Character Profile
Name: Medea Hazel Sullivan
Date of Birth: January 16th
Age: 17
Sex: Female
Appearance:
Pale and rail thin, Medea has a fragile sort of look to her. She's got long dark hair that she generally leaves down in waves. She has hazel eyes that are greenish predominantly, but are a muddled sort of color that isn't quite anything. She's underweight, though that's less by design and more by her metabolism, which runs high. As a girl who's active in theater, her clothing is very eclectic. She doesn't actually adhere to any set style, and her look changes from day to day. The single detail that does not change is an antique bracelet that she wears on her left wrist, that an oval shaped locket dangles from. Inside is a photograph of her mother (though she claims it's her great-grandmother, considering the photograph looks like it was taken in the 1920's).
Tell: Medea has patches of skin on her body that are a mottled blood red. She explains this away by either claiming it's the result of an accident as a child, a skin condition, and rarely a birth mark. She can cover it with make up(and on the case of her cheek she has to) but it's a time consuming process. She's gotten it down pretty well, but she has to pay attention to it, she needs to keep up with it. It also seems to be spreading, when she was a baby the patches were a lot smaller than they are now. Granted, it's taken years to get as large as they are now, but she is concerned one day it'll be a full-body condition.
Special Abilities:
Acting. She's adept at it. It comes naturally to her, and she can play a role that fits her situation very well. She's also good at assessing what type of role she should be assuming depending on who she's with.
Supernatural Affinity (Species/Group): Half Demon(Seiirim)
Supernatural Affinity (Powers):
Medea has Empathy, though it differs from normal psychics. Hers requires physical contact. This means that some of the abilities of other Empaths are unavailable to her, such as she'll never be able to assess another's mood when they aren't present. She's gotten good enough to the point where she can project moods she wants others to pick up on, and is actively trying to get to a place where she can manipulate the moods of others.
Personality:
Medea is a girl with two very different sides. She can seem sweet and caring, a ready shoulder to cry on, compassionate and attentive. She will hang on someone's every word, and remember the details later, rarely forgetting any confidences entrusted to her. She can be your best friend--or your worst enemy. Crossing Medea is never a good idea. And she's learned through the years to not take direct action if she doesn't have to. But something will be done. She can be a vindictive bitch when she wants to be, and that's actually quite often. The public face she presents is just that. A face she presents. Her true nature is much more twisted. She's paying attention because she's waiting for people to reveal to her their weak points. She remembers because everything someone reveals can be turned around later. She's sweet because one catches more flies with honey. But it's all a carefully designed mask. What she truly thrives on is seeing how far she can push people. Seeing if she can make cracks appear in their psyches.
One very clear thing about Medea is she does not view the people around her like people. She sees herself as above them, they are just toys. Interesting little things to mess around with, endless possibilities. The only person who does not fit this category so far is her sister, who she's fiercely loyal to, and protective of...in her own weird ways.
History:
Growing up in Iron Mountain with her father and stepmother, Medea's childhood was one that was punctuated with a lot of trouble. Not necessarily centered on her, but around her, most certainly. Classmates would get ill, injured, a classmate had a close brush with death on the icy sidewalks one christmas. It seemed to follow her--which was because she orchestrated it. She started small, convincing another student to swallow tacks, with the idea that they'd get to go home early. Things like that popped up a lot, though generally went unnoticed for a while. Or deliberately overlooked, due to her supposedly innocent demeanor.
When she was older, her stepmother died. It was ruled an 'accidental' death. It was not. Medea sabotaged the vehicle, and while it took a lot of work and studying to find the best way to do it, she did, and no one was the wiser. Then, it was just her and daddy dearest. Daddy didn't last that long either. It was easy to play off of his depression due to the death of his wife. Easy to twist things around, emotionally manipulating him day in and day out, pushing him in the directions she wanted him to go. It was easy to push the alcoholism he was suffering from, it was easy to set up his 'accidental' overdose. No, it wasn't suicide. It was purely accidental. Though Medea always played it up that she suspected it as intentional. It was very carefully constructed on her part, and was pulled off nicely.
Once in the system, the games really began. She was in and out of foster care for a while, deliberately acting out and causing more focused drama around her. After all, she could, she'd lost her parents, there was a discernible reason to trace back to. It gave her the opportunity to gauge people, how they reacted to her in this capacity. She was hopped around through a lot of different homes during that time.
Her life changed around sixth grade, when she was moved again, placed into the home of a foster care parent who was known for turning around troubled kids. That was when she met Isabelle. Isabelle, who changed her life. Isabelle, who was her half sister. They first found out through the locket bracelets they'd been left with when their birth mother had left, a parting gift. After that they did some digging and found out that they shared a mother. The world changed then. She'd thought she could do things on her own, but the games she and Isabelle could get up to together...those were priceless. Those were elaborate. Those were things they could pull off long term, a neverending game they kept changing the rules on. School was great, them playing things around on everyone around them. Students, teachers, counselors...everyone.
Their most elaborate scheme was when they decided they were a bit tired of the household they were living in. It was deemed pure luck that they happened to be spending the night at a friend's house when their household, the other foster kids and their foster mother died of carbon monoxide poisoning. After that...they were transferred to Marquette, because they had both been through foster families in the area and social workers thought they needed a fresh start, and due to the discovery that they were half siblings, they didn't want to separate the girls.
When she turns 18, Medea will have access to the insurance policy money left to her by her father, but until then it's untouchable. She already has plans for the money, which include getting a place for she and her sister, and going to NMU to study psychology. She wants to become a therapist, of course.
Weaknesses:
Fucked Physiology: Maybe breeding with humans doesn't always work out for the half-demon spawn. This is the case with Medea, who's physiology is a problem, and has many different effects, which include the following: Medea's metabolism is kicked up very high. It means that she needs to eat often, gets headachey and weak feeling if she hasn't in a while, and medication unless given in doses that may be fatal to other people will have no effect. And even if she's given very high doses, it doesn't generally last very long. What this means is if she's ever seriously injured, etc, painkillers aren't going to be very viable to her. Anything else she may need or want to take she won't get the effects from, and even if she does, it's gone in too short an order to make it worth it.
Another aspect of this is Medea isn't physically very fit. She doesn't have a lot of muscle mass(and can't build it, either, she's tried), which means she's very easy to physically overpower. She bruises easily, etc. Most physical fights that she's been a part of have been more along the lines of her instigating it, not her participating. While not paper-easy to tear, she also has skin that tears more easily than others. For instance, what might cause a welt on someone else would cause a scrape on her--another reason she avoids physical confrontation if she can.
Yet another, is her blood is mildly corrosive. Which means she needs to be extremely careful if she's injured, not necessarily because she's terribly concerned about hurting anyone who tries to help her if she's bleeding, but that would be very difficult to explain to a physician. She's aware of the fact that her physical conditions need to be monitored and she needs to be careful not to give anyone excuses to examine her, or otherwise. Basically, she has symptoms of a lot of different conditions, but doesn't necessarily have any of them.
Supernaturally Uneducated: For being a half demon, Medea has not had a lot of contact with the supernatural. Not living in Marquette which tends to be a hotbed of weird, she and her sister were more or less the only 'other' types in their age group at the very least, and if there were others at school or around, they never found out about it. She and her sister are aware they can't be the only ones in the world, but Iron Mountain didn't have a place like Nevermore around, so the only information they could drum up was unreliable internet info. So, she's a bit undereducated when it comes to things like that, and really has to start hitting the books or seeking out others with 'abilities'. So far, the fact that they're half demons is unknown, though it's on their list of 'possibilities', particularly due to Isabelle's more severe allergy to holy ground, etc.
Scociopathic Tendencies: Medea really just doesn't have the same view of the world that everyone else does. Her demonic heritage has heavily played into her emotional and mental mindset, and it is in fact, completely fucked up. She honestly views normal people as lesser beings, just toys, really. Playthings. Things put in the world so she has something amusing to mess around with. Her jury is still out on other supernatural type of beings, but mostly she's looking to find one to make into she and her sister's pawn, if possible. So even in that case, it's likely she'd have more respect for them--but not full respect. She has no regard for other's feelings, even if she can feign it well. She has absolutely no sense of remorse for anything she's done to anyone, including those who've died when they were in her way. There are very definite parts of a human emotional system that are flat out missing for her.
Dislike of Crowds: One thing that often bothers Medea is tightly packed crowds. She's a girl who would absolutely detest being at a concert, for example. Or shopping during christmas season. This is because if she's got a lot of people bumping into her, she's getting a lot of flashes of emotion off of them that isn't hers, and it's enough to make her massively uncomfortable, and give her a migraine. At school, she generally hangs back, and will wait until the first rush out of classrooms has gone past before she'll brave the hallways, and she'll avoid the lunch room, etc. At her sister's games, she will generally not sit in the stands, but off to the side unless she has a specific agenda. If she's forced to be in situations like that for any length of time, she'll get irritable and feel the need to leave in pretty spectacularly short order.
Overconfidence: Medea is working on a God Complex, and while it isn't quite to that level yet, it's getting there. She really does think she's that much better than everyone around her, that there isn't anyone she can't find a way to break or use. No one she can't manipulate to some degree, to get what she wants. All those peeons...they're just pawns, after all, in her and Isabelle's game.
Susceptibility: Something she shares with her sister, Medea is more susceptible to any kind of blessing, holy ground, etc. than other half demons. She isn't nearly as bad as a full demon, of course, but the effects start after a much shorter duration than other half demons. There was a reason she ran out on her father's funeral so early in the service. As little as ten minutes spent on holy ground or near blessed items or angels, she starts to get sick, nausea and headaches that can progress to cramps, nosebleeds, and seizure if she remains in the vicinity. Wearing a religious item like a cross, etc, causes an itchy rash that spreads all over. If left in contact with her skin for a long time she can develop hives and oozing sores. Also, specifically to Medea, her tell-marks will start feeling feverish, and may even start becoming sores themselves, until she's out of the sphere of influence of the holy ground/blessing.
Strengths:
Intelligent--While physically frail, Medea is a very, very sharp little cookie with a damn good, long memory(not photographic, but near). She could have skipped grades if her home-life hadn't been as sketchy as it had been, and she switched schools as often as she did. She's coldly brilliant, and uses that to her advantage. She's also very observant, and uses that as much as possible. Currently, she is also studying as much psychology, etc as she can get her hands on, so she can understand how to manipulate the people around her even more effectively.
