers giving out decent grades by default right? Can't get in trouble for sleeping through class when no one else is there and they aren't really teaching anyways, right?" Kavin had every intention of eating up the fact that most of the classes would be easy as pie the following day just like they had been today. And besides, he wanted to figure out what was going on with Kyle and why he wasn't seeing the ghosts.

Kyle chuckled. "True. Gotta get a good grade for at least showing up, right?" He doubted his mom would let him get away with skipping, or not going in at all. Plus, he saw no reason not to go. "If you're going, I'm sure I'll see you there. Text me in class or something if you see any ghosts. I'm getting tired of people talking about them, but not seeing them, if they're real." Which he was still doubtful was the case. It all seemed too... Hollywood. And stupid.

"I'll text ya and let you know." he promised. "And if not... maybe after the funeral we can test theories or something. You're going to the funeral right?" he questioned, mostly as an afterthought. If he hadn't found Chrissy, he might not have gone. Well, no, actually he probably would have. She was a crazy, annoying, popular ball of hatred but he didn't want her dead. And even if he was fighting with Gabe at the moment, he didn't want him to have to go through the whole thing alone.

"Yeah, I'll be there. Figure I should go for Gabe or something." Kyle laid back down, mentally daring some ghost to pop into his room and prove his crazy friends right. Yeah, that was doubtful. Ghosts didn't exist. "I'll see you tomorrow, okay?"

"Right. Talk to you later, Kyle. Night." Kavin said, pulling the phone away from his face and flipping it closed. He didn't see the ghosts? That was just... freaking weird. Whatever the reason, Kavin was pretty set on figuring it out. There were ghosts and for some reason, Kyle seemed immune to them or something. That was a mystery that was going to take some looking into.
