Zombie reunion

Who: Medea and Nate
Where: MSHS
When: morning...

As the bell rang, Nate made his way to the hallway with the flood of kids gagging to get out of the sleep inducing class. He had slept in there and as soon as he got outside he got his bottle of orange juice from his bag to get rid of the bad taste in his mouth. Aside from being groggy as hell he really needed to stop sleeping at school or he'd be looking at another round of being a junior. He had ten minutes until the next class and was about to find a spot somewhere out of the way to sit down at when he spotted Medea down the hall. He hadn't run into her the day before so it was actually the first time he'd meet her sober. Making his way toward her he waved to get her attention, grinning a little shyly. "Hey zombie bride," he said, pulling his backpack up higher on his shoulder and taking a sip of his OJ. "We meet again."

Looking around, Medea beamed when she saw Nate, something that she did deliberately. She looked like she lit right up, that his presence fully effected her state of being. "Hi!" she said. "How's the zombie hubby?" she asked. "We do in fact, meet again. God, it must be a small town or something." she said, a little playfully. "Ooh, can I have a drink of that?" she asked, looking at his OJ.

He nodded and handed her the bottle, calming right down at her reaction. He had somewhat been expecting to get the cold shoulder for some reason. But no, seemed like this town was ripe with nice pretty girls, though it certainly had its share of bitchy as he'd found out earlier that morning when he got some Looks from a group of cheerleader types. But no, not Medea whose attitude really did brighten his day. "Have any trouble getting that make-up off?" He asked her. "I was beginning to think I'd be walking around with bruises for the rest of the week."

She took a drink, and smiled. "Thank you." she said. "I have a high metabolism...I'm kind of always hungry and thirsty." she explained sheepishly. Then she laughed. "Oh god, seriously, I was in the shower for ages she told him--pretty much putting that image in his head deliberately, just to see what kind of reaction she might get. If he looked like he got tripped up on the image, if he didn't think about it at all...everything was just a system of small assessments, tiny tests.

Other than a sheepish grin she didn't get much of a reaction out of him but of course his mind went there. Wet dark hair against wet skin, her eyes closed and lips parted under a stream of water... It was hard not to go there. "You can keep the OJ then," he told her. "I'll get something after school, wouldn't want you to disappear or nothing."

She laughed. "Oh, thank you that's really sweet but no. Here you go." she said, handing it back to him. "I do prepare for it and all. Plus after school...that's such a long time for you to wait! Can't have that." she said with a warm looking smile. He looked like he'd gotten at least a little tripped up on the image. That was a positive thing.

He took it back with a shrug. "If you're sure," he muttered, closing it and stuffing it back in his bag. "So, there's going to be a bonfire this weekend, I thought you and your sister might wanna show. It's us new kids trying to branch out or whatever. Not sure where yet but it's on Friday night. You wanna come?"

"Oh, really? That's so sweet of you to invite us! We'd love to go!" she said, automatically. Isabelle wouldn't mind her making plans for the both of them. She looked excited, and she bounced on the balls of her feet for a moment. "Um, do you think you could help us get out there, wherever it is?" she asked. It wasn't like they had transportation.

"Yeah of course," Nate replied with a bright grin. "I can either get the car or fix us up with a ride." Okay so he was totally failing at bringing the boys to the bonfire but girls were more suited for that task anyway. "Wouldn't make you walk."

Medea laughed. "Probably best for all involved, we'd probably get lost." she said in what appeared to be a good natured way. "Then we'd be wandering around, lost, and it'd be a big mess, and we'd never get to hang out. So, I'd prefer if we skipped that and went straight to the bonfire."

"That's a deal then," Nate replied. "Just wish I could call you, let you know when I was on my way. We could meet up somewhere, since your folks aren't all that keen on the whole phone thing. Or you know... folks." What the hell did one call them? Foster parents was the term but it just sounded so odd somehow. Them grown-ups didn't sound a hell of a lot better though and now he felt all sort of awkward. Way to bring up the orphan thing.

Medea ticked her gaze down and away for just a moment, just to give that suggestion of vulnerability, before she seemingly pushed it away with a smile. "You can call, I just don't know that I'll be able to talk long or anything. I'm still trying to look into maybe...tracfones or something, so we can be a little better connected with the world." she said, as usual, automatically talking in 'we's' to include her sister.

"You should," he agreed. "And stop living in the nineties." Even he had a cell phone and he wasn't much of a gadget person, it was old and probably beyond obsolete but it worked. One of those old mobiles that got recalled because they lasted too damn long - at least that's what Frank said. "I mean shit, you're kinda like the modern version of the princess in the tower without one."

"It's called 'we don't have any money of our own and dont' have parents to buy us these things'." Medea said, with a light smile that was mostly sad, or that's how it appeared. "A princess in a tower, huh? Think I'm princess material?" she asked skeptically.

That could all too easily be a trap question. A princess could be beautiful and alluring but a princess could also be weak and annoying. "Uhm. Only in the best way," he replied with a crooked little smile. "I'm pretty sure you could find your way out of a tower on your own."

She laughed softly at that. "Do you consider me capable?" she asked. "That's good. I think I can accept that." she decided. Her tone suggested that she found it a bit on the charming side. Cute, in a way. "So, thank you. I'll take it as a compliment."

"Oh it was intended as one," he assured her, adjusting his bag on his shoulder and stepping to the side to let people pass. "I should get to class," he muttered, not overly thrilled at the idea. "I'll let you know when I know where we're going and all, otherwise just call me and we'll meet up. At least we know -when-. Unless there's a snow storm or something."

Medea laughed. "Hey-there might be!" she said. "But yes, class. Okay, I'll talk to you soon, and again, thanks for the invite! I look forward to seeing you and everything." she said, starting to head off. She made sure she looked back at him though, over her shoulder. Like he had her attention far more than school or anyone around her.

He caught that little look and smiled back at her, that way too pretty girl giving him doe eyes... It was just weird and happy-inducing. The bonfire idea was definitely getting more appealing by the minute.
